New overtime rules are awful. Great article attached
xsoldier54 replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still don't like it. I had a hard time explaining it to one of my friends and it seems that even I got it wrong. Reinforces my point that it is confusing. I don't recall anyone complaining about the old rule. Sudden death creates a sense of urgency right from the get go. This way one team can just settle for trying to hold the other team from scoring a touchdown, whereas before they had to be more on top of their game defensively. Don't like it at all. -

The rule is confusing and stupid. If the team that wins the coin toss scores a touchdown, they win, if they don't score and the second team kicks a field goal, the first team still gets the ball back. It's stupid. Sudden death works best. -
The Rebuilding Year Progress Thread

Concur with the OP, 8-8 would be nice, but 7-9 more likely. Too bad about EJ getting hurt, because I think it could have been better. Either way, I like the direction we are headed. -
Doug, we still can't wear our stuff

I never stopped wearing my gear and I was never ashamed. I am and will always be a proud Bills fan. -
You almost had me until that last part. No way FSU beats Alabama.

As a Buffalo Bills Club Seat Holder, we would like to invite you for a position on the inaugural Fan Advisory Board. As a board member, you will be invited to attend monthly meetings with Front Office executives of the Buffalo Bills to share your feedback, thoughts and ideas regarding the organization’s off-the-field practices. Your participation will be very valuable as the team continues their goal to make Bills games at Ralph Wilson Stadium fun and safe for fans of all ages. I told him he should do it even though he lives two hours from the Ralph. It would be quite and honor and he would represent us well.

The offense may be in trouble - remainder of 2013 and 2014
xsoldier54 replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely agree. Way too many "EJ is a bust" threads. He has not played enough to evaluate, but I have seen some things in him that are encouraging. I say give him time. He played poorly against Pittsburgh, but I believe the instability to run the football put a lot of pressure on him last week. CJ tried to bounce everything outside and that doesn't work against defenses that are gap disciplined like Pittsburgh and the Jets. They need to get him to stay inside more and then when he gets to the second level he can break off a big one. His tendency to bounce outside puts the O in too many second and long and third and long situations. EJ needs to gain experience and you get that by playing in games. Every one that he plays in makes him better IMO. -
Sloppy Thursday Night Football...Solution?
xsoldier54 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because of the Thursday night games we also do not have the Saturday games during December that we used to have. I like those Saturday afternon games in December. -
He also appeared to run the wrong route and could have cost the Bills a TD against Pittsburgh.

NFL caliber throws? Would you like to quantify that for me please? Exactly what constitutes an "NFL Caliber Throw". Seems rather subjective to me. So was the TD pass to win the game that EJ threw an "NFL Caliber" throw? Geno Smith from what I have seen is very inconsistent, just like EJ. They both play like rookies, but the jury is still out on which one will be the better NFL QB. EJ has played five games, four and a half really. If you think that you can predict how good a QB will be with that small of a sample size, you are either a fool or an idiot. Either way you are wrong in thinking that. EJ has not played enough to evaluate how good he will be. Time will tell, but I for one have seen enough to remain encouraged by what I have seen.

Faulty premise. Marrone is the HC. Responsibility and accountability has to start with him. You are reading too much into what he said. He was right on the money with his statement.
-
I believe that you have a faulty premise. This is not an "experiment". EJ Manuel is the starting QB of the Buffalo Bills and will be for the foreseeable future. He is a rookie and will have bad games like yesterday. He is also capable of leading a fourth quarter comeback like he did earlier this season. I understand that patience is in short supply on this forum, but I find the topic of this thread absolutely ridiculous.

I have stated many times that I have been a Bills fan since that first year of 1960. My sister went to Buff State and brought me home a poster of that first team. I have been a fan ever since. Sure watching them lose is no fun, but they are still and always will be my team. Every week I hope for the best and am disappointed when they lose. In the end though, I know I'll be back the next week hoping for the best again. Go Bills.
-
I know this is heresy, but at the end of the day, it's only a football game. I have been a Bills fan since the very beginning in 1960. I have lived and died with them every year. At this point in my life it is merely Sunday afternoon entertainment. If they win, great. If they lose, well, I've seen that before. I will be back next week and every week and hope for the best. Yesterday was abysmal, but guess what? It's over, so on to next week.

Couldn't agree more. I would like nothing more than for this team to be a playoff team, but simply put, they just aren't there yet. I have, however, seen enough good things to remain encouraged. Did they play poorly yesterday? Absolutely. Am I giving up on anyone, player or coach? Not yet. Too early to tell where Marrone and staff will take us and too early to tell how good EJ will be. Frustrating to watch no doubt, but not the end of the world, just a poorly played football game.
-
This team was horrible yesterday, no doubt about it. I am as disgusted and discouraged as the next guy. I agree with some of what the OP said, particularly with regard to Graham. I am however willing to withhold judgement on the coaching staff until after the season. Not liking what I saw yesterday for sure. They were flat, particularly on offense, but I don't believe they are as bad as they looked yesterday. I've been watching football a long time and every team has games like yesterday every single season. Even in the 4 Super Bowl years, they played stinkers like yesterday. You have to look at the whole body of work and so far I have seen enough good things to stay encouraged. I will withhold judgement on EJ, Pettine and Hacket and Marrone until after the season.

Official Second Half Thread: Week 10, Bills at Steelers
xsoldier54 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills getting exposed in all facets of the game today. No offense, special teams, poor QB play, no running game. Worst game of the game the season and there is not even a close second. Steelers gave them every opportunity to win in the first half and they couldn't take advantage. Second half they have been completely dominated. -

Explain. The D jumped offsides, how was that attributed to the Steelers coaching? This is just a bad football team right now, particularly on offense. -

Like watching a replay of the past few weeks. Lots of opportunities, no success. Let the opponent hang around until they put you away. -
I absolutely LOVE Doug Marrone

Pettine works for Marrone. Marrone hired him. Marrone gets the credit. -
Every single ESPN expert is picking PIT
xsoldier54 replied to KikO M G's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And why wouldn't they? Until this team can start being more consistent and minimize the turnovers, they should not be picked to beat almost anyone. -
Geno has stayed healthy as well. If EJ hadn't been hurt, we probably beat Cincinnati and who knows what our record would be now.
