  2. For my part, I started this thread primarily from being shocked as to how bad Mayfield looked having never seen him play. I don't watch much college football, so I get most of my draft opinions from articles, video clips, mocks and this forum leading up the draft. I had never seen him play before and am not planning to do extensive study on Mayfield. I don't dislike him and want to see the Browns do well against anyone other than the Bills. However, when I see all the articles on Mayfield (and Allen), I was expecting far more from him. I recognize this is a single point-in-time reaction to what I saw and that the verdict on 2018 QBs will play out over the next several seasons. However, as they're not rookies anymore, the contrast between the two THIS SEASON is stark.
  3. We're in year 2, so we're not talking about one of his first few starts anymore. That's not a relevant comparison
  4. And his few good throws are celebrated like he's a pinpoint passer...
  5. I watched most of the Browns/Jets game tonight and this is the first time I saw Baker Mayfield outside of highlight clips. Color me unimpressed. I'll have to watch a bit more of him, but based on tonights game, I would consider Josh Allen the better QB, hands down. -- Less than 50% accuracy -- Nearly got his TE killed. I can imagine how many times we'd see that clip and the commentary if Allen made a throw like that -- Consistently high and off target, with the exception of two long passes to OBJ -- Poor decision making -- Erratic while rolling right trying to evade pressure. Allen is often at his best on those types of throws Allen would be crucified for having a game like Mayfield had tonight.
  6. Have to wonder what the spread will be on their 2nd game w/ Patriots... in New England?
  7. One game into season #2 and he completed his 3rd fourth quarter comeback for a victory... #resumebuilding
  8. This data was published before the season started, so it does not include Week 1 results
  9. I had wanted AJ Brown in the 2nd instead of Ford. He had a nice debut w/ Titans against the Browns. 3 catches / 100 yds. I was surprised they never picked a WR even as they were dropping into the 2nd/3rd rounds https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/a-j-browns-explosive-debut-shows-what-hes-capable-of-as-an-nfl-wideout/ On the flip side, I did NOT want us to draft Marquise Brown. He also had a big debut w/ Ravens
  10. Yeah, but it also says that Miami had no intention of trading up. So Darnold would have to drop to them at 11, which was beyond unlikely
  11. I'm enjoying to pile-on as well. However in all honesty, up until the last week before the draft, Darnold was assumed to be the #1 overall pick, with the others varying all over the top 10-15 pics. See the link below where 5 of 6 draft prognosticators including Mayock have Darnold going to the Browns 3 weeks before the draft. This is consistent with Gase' explanation of why he didn't bother working out Darnold separately. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000928583/article/mike-mayocks-2018-nfl-mock-draft-browns-pick-sam-darnold Regardless, I agree with the assessment that the NY media will this guy alive.
  12. Write-up on Dolphins is actually pretty funny.... "Are we the only team that won't get to experience FitzMagic?"
  13. I believe that 2nd play posted was the one that he got the Personal Foul on. He wipes the guy into the middle of next week.
  14. Why is it "hard to be sold on Mr Beane"? Unless you're talking about this guy?
  15. Great move my BB to extend him for two more years. He's turned into quite the player.
  16. Wow, I'm not sure I could have come up with that charitable a defense?!?! Points for creativity!
  17. Obviously a victory, however beyond that I want to see that they've put to bed some of the demons from the last couple years -- all facets of the game come ready to play. I was at last year's opener and the Ravens came straight out of the gate moving the ball at will. No ugly Ravens, Packers, Saints, Colts, Chargers type games -- even if the game is not high-scoring, I want to see that offense can move the ball both passing and running -- mentally ready to play. No stupid penalties life false starts, personal fouls and illegal formation type flags, which were abundant last year -- I don't want to see that we're clearly out-coaching and strategizing the other team, which was missing at times last year -- no injuries
  18. Its hard for me to predict what's going on with Jones (played well into 2nd half), Foster (barely seen) or whether they would keep 7 receivers?? All I know is that both Williams and McKenzie will be on the team as we open the season.
  19. I selected Duke as well. His skillset and profile are so different from the rest of the WR cast. Last week's glimpse was exciting. The TD catch was outstanding. I'd like to see Allen and/or Barkley throwing to him in games. You may as well just cut him now if the plan is to continue having Tyree Jackson throw bad passes into his ZIP code. If he has another outstanding game or better w/ Allen/Barkley, it will be very difficult to overlook him.
  20. They both have over performed their rookie contracts. They both have leverage now and should use it given how perilous the opportunity is for RB in this league. They're in their prime and the time to pay them is now. That's the bottom line.
  21. not a convincing argument...
  22. Aren't both playing on their rookie deals? There's not much bargaining power there anymore when they sign ($ or years). Rightly so, as the previous approach paid too much to rookies who hadn't done anything on the field yet (w/ a +50% bust rate). As first round picks, they're in a bit of a unique position where the 5th year option for the team penalizes RBs especially hard. RBs being so discardable, If either tore an ACL this year, they would forego their single, solitary chance at a big payday. I really can't blame them for wanting this resolved now.
  23. I think you should familiarize yourself w/ the stories of Bo Jackson (career ended on 1 play), Earl Campbell (in a wheelchair by 45) and Darryl Talley ('nuff said). RBs more than any other position have to get themselves paid. They have one shot at it and I don't begrudge them if they've earned it. Contrast to how their counterparts in Baseball, Basketball and Hockey are compensated, all of who have fully guaranteed contracts. In the NFL the front office execs have guaranteed contracts (Pegulas still paying Rex and Whaley, right). I'm all for team players, even home team discount in some cases, but NFL players have the shortest careers and can't put off getting compensated when their performance calls for it. I don't like antics (see TO in Philly or Antonio Brown quitting on Steelers), but as a course of business I have to be on the players side.
