  1. Who do you think our most consistent and our least consistent player will be this season? I'm not talking about units as a whole. Rather, who are do you think will be the individual we can always rely on to make the right play? And who do you think we will have the most concerns about on the field?

Feel free to list offense, defense and ST if you would like to break it down that way.

  2. I really wouldn't mind seeing what Troy could do in Buffalo. However, I think it's just adding more of what we have at the QB position. They keep talking about Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith, but that doesn't mean much. Just look at what Matt Leinart has done in Arizona so far. Why don't they add him and have two Heisman winners under center to compete.

  3. "working his magic" was never meant to be taken as a substitute for "genius." I can't recall any current HCs or OCs in the league as deemed geniuses. Everyone seems to highlight his ability to get the most out of his players. Something that really hasn't been done on our team, especially, at QB. If he can do that, regardless of how many wins we get this year, I think it would be a lot easier to determine where our true weak spots really are... pick any of the positions we've discussed since the end of the regular season.

  4. Seems like everyone has given us low grades so far, and justly so since we've been, at best, one of the better bottom teams in the league on game day. This team should give us hope for the future, *if*, as the season progresses, our team grades go up. I'd rather see that than seeing inflated grades and a higher preseason ranking. Look at Miami a couple years back when they were 1-15 then jump to a "playoff caliber' team the following year. Who thought they'd go 10-6 the next year? With so many new factors affecting the team, I'd honestly be surprised if we didn't look sloppy and overwhelmed in the beginning of the season.

  5. So we know we have Lee Evans as the No. 1 receiver, but after that there's Hardy, Johnson, Parrish, Easley, and Jackson (... and a couple others that don't seem to have a chance to make the final roster). Gailey said he is going into the season with 5 receivers. Who do you think the odd one out will be? or will he keep 6? I can't honestly differentiate the five behind Evans since they all have had very limited action on the field.

  6. Tell ya what. Our offense will be, *hopefully*, better this year because... we'll be practicing everyday against a 3-4 defense that will be on the field come game day (not the scout team). Offensive plays should be better executed this time around since we have someone at the helm who can disguise them better and get more out of our QBs, whichever will be starting.

Why is it hard for us to win against our division? Well, according to DJ, "it's hard to win in the NFL." Before, we had no clue what we were doing against the 3-4.

  7. With contract issues involving pivotal players - OL, CB (their "best" player). Do you think this will carry out into the beginning of the season and make for a shaky start?

Letting Alan Faneca go for a young guy and now Mangold's issue, will we see how good a QB Sanchez really is? L.T. doesn't seem to have much left in the tank and with a potentially worse line, can Greene carry the load?

There could be a sophomore slump for a second year QB and a second year coach.

On another note, I'm interested to see how our new 3-4 will hold against the Pats too. Having, IMO, a very good secondary, I'd like to see if we can get to Brady (provided our NT comes through) and force him to throw INT after INT.

  8. If you remember when Nix was getting his feet wet in his new role he said he was going to build this team through the draft. Looking at the draft as building a new team (again this is coming from both Gailey and Nix), they were going to choose the best player available regardless of position. If they knew they could get a better DE/DT than a QB in the second and third rounds, doesn't it make sense to go that route? I think so. I suppose we'll have to wait until these guys get the pads on and start playing ball. I have a feeling they want the team to get younger, instead of bring in older FAs.

  9. One of the big problems we've faced the last couple of years is lack of development in young players because of injuries. With our current coaching staff, I feel as though those young players can develop into NFL caliber players provided that we do not have any serious injuries. Why do you think the last couple of seasons have been so stressful? We haven't been able to build any momentum because after each game more than one starter gets hurt and is out for the next couple of games, if not the season.

That is where strength and conditioning coaches come in. One of the best offseason moves was hiring the new coaches.

On a related note, it's good to hear our new draft picks talk about never giving enough or collectively feeling like they have more to give despite productive college seasons. Forgot who it was, but I remember someone talking to one of our picks on the phone and hearing weights moving in the background. A starting good effort for a season that is months away from beginning.

  10. I guess we have to see what happens in FA and the draft... Since we no longer have Owens or Reed, do you see Gailey consider giving Steve Johnson and Hardy a more serious look at being an impact players?

I do see Johnson, at this point, playing a bigger role on the team because of his size/strength and huge upside as far as receivers go. The two simply got buried on the depth chart last year. Both have the ability to really help this team provided the Bills can nail down the QB situation. They just haven't gotten the opportunities thus far.

  11. Practicing day in and day out against a 3-4 defense. Not a scout team, our starters regardless of how good or bad they may turn out to be.

Every other AFC East team plays with a 3-4. Why do you think our offense hasn't been able to beat their D? Because we've been practicing against our scout team! Not knowing how to approach beating a 3-4 has been our worst enemy for the last however many years. I see a jump in production come next year, provided that we have a QB that can execute.

  12. When hiring new coaches, Nix and Gailey will have to consider the epic amount of injuries sustained by this team last season. A very crucial, yet overlooked, staff position to fill will be the strength and conditioning coach. It is pretty clear that the number of injuries had a lot to do with the physical preparation of the players throughout the season. Next season could quickly turn into last, unless the proper coaches are hired to make sure these players are capable of handling the physical demands of their positions.

  13. Speaking of Cali boys, is Clausen any different?

I hope Gailey takes Jim Kelly's advice. You need to evaluate a QB that can play in Buffalo in our crappy weather conditions. It was clear that TE couldn't. Who knows, if they think Clausen can perform under harsh conditions then I see them taking him in RD 1. Half (-1) of the games are home, so we need someone that can play in Buffalo, before thinking about how they'd perform elsewhere.

  14. I won't be one to judge how he will do here, since he hasn't actually done anything besides put on the Bills pin on his suit. I've been around the blog threads for the last day or so about this, and it has been 99% negative. For however many people they interviewed, they chose Gailey. Now it's time to get on board and trust he'll have a plan. If things turn sour, then yes, I'll be lashing out with the rest of you, but for now I will remain hopeful that he'll put the team in the right direction.

Innocent until proven guilty. Isn't that how America work, right?

Something I really liked, something his predecessor did not have, was his tone and attitude with regard to the conference. That made me believe he won't take any BS or make excuses. He knows the situation, probably better than most, or else he wouldn't have taken the job.
