It was the smart move. Baseball is WAYYYY more competitive, with the best players usually NOT being U.S. citizens. As a first overall NFL pick, he would have had to pull a Ryan Leaf to not make guaranteed bank. It would have taken him years to even be considered to be bumped up to the major leagues in baseball.
2004 was it. That's almost 20 years. Even if they drafted a 16-year-old then, it's unlikely that he'd still be playing professional baseball (or any other sport).
