Dear Mr. Brandon--the Toronto series must go
xsoldier54 replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Calling BS on this one. Toronto fans are hockey fans and they hate Buffalo. It wouldn't make any difference if the Bills were undefeated, they would still root against them because they are !@#$s. -

Exactly where in my statement did you read this? What I said was in this instance, I don't believe the Falcons rally in the cold and rain and wipe out a 14 point deficit if the game is played in Buffalo in December. That is my opinion and I am not alone. If you can't understand that playing a dome team in a dome in December gives them a decided advantage, particularly when the majority of the crowd is rooting against the "home" team then again it is pointless to argue with you. -

When the Bills play at home in December, they absolutely have an advantage. If you can't see that, then this argument is pointless.. I'm not talking about selling out games this year BTW, I'm talking about in the Super Bowl and playoff years, we had no problem selling out home games in December. As for it being a neutral site, I completely disagree with your premise. Playing in Toronto is a hostile environment for the Bills. The fans in Toronto do not want these games and those that go do so to make things miserable for the Bills. The hockey rivalry carries over and the fans will root for anyone but Buffalo. The series is a disaster and needs to be done away with. If fans in Toronto want an NFL team, then let them get their own. And again, even if the Falcons game had not sold out in Buffalo the atmosphere would have been absolutely 100% better than the abomination that is playing a game in Toronto. And yes, it does have something to do with the outcome. The Atlanta Falcons, down 14-0 at the Ralph in December absolutely would not have come back and won that game. Playing a dome team in a dome when you can play them outside in the cold is just plain stupid. -

When the team was winning they had no problem selling out November and December games. Nobody wants to freeze their ass of to watch a team that has no chance of making the playoffs. As for the Toronto series, even a non sellout crowd at the Ralph beats the abomination that is a game in Toronto. The atmospere at the Ralph even for a non sellout is absolutely 100% better than playing in Canada. Nope. At least not for me. My disappointment in the Bills record is a completely different subject than playing a home game in a hostile environment. And make no mistake, Toronto is not a "neutral" site. The people there don't want these games any more than we do and they voice their opinion by rooting for the visiting team. Silly to give away a home game in December. -
Calling BS on this one. Every team holds, every team blocks in the back. every team commits PI. To not have any called is ludicrous.
-
Because it's just a game as someone else has said. It is Sunday afternoon entertaining and if nothing else, the Bills make for great theater. I hate that they lose as much as anyone, but I ain't gonna quit watching.
-
You're right. Those two calls in the late fourth quarter had nothing to do with the Falcons tieing the game.
-
And yet the fact remains that not a single penalty was called on NE the entire game. Just not plausible. No NFL team goes an entire game without committing penalties. The refs just didn't call any against NE and they rarely do.
-
I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, but the two calls at the end of regulation were at best questionable. The first one on Aaron Williams for illegal contact when he was nowhere near the play and the second one although justifiable was still questionable in that situation. They both fell down and the grabbing of the jersey had nothing to do with it. There were a few more during the course of the game that come to mind as well, particularly in the first half that allowed Atlanta to stay close. I don't know if the games are fixed or not, but I have read a couple of books on the subject and with the millions of dollars that are bet on the games each week, both legally and illegally, it certainly isn't out of the question. And I don't believe it is the league that is doing the fixing btw.

Remain Calm, all is not as lost as it appears
xsoldier54 replied to HopefulFuture's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see nothing in this team to draw hope from. Same stupid mistakes, same snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Nothing has changed. I see absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel until they start winning football games. That is the only thing that counts in the NFL and this team still can't do it. -
Are you crazy? Excellent game played? They went up by two scores early and the defense let Atlanta right back in the game. They could have won the game at the end of regulation and in overtime, but they fumbled away any chance for a win. Excellent game played? Not by a longshot. It was the same Bills team making the same stupid mistakes that we have been watching for years. I see no reason to be optimistic. This team has given me no reason to feel that way. They are still losing games that they should win in the same way that they have been for years. I can not share your optimism until they start winning games that they should win instead of finding ways to lose them.
-
I applaud your optimism, but after yesterday, I see no light at the end of the tunnel. The Bills will never win a game like that. They will be the ones missing the field goal.
-
I applaud the OP for taking anything positive from this loss. I could find nothing. Another gut wrenching defeat in a game that was winnable. Although I agree with most of the OP, I can't agree on EJ. He played well enough to help his team win today. It was mistakes by other people that cost this team the win. There is an inexcusable loss thread and I couldn't agree more. Shoulda woulda coulda.... getting so tired of that. This was a new low point for me. I have been a fan for fifty years and usually can be rational after a loss, but this one got to me. I have lost all hope and I see no light at the end of the tunnel. Don't get me wrong, I 'm not one of those guys that says "I'm done with this team." I know that I'm not and I know I'll be back next week. Just very disheartened and have no hope of the Bills ever being a good football team again.

Well said by the OP. Toronto hates the Bills. Putting them in a hostile environment in what is supposed to be a home game gives every advantage to the visiting team. And forget the fact that instead of playing a dome team outside in the weather in December you put them right in their comfort zone. Terrible all the way around. There is no redeeming feature to this Toronto series. I am not usually a conspiracy theorist, but after yesterday's debacle, it occurred to me that maybe the league is trying to alenate the fan base in Buffalo, so that they can move the team without so much uproar. I never believed this before, but after yesterday, it seemed like a very real possibility. -
It would have been worse. If you think the turf was slippery with it closed, just let it get frozen. Would have been unplayable.
-
Make no mistake. It was not coaching that lost that game yesterday. Blaming Marrone is just ignorant of the facts. He didn't drop those two passes. If either one of those guys don't fumble, Buffalo wins the game. And don't even mention the officiating. It was horrible again all day long. These are not excuses, they are facts. Marrone is a good coach, who eventually will build a winner, but guys like Stevie Johnson and Chandler have got to go. This is not the first time either of them has made plays like this. Hold them accountable and get rid of them both.
-
How was this loss even remotely EJ Manuel's fault. He threw two perfect passes in clutch situations that could have set the Bills up for a win and both times his recievers coughed it up. I don't get how anyone could blame EJ for this loss.

Meanwhile, the Pats played another game today with zero penalties. Hmmmmmm.

I can't even believe what I just witnessed. Had the game won three times in the last minute and in overtime and still managed to find a way to lose. I am speechless. They didn't deserve to win and I am getting tired of watching them piss away winnable games. -
They need to put the entire team on IR. Seems that they all have no heart. Absolutely sickening display.

Typical Bills football. Let a bad team hang around so they can beat us at the end. Every week is like freakin groundhogs day. -

Jimmy Johnson didn't even know the game was being played in Toronto. He said before the game "Well it's cold up in Buffalo and Atlanta's a dome team, I give the advantage to Buffalo." Michael Strahan had to tell him it was being played in Toronto. He doesn't have a clue. -
Tim McCarver is a tool. And the wave was never cool. Leave it to a Bills fan to put a negative spin on one of the greatest games in team history. Just for the record, you do know that Houston was doing it's best to stop the Bills and couldn't right? It was a great win and a fantastic performance by both the offense and defense in the second half.

New overtime rules are awful. Great article attached

I'm not the only one that finds it confusing. I have heard many others say the same thing and as for watching a movie, I have no trouble following plots thank you very much. It is a stupid rule. It still doesn't ensure that both teams get at least one possession, so why bother? Even your explanation was so long winded that it proves my point. Dumb rule. Sudden death from the get go was much more exciting and entertaining.
