  1. No way an OT better than Dion falls to 27. Even if it happened, it's still a draft pick, and you can't bank on that player outperforming a very solid vet. I would much rather see them take a G at 27 - even if it's a T who is then converted to G.
  2. I think if you really looked at every team's drafting over the years, which would be incredibly tedious, you would find that the Bills are probably not much different from everyone else. Every team misses more than they hit, and a great many top QB prospects never pan out. Late round Pro-bowlers are rare everywhere. The problem is that Bills fans look at the aggregated draft successes of all 31 other teams combined, and compare it to the Bills - without any real knowledge of other teams' draft failures, which are many.
  3. Probably can't afford him, but it sure would be nice. That's a rare talent.
  4. I have always wondered what Edmunds could do with a different role in a different scheme. Leslie Fraser's defense requires him to patrol the backfield, which means he is going to be pursuing plays rather than disrupting them. The argument is that his very presence shuts off the middle of the field to the opposing offense. It is very, very difficult to judge if this is true or not, if he is exceptional in this regard, and if he could be more impactful in a more aggressive role. I'm willing to let McDermott and Beane figure it out, but it does seem telling that they would let such a high draft pick and long-time QB of the defense just walk.
  5. Tom Brady was arguably the best QB sneaker of all time. It doesn't take a muscle-bound QB, just a really good OL.
  6. At one point she was pulling the mic down from her face, but words were still being sung. Blatant lip synching, and it was as if she wanted the TV audience to know it. That's when I knew she was just phoning it in.
  7. He's going to get overpaid somewhere, and I really doubt it's here.
  8. I wonder if the Bills would be able to keep Poyer at $8.5M per year for two more years, if that's all it took. I'm guessing it's still too many dollars for their cap situation, even if it is good value.
  9. No, then the richest teams would be the only ones with top QBs, and small-market teams that struggle to meet cap-level payroll already would never have a shot. I could see a 'max contract' type of scenario working, though. Good point about the NFLPA, especially considering this negatively impacts the vast majority of players. They should be doing something to address this.
  10. I think the league just prefers to be lenient about late snaps. Fewer penalties keeps things moving, and I think it also helps mitigate an aspect of home field advantage (crowd noise) that borders on unfair.
  11. I don't know where everyone got off saying he would be the next Aaron Donald, just because they're about the same size. Kind of like when Aaron Maybin was supposed to grow into the next Jevon Kearse. Some guys are just freaks of nature. I don't think Ed is one of them.
  12. Best we can hope for is a that a couple of quality vet FAs sign on (ala Da'Quan Jones), they draft well, and that a few young guys mature into better players. Good news is that they are a proven winner with a strong team culture and a superstar QB under contract. That will at least give them a puncher's chance for said quality FAs. Other good news is that some of the biggest holes to fill are among the most affordable (G, RB, S, WR2/3). One of Beane's most baller of strategies was to lock up the marquis positions longer-term (QB, WR1, CB1, Edge, LT).
  13. I don't think the current Bills O line is up to the task of boosting the run/screen game.
  14. Funny that he goes on and on about the lack of talent on Bills' roster, then is suggesting the coaches should maybe be let go in the same segment. A team with no talent doesn't go 13-3 with bad coaching, and vice versa. Earlier in the season, the narrative was very much that the Bills were the most complete team in football. I really think this is a lot of stupid hot takes based solely on yesterday's drubbing.
  15. Very disheartening after all the investment in the DL this offseason. I honestly thought the depth players were better than this, but we just saw what happens when all the grown men on the D line are out. Rousseau/Oliver/Basham/Epenesa - all young guys who don't seem to have 'it'. Will any of these high draft picks ever be more than a solid rotational player? We confirmed tonight that it was Miller/Jones/Phillips carrying the line all year.
  16. I don't think a different OC or DC or head coach would have made any difference. The Bengals dominated every facet of that game. The Bills players couldn't run, catch, tackle, penetrate, cover, block, get open, nothing. They just stunk.
  17. I'm pretty much 50-50 on this one; two great teams with stud QBs on long winning streaks - it is truly anyone's game. Can't wait to see it unfold!
  18. The Niners remind me of the 'Skins in SB26. They came out of nowhere with an unsung quarterback to become a dominant team, for just that one year. Kinda gives me the willies.
  19. If we're basing next week's expected result on style points, you could easily argue that the Bengals did not score very many against Baltimore last night. They needed a fluke big-man scoop-and-score to beat a backup QB. I think the Bills had a much better game overall. Whatever, round one is over, round 2 is a clean slate for all.
  20. Why not throw another bomb
  21. It helps when the QB in question is willing to take the most team-friendly deal the NFLPA will allow (which is still a boatload of money). I think that's pretty much what Josh did. He could have easily demanded to be the highest paid QB in the league, but he didn't. It seems like there are always about 7-8 QBs that qualify for that scenario, by virtue of being more or less irreplaceable. But even a 'team friendly' stud QB contract is going to be a crippler for some teams.
  22. I think it's still too early to tell. He hasn't played a whole lot, mostly because he's in a really deep position group.
  23. And it's not like McDermott only overcame incredible adversity - his team also kicked a bunch of arse all season long, which to me says he's doubly qualified for COY. I also would be perfectly happy to see him share it with Taylor, because you could say all the same things about him as well.
  24. Call it a draw and move on. I know the Bills were losing on the scoreboard and, by all accounts, on the field as well. But you can't call a game after less than one quarter, and I don't see how they are going to fit this game in with only one week left in the regular season. One could argue that the Bengals suffer more from a tie being called, but one could also argue that it's not Buffalo's fault the Bengals came into week 17 a game behind them in the conference race. It's also true that Cincy still clinches their division with a tie, so at least they have that going for them. Which is nice.
