  1. absolutely. and it seemes we could use a good mix of both, so that's where i really hope that the people doing the interviews and offering the money are on the ball. with seemingly more holes to fill than money to fill them with, we really need to get value here. .
  2. i think even if a player is signed to be a back up, if he does it and does it well, he should be considered a solid player.
  3. depends on two things: 1. when are the average fa's going to come to grips with the fact that they are going to have to accept average contracts? (this would be where i would use the term "value") 2. what is your definition of solid? (in my opinion, a "solid" player is one that, while not being supremely talented, will give all he's got mentally and physically for the team)
  4. i think the plan overal is evaluate and rebuild. as far as the plan for free agency, the plan is probably to grab solid yet unspectacular vets to prvide depth and value to the team. i know that this is about as boring and obvious an opinion as was ever written...but...you asked.
  5. look at it this way... either buddy will get us a qb to be proud of (let's face it, he's due to hit on a pick really soon), or we will be the worst team in the league this year and have the first pick in the draft next year. so you can see that the glass is half full, but half full of what?
  6. i really want nothing to do with matt cassell. imo, fitz is a better qb than cassell and so it would be a step back. also, if he $#!! the bed in a bills uniform, then belichick would be laughing even that much harder at us. i hate the pats.
  7. there were people that wanted him outright cut after about 5 games. never underestimate the power of the kneejerk reaction of some fans.
  8. i agree, let the other teams fight and overpay for the services of some of these guys, then try to sone some quality players to get value for our free agent dollars.and let's not forget about saving a coupkle bucks for when teams cut down to 53. there's a long way to go before we even get a peek at what this team will look like.
  9. this is an automated response... this topic is being discussed in another epic thread that must soon be recussitated soon after the bills draft a qb and the board goes into meltdown mode and we need to find a new, new qb.
  10. while og is a need, i really think that the needs we have at qb, lb, wr, and qb far, far outweigh the need for a guard. if the og is taken ahead of any of these other positions then he really better be special, and i mean like holy $#!! i've never seen a human being destroy people like that!
  11. i'm kinda hoping that pettine will be using multiple personel groupings along with his multiple fronts. it would be nice to see the staff try to design different defences for different situations, moving some of these peices around to gain the most effective combinations.
  12. wow. that was very uncomfortable to watch. two grown, very successful men having a verbal catfight on television. and apparently the high road was nowhere to be found.
  13. i think rogers and easley are capeable, maybe even good. but mckelvin is elite as a return man. and i really don't think i want cj running back kicks, he gets winded enough as it is.
  14. i don't know. i respect the hell out of levitre, but there is talk that he is the no. 1 free agent lineman out there and is going to command 7-8 million a year. you have to take into account the fact that there are going to be other players coming to the end of their contracts over the next couple of seasons, and i remember buddy saying quite some time ago that there would come a point where it is just not realisticly possible to re-sign all of your good players. it kinda sucks, but i understand it.
  15. in theory you should be able to get a couple solid players for modest contracts after all the dust settles and the huge saleries are given out. i guess this is where that new analytics department comes in.
  16. and this is why if we select a db with the 8th pick in this upcoming draft i am going to go off on a tangent so disturbingly aweful that i will be sent straight to the looney bin. below average cb, but what...top 5 return man in the nfl?
  17. i'm going to go ahead and say a strong o-line with some good running backs, along with a coach that knows how to use them. but yes, a strong arm that can cut through the wind is nice also.
  18. i don't really see the bills going after another vet qb. the problem with fitz and his contract are that whether you keep him or cut him, he counts about 10 million towards the cap. in that regard i don't see them cutting fitz and using more cap space on another vet qb who probably is a lesser qb than the guy you just cut. but, i've been wrong plenty of times.
  19. i'm kinda the opposite. i feel very optimistic about this coming season. my expectations are not overly high, but i expect that i will enjoy seeing what the coaches are trying to establish and hopefully watching these players buy into the systems and play real hard. i expect growing pains (especially if there is a rookie qb and a lot of fresh new faces in general) but i also expect some nice moments from cj, freddy, mario, jairus, stevie...
  20. i was really intrigued with him last year. and in his limited touches i really couldn't get a handle on him as a player. seems like he some good and some bad plays mixed in there. so i guess i'll be intrigued by this player going into this season as well.
  21. seems to me that the only person on the team jim kelly could beat in a foot race was fred smerlas, and he did ok for himself. but the game, and the qb position have changed a bit since then.
  22. yeah, i acknowledge the greatness, but because of this there may not be any other player i dislike more in the nfl. well, this and the fact that he has rubbed our collective noses in dog**** for the past decade.
