  1. Met Bruce Smith at the Dallas airport. He was running and I called out "Hey Bruce!" He looked back and said "Have you seen Thurman Thomas?" Apparently he was supposed to meet him there. Made me laugh.
  2. I grew up in Hornell and my sister went to Buff State. She brought my home a team poster that first year "60 and I was hooked. Watched every game as a kid and young adult until I joined the Army in '77. As soon as I saw NFL Sunday ticket, I bought DirecTV at the PX so I could get every game even though I was stationed in Oklahoma. I live in Newfoundland now and I still get Sunday ticket so I can watch every game. As for when I knew, I guess I always knew.
  3. While I agree that the Bills will have lots of question marks, assuming a 2 out of 10 degree of difficulty is probably a bit optimistic from the Baltimore side. They too have a number of question marks, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. I believe that the Bills will be competitive, although predictions on how many games they will win are almost impossible at this point. I would at least give them half a chance to win.
  4. The sky is falling. The sky is falling.
  5. It's always about the money. Byrd wants more money, plain and simple and Levitre went to the highest bidder. That bidder was Tennessee and I don't exactly see them winning it all. Byrd will get what the Bills feel he's worth, or he'll have to go somewhere else, but not this year, because nobody signed him to an offer sheet. He'll either have to sign his franchise offer or sit out and not get paid at all. My guess is that he will sign.
  6. All the best to Jim and family. We are all human and I will be praying for your recovery.
  7. The very fact that Congress is involved is reason enough to keep the name. Congress has way bigger problems to solve than the name of a sports team. If the Skins want to voluntarily change the name, then great, but not because Congress is bullying them into it.
  8. Having good special teams is not a reflection solely on the punter. We obviously disagree about Moorman, but that's okay, that's what discussion boards are all about. Nothing personal, but I was glad to see him go.
  9. Total career punting yardage does not make for a great punter. Many times Moorman outkicked his coverage which makes for great individual stats, but puts his team at a disadvantage. I watched every game that Moorman played and I stick by my opinion of him. He would not know how to directionally punt or drop one inside the 10 if his life depended on it. He should have been cut at least three years before he actually was.
  10. My guess is that nobody on those teams was satisfied with anything. They played hard and as far as him being one of the best players, that may be your opinion, but that doesn't make it fact. He repeatedly kicked the ball out of the end zone from close in and could not kick it out of bounds inside the ten to save his life. He was one of the reasons the team didn't win and complaining about that after the fact is an insult to his team mates. There was absolutely zero to be gained by making that statement. Sounds like sour grapes from a guy that got cut to me. Moorman was ranked 22 or 23 last year depending on the system used. Here are some observations that I found to be spot on. Inside the 20 2 Just 20 of his 72 punts landed inside the red zone. Inside the 10 2 Tied for third worst with just four punts landing inside the 10-yard line. Maybe you believe that 22 or 23 out of 32 makes for a good punter, but not me. Moorman was definitely part of the problem.
  11. Maybe because he just threw his past team mates under the bus. Those guys he played with were working hard and doing their best. No need for this comment. Just go out and compete. Oh yeah, and maybe if Moorman could have figured out how to execute the coffin corner kick, his defense would have had a better chance.
  12. I moved to Newfoundland almost 10 years ago and at first I missed ESPN. Sister station TSN is not the same as all they talk about is hockey, almost non-stop almost year round. After having lived here awhile and receiving some of the ESPN programming on TSN, I must say that I don't miss it in the least. In fact I don't watch TSN highlight shows either. I get my sports news from the internet, what I want, when I want it.
  13. I prefer the term misguided. No question that this team is better talent wise than the team that Nix inherited. Anyone who takes a look at today's roster compared to when Nix took over can see that.
  14. Who is buried in Grant's Tomb?
  15. Jim Kelly, Jack Kemp, O.J., Bruce Smith
  16. The difference for me in seeing the game live is being able to watch the play develop, because you can see the whole field. Also the speed of the game. It is surprisingly fast when you see it in person. Watching on TV is OK if you can't get to the game, but definitely not the same.
  17. So far offbase, I don't even know where to begin. If you look at the losses and compare them to the additions, it is strikingly clear that this team got faster and more athletic this offseason. Barnett wasn't lost, he was cut. And kickers are not game changers? They make a huge difference in field position, which impacts every single game. And they can win or lose a game with a single kick. The players added fit the new schemes, both offensively and defensively. And for the record, in four seasons, Levitre never made the Pro Bowl. Guards are a dime a dozen and he wasn't worth the money. How this new athleticism and speed translate to wins and losses remains to be seen, but this team definitely is more talented than the one that ended the season.
  18. LOL sorry. I think you may have a few cousins on the board though.
  19. Most of these guys have not clue. The guys that I respect like Gil Brandt and Mike Mayock loved the pick. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have zero credibility as they base their draft grades on whether or not teams picked guys where they had them rated. So if a team's scouting department and front office disagree with these two "experts" then they get a poor grade. Look at these guys track records. It is a wonder anyone still listens to them or reads what they have to say.
  20. Yes, as a matter of fact, I love Mr. Wilson. The team that he brought to Western NY when I was a boy has brought me many years of entertainment. If you hate him and the Bills so much, why not find another team. I am a fan and I love this team. My point, which you obviously completely missed, is that the ESPN power rankings, particularly at this stage mean absolutely nothing. Hence "Might as well pull the names out of a hat". Perhaps that is too complex for you to comprehend.
  21. Absolutely meaningless. Nobody has played a single down yet. Ranking teams at this point in the off season is an exercise in futility. And besides, it came from ESPN. They have absolutely zero credibility. Might as well draw team's names from a hat. I went to the rank 'em yourself part and put the Bills at #1. My pick means as much as theirs.
  22. I was going to, but it looks like lots of people have explained it to you quite well already. Bad idea. Period.
