  1. I beg to differ. Bowl games can test a QB against good competition in a pressure situation. They definitely do matter. And what good young QB has Buffalo had a chance to "destroy". None of the QB's the Bills have drafted or signed have done anything anywhere else, so that tells me they just weren't very good.
  2. Lovie would have been a decent choice, no doubt about it. However there were reasons he was fired in Chicago. I read that he had issues with in game clock management and also is a "player's" coach, running soft camps. I think he probably would have done OK with the Bills, but I like the Marrone hire. He is an up and coming coach and not only the Bills were after him. SD, Cleveland and Philly were also interested. Good for the Bills for getting him first.
  3. This is not a "college coach". Look at his resume. This is an NFL guy that went back to college to get some HC experience. His goal was to return to the NFL as a HC. I believe this will prove to be a solid hire.
  4. This "chump" has real NFL coaching experience. How much does Chip Kelly have? I like the fact that he went back to college to get some HC experience with the goal of returning to the NFL as a HC. All coaches come with risk. It is all relative and a matter of opinion until they actually start coaching in games. Personally I believe it was a good hire. If we didn't hire him, Cleveland or SD would have.
  5. I agree 100%. Not a fan of the HC being overly involved in calling the plays either on offense or defense. He should listen to the coordinators in developing game plans and provide input, but empower them to do their jobs.
  6. Would love to see Lovie Smith, Marrone or Mccoy hired. Please get one of these guys, get a staff in place and let's start planning for the draft.
  7. I hope the Browns thing is true. Never wanted Kelly and not convinced he can succeed in the NFL. I am onboard with Lovie Smith or one of the other candidates with NFL experience.
  8. K-State plays in the Big 12. Nuff said.
  9. I agree with you based on the limited exposure that I have seen of him in interviews. He just rubs me the wrong way. No thanks to Kelly.
  10. Wouldn't mind McCoy as HC, but I don't believe either one of these guys is the answer at QB. I just looked at possible FA QB's and it looks like maybe the best available may be Jason Campbell. We need to draft a QB and maybe let him start from day one. It seems to have worked for lots of other teams in the past couple of months. I still like Tyler Wilson out of Arkansas and I believe he could start from day one, possibly with Campbell in reserve.
  11. I don't want Chip Kelly. I echo the concerns of many about his lack of coaching experience in the NFL. Not sure that his spread offense would be successful at the pro level. It is intriguing, but it scares me.
  12. I was in Alaska in the Army watching at home. What a great game. A couple of things that struck me watching it again. One was the depth of that roster. They did the whole thing with Kelly, Thurman and Bennet on the bench. They had so many playmakers on both sides of the ball it was amazing. What a talented group of players that was.
  13. Ridiculous post. You read way too much into what he said. He was just being respectful of some former colleagues. If they do hire one of them it will be after the interview process is complete. I believe they are still early in the process and however it plays out, Whaley's statements were nothing but being polite.
  14. I would be okay with either of these guys as long as they bring in a strong DC. Both are good OC's, but we have got to develop that defense into a winner.
  15. So who do you think should be running the show? Any ideas of just feel like complaining.
  16. I'm tired of all the bitching and whining on this board about Brandon moving up. From what I can see, he has paid his dues and is perfectly qualified for this position. I like his trying to incorporate analytics into the methodology at OBD, I believe that Whaley will be the GM before too long and I also believe that is a good move. There are a number of people on this board who just complain about everything with no possible answers of their own. I believe you will see changes at OBD and they will be for the better. I'm on board with this move.
  17. Possibly the silliest post I have seen here. This team with it's current roster, with better coaching would have made the playoffs this year. Better coaches would have realized that Fitz was not the answer long ago and gotten a better QB. Better coaches would have made better decisions that make the difference in winning and losing close games. This team lost winnable games this year and that comes down to coaching.
  18. I like Chan, but I think his time has passed. He doesn't seem to be able to adapt to changes that defenses make to his game plan during the game and that makes him ill suited to be even an OC. He seems to be a good man and a nice guy, but maybe he needs to retire from football.
  19. This is a great post. Good to see some reason on this board. To some, it won't matter what the Bills do, it won't be good enough. I think yesterday was a step in the right direction in getting things back on track. Let's see how it plays out before throwing up our hands in despair. Change was needed and change is happening, so I for one choose to be optimistic. If the next hire doesn't work out, well then we are no worse off than we have been for the past 13 years, but I am hoping they hit on the right guy this time around.
  20. Those stats don't tell the whole story. Moorman may have a higher net because he doesn't pin the ball inside the 20. Taking a short punt, but leaving it inside the 20 doesn't look as good statistically, but it helps the defense more.
  21. Based on what? Smith won three division titles with the Bears, reached the Super Bowl and was the NFL’s coach of the year for the 2005 season. He has a winning record in 9 years as a head coach (91-63). In what Universe does that add up to being a loser?
  22. LOL, they haven't even hired anyone yet. Let's see who else they interview and maybe even who they hire before we start the bitching, huh?
  23. Not sure how this dynamic will play out, but I'm glad that they kept Whaley. He would have been at least considered for one of the other vacant GM positions. I don't have a problem with him, Nix and Brandon conducting the search for a new HC. What this means is that they won't have to go back to Ralph for approval. I believe Whaley will have more say than Nix on the HC since he will have to live with him after the transition. Sounds as if Nix will get to weigh in, but won't have final say.
