Quote from Josh highlighting the Bills' flawed thinking...
Gugny replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
In all seriousness, I somewhat agree with Josh and Beane. I get - and agree - with what you're saying, as far as not wanting to copy the Chiefs, per se, because like you said - we'll always be behind if that's the plan. But I'm interpreting this a little differently. I think it's more of: we need a better O-line; we need better pass catching options; we need better coaching. That's really what most teams need. Those are also all areas in which Kansas City is better than Buffalo. That's just my take, anyway. Oh ... one more thing ... not quitting midway through the first quarter of a playoff game would be a nice enhancement, too.- 99 replies

Extended Warranties - Worthwhile, Worthless or Worth Considering?

If you actually spent upwards of $8000 for a refrigerator, then you're a bigger sucker than anyone who buys an extended warranty. -

When I think of David Wright and the Hall of Fame, my initial thought is that he doesn't stand out as Cooperstown material. However ... as you mentioned, the HOF has definitely become watered down (much to my dismay) and I did come across this short, related piece ... https://www.prosportsfanatics.com/mlb/david-wrights-case-for-the-hall-of-fame Compared to other third basemen’s statistics currently in the Baseball Hall of Fame, Wright's career statistics are eye-opening. Wright’s career .296 batting average is better than current Hall of Famers such as Mike Mike Schmidt, Ron Santo, Jimmy Collins, and Eddie Matthews. Wright also had 242 career home runs, 124 more than Wade Boggs, who only had 118. The seven-time All-Star also finished with more home runs than other Hall of Fame members such as Freddie Lindstrom and Paul Molitor. According to Baseball-Reference, Wright ranks 24th among the Third Base JAWS Leaders. That is a higher ranking than six current third basemen in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He might just make it. He finished at .296 lifetime with 970 RBI. Had he finished at .300 with 1000 RBI, I'd say he'd be a definite. But that will likely be close enough. I'd love to see it. EDIT: I looked at his stats a little more closely and was reminded of the 2009 season, where his power took a significant dip, thanks to the opening of Citi Field. He had been averaging about 30 HRs and over 100 RBI per season leading up to the 2009 season. In 144 games, he hit 10 HR and had 72 RBI. He hit for average, of course, but that season is what stands out the most as the one that kept him from the 1000 career RBI mark. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wrighda03.shtml

I guess it must be difficult being a lying, cheating, stealing, selfish, narcissistic a-hole with a tiny penis that a cheerleader shared with the world. -
LMAO!!! I can tell you with certainty that she is MUCH smarter than I am!

I don’t know … small venue, so the $68 seats might be well worth it to a Who/Roger fan. This brings up another topic that kinda frosts my ass: it seems that anyone can book an arena tour these days. In another thread, I mentioned that the Goo Goo Dolls are on an arena tour. Are you kidding me? I’ve already made up my mind that my arena concert days are over. Last arena show I went to was Foo Fighters at MSG in 2021. I had a great time, but I spent most of the night watching a screen. Never again … not for today’s prices. It was nice when bands would be post-prime and book gigs at 3,000 seat venues. I hope those days come back.

Yeah, that is friggin' nuts. I saw Cheap Trick last summer when they opened up for Rod Stewart. I was pleasantly surprised at how great they sounded; particularly Robin Zander's voice. They were great. We had lawn seats, so it wasn't that expensive - they (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) had a special through which we got tickets for $25/each. I hate to sound like the old guy yelling at clouds, but back in the 80s and even into the early 90s, lawn seats were a standard price of $9 for all of their concerts. Now, the normal lawn seat goes for at least $50 which I refuse to pay. Cheap Trick was great ... but not $200 great.

You need to go directly to the pot shop. Get yourself some nice indica bud. And chill the f*ck out.

I said I'd be happy if either Daboll or Shanahan won it. I am happy for Daboll. I think Shanahan deserved it more, but that takes nothing at all away from the job Daboll did. He certainly earned it.

How much does sports success & failure affect your life?
Gugny replied to Success's topic in Off the Wall
I think this loss to the Bengals disappointed me more than it upset me/pissed me off. They quit. I know that might not be a popular opinion, but it's how I feel. It's nothing I dwell on, or really even think about at this point. BUT ... I will say that I've never been less-interested in a Super Bowl Sunday than I am today, just a couple days from the game. Normally, I've got a menu all set and I'm excited about shopping for all of the food and a day full of cooking leading to an evening full of eating and drinking. I have absolutely zero plans. Not even any ideas for food. I don't even know who the halftime entertainment is. All I know is that I'm rooting for the Eagles, but I'm not even looking forward to watching. I do think that the way the Bills' season ended has a lot to do with it.
