A bunch of good questions by Sullivan in there.... hmmm I could either write 10 more paragraphs or nothing more. Given how disheartening this all is I'll go with the 'nothing more'

I agree completely... the bottom line with Lynch was that he was either going in trade or going for nothing a year later. In either case the Bills were going to lose him before they got much better, so he wasn't part of the solution. It simply comes down to when is the best place to get the most value... draft time, end of preseason or in-season injuries. In-season seems to be the time when its most likely to find the most desperation for someone to acquire a proven player. So that's now. Its always tough trading for draft picks, because teams just value them too much, plus when you look at when a player was drafted it seems like your getting ripped off. Clearly nobody was ready to give a 3 for him. If the Packers were interested, they clearly will be drafting near the end of each round, so it seems the 4th is the best that can be done. They got another pick thrown in, which is not too bad. Seattle is a team looking to get better over the longer run, so its a good deal for them, but they weren't going to give away the store for him.

Isn't the fundamental point with Lynch that his contract is up after this year and there's 0.00% chance that he resigns with the Bills. Isn't this the same as when bad teams trade players at the trading deadline in Hockey and Baseball?? Get something/anything for somebody that you'll otherwise lose and get nothing for 2 months later. The only measure of any players value now is who will be a stud on this team two seasons out... In my mind Lynch, Jackson, Evans, Stroud, Whitner, McGee are all available... everyone except Kelsay (gag!). Any player we're keeping should have less than 3 years in the league and under contract for at least the next two seasons.

For all the critics of any related to Trent Edwards and how he was handled, this article puts it in the right perspective Bob DiCesare Buff News Opinion ... says it all and its the right sequence of events.

Do we bench Cornell Green this week?

What position was Urbick playing, did they have him at RT? -
Just imagine how POed we would be if Schobel hadn't retired and this was happening on both sides of the field... we'd have uncoverable 3rd tight ends

what starters would other teams want?

Should clarify that you're talking about Dwan Edwards, not the other guy.... -
OK, lets assume for a minute that this is the '85 Bills, who ended up worst in the league. This is the year of the Bullough/Stevenson regime a year before Levy took over. Lets assume that we'll be among the worst in the league (not a stretch) and lets also assume that we'll take 3 years to recover (work with me) If you review the starting lineup from that time, only 4 Bills lineup remain relevant 3 years later when the team significantly improved to make the playoffs; Andre Reed, Jim Richter, Fred Smerlas and Bruce Smith Historical Bills Starting Lineup So the question is, who on the present squad will be relevant 3 years from now, ASSUMING the Bills can turn it around in that time frame. My guesses; -- CJ Spiller -- Eric Wood -- Jarius Byrd Possibilities who are currently backups (other rookies besides Spiller are huge unknowns, so I won't list them) -- Leodis McKelvin Who else?? That's how much roster turnover is still ahead of us.... ugh!

Bills playing Hardball with Packers re: Lynch trade

I haven't seen it discussed in this thread, but ESPN Rumours is saying that a trade could be Lynch for AJ Hawk (LB). Apparently he barely played against the Eagles. I didn't realize he was in the doghouse in GB. Not sure if there would have to be any draft pick adjustment to that one? I'm ignorant of Hawk lately, but I know he was picked very high 5th or 6th overall a couple years ago. Lost track of him in Green Bay. Do we like that one? -
I was also glancing through that Draft history and it explains completely why we're so bad. Inability to hit home runs on the first round. JP Losman (QB), McGahee/Lynch (RB), McCargo (DT) Maybiin (DE) and Mike Williams (T). These are the highest paid positions (plus CB) and core of successful teams. All misses, plus we gave up 2nd round picks for Losman and McCargo increasing the impact. That says nothing of Whitner, Evans, and McKelvin, none of who are home runs Jury still out on others...

Gets a lot of abuse on this board, but he's going to have his 39th start out of 52 games this week. While by no means a star, isn't he pretty much everything that can be expected from a 6th round draft pick? Who stacks up? Bills Draft History

ESPN Power Rankings Just kidding, we're right where we belong! Have at it....

I'm surprised in all the discussion nobody picked up on your point. He all but said that we'll likely see Urbik at RT before long. I bet before the end of the season...

If he shows improvement over previous years and the consensus on him is that he's now "above average", however that's defined. What would be the call on resigning him?? He was a 3rd round pick, hasn't made money yet, so he'd want a long-term commitment with a sizeable contract... He'd probably need something on par w/ Matt Schaub/Texans or what Jake Delhomme got last year from Panthers (before they cut him after 1 year) or what Derek Anderson got from the Browns 2 years ago (before they cut him) or how we paid Rob Johnson ('nuff said) I think that's one of the biggest dilemma's if you're not whether you have your QB and his contract is up. I'm definitely NOT hoping that he sucks. I'd like him to show he's a stud and we have our long-term QB finally and then everyone can get excited about resigning him. If that doesn't come to pass, I'd rather that he sucked and we were sure that we need to get rid of him. I think the middle ground leaves you feeling mighty unsettled....

No you're not reading too much into it. There's no way for all that to happen and be 2-14. A 2-14 team is completely shot, with massive rebuilding to do. I'd rather win 6-8 games and end the year on a good streak. Last 4 games are Browns plus Division. If they can go out winning 3 of 4 that could be defined as success. It would also be a success to get the final answer on Trent Edwards, for good or ill. Is his contract up after this year? My biggest fear is that he ends the year somewhat above average and the big dilemma becomes whether to resign him or not.

I think Hardy's evaluation from last night will rest on 2 plays -- Levi Brown INT.. only the coaches/players know what the play was and whether it was Brown or Hardy who messed up. If Hardy was supposed to go out and its his fault, then he's hosed -- Long catch/penalty,.. I've been trying to find a highlight of this to see it again. Did he do enough to get that ball initially or did he just get lucky on the tip? thoughts on that by those who saw it... Plus neither Nelson nor Chad Jackson will get cut, so they would have to commit to 6 WRs to keep him. So it will be either Hardy or Bell (RB). I don't think both can stick.

I'm sure she's excited for a "hot date" with someone who needs attention by tossing that out into an internet community... and doesn't know how to use Mapquest. Reminds me of our 14 year old that I had to ban from Facebook.

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SPILLER PICK!!!
cage replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't like the Spiller pick either... I thought they should have traded it for Matt Leinart, so we'd have a QB... I guess I was wrong too! -

I don't think leavings the answer... usually when a thread goes downhill I tend to just ignore it and move to a more interesting discussion. Regardless of some of the negatives of online communities, there have been a lot of good discussions on this one in the past few months as well. I'm finding myself posting more, rather than less. While you don't have to reveal who you are, but your point of view has different relevance as former player than just some guy posting. I think it brings a lot of value and as a former rather than current player, nobody can criticize week to week performance. When Tim Graham (ESPN) participates in the community from time to time, the discussions are much better ones than when a random thread degenerates into "xxx sucks" -
I don't know,... go to NFL.com and look at one of the Spiller highlights and the Corey McIntyre highlight (both are there). Looks like they have the screen pass down. Spiller looks like Thurman out there.... Bills/Bengals Highlights McIntyre screen @ 1:53 Spiller screen @ 2:16
