With an undersized Bernard it's more like a 4-1-6. I thought the fact that the Jets ran the ball with ease right down the field all 2nd half, missing their top RB and 2 top OL, might have been a hint to the staff that this might not be an optimal personnel grouping but what do I know, I'm just an internet.

I'm not sure why they didn't try 3 DTs when the Jets were backed up on their own 4 in the last quarter.  They should have been expecting heavy run and not trusting Wilson.  Settle+Jones+Phillips+Lawson may been a better shot at shutting them down deep in their own territory

  2. There's a crazy article on The Athletic detailing the wildness of the World Football League, which was in operation from 1974-5.  Lost a ton of money, but crazy stories.  Sorry its behind paywall:

    https://theathletic.com/3668558/2022/10/25/world-football-league-history/

Anyhow, one part of the narrative is as follows and details what might be the first Pro Football table dive and, of course, it was a former Bills player!

Mike McBath, the former Bills lineman with the booming voice, looked at his buddy, linebacker Billy Hobbs from Texas. What they were about to do was impossibly stupid, and had McBath been in the right frame of mind, he would have realized it too. But by that point in the night, McBath had consumed enough alcohol that the idea he and Hobbs had originated seemed ingenious.

Now they just had to execute.

This night, like many nights, McBath and his Florida Blazers teammates were at Rosie O’Grady’s, one of the most popular bars in Orlando, where sawdust covered the floor, a Dixieland band blasted tunes and singing bartenders served flaming hurricanes in souvenir glasses.

“We had a lot of drinks and a good time,” McBath said. “That was our motto.”

On the second floor, McBath and Hobbs stared over the balcony at the packed crowd. One teammate said McBath was a “wild man,” but Billy Hobbs was a “wild, wild, wild man.” This was to be their crowning act as a tandem.

The pair jumped over the railing, their huge bodies falling through the air like pro wrestlers, until their chests smashed a table, flattening it on impact. Mission complete, they stood up, brushed themselves off and stumbled away in search of another beer. These were the moments of camaraderie that kept McBath and his teammates going after their pay stopped.

This was on the webs well over a year ago, as has been every football highlight of his life, not something “you only get on Twitter” …, nice none the less, thanks for posting it, 😁👍

I'll stand corrected.  I've seen tons of Wyoming highlights and even some Firebaugh, but hadn't seen this one yet

  4. I've been wondering how its possible that he's even ready?  Look at all our discussion on Tre White.  He was hurt on Thanksgiving day game in NOLA (late November).  OBJ tore ACL in Super Bowl (early February).  We're still wondering when White will finally see the field.  The Bills had to put him on PUP.  Though he's 2+ months ahead of the journey that OBJ is going down.  I think he just wants some to start paying him.  I would have to seriously wonder whether he would be ready to play before the playoffs at earliest.

  5. Interesting article from the Athletic.  I'll highlight the categories and rankings.  This only focuses on veteran contracts, so QBS on rookie deals are excluded from this assessment.  Beane strikes again!

    https://theathletic.com/3661732/2022/10/10/nfl-best-worst-qb-contracts-list/

Group 1:   We know what we are getting, it is amazing, and these deals promote team flexibility so we can build a championship contender for long term.

    - Josh Allen

    - Patrick Mahomes

Group 2:  We know what we are getting, it is mostly amazing, but the marriage is not perfect and this deal could put us behind the 8-ball quickly

    - Aaron Rodgers

Group 3:  We know what we are getting, it is mostly amazing, but there’s significant pain in 2023 almost no matter what happens

    - Tom Brady

Group 4:  We know what we are getting, it is pretty good, and we maintain flexibility beyond this season.

    - Derek Carr

Group 5:  We know what we are getting, it is pretty good, but these deals limit team flexibility significantly.

    - Matthew Stafford

    - Kirk Cousins

Group 6:  We see elite upside with our quarterbacks, but there also are questions about what we are getting, and we’re in big trouble if our guy doesn’t play like a Tier 1-2 QB moving forward.

    - Deshaun Watson

    - Russell Wilson

    - Kyler Murray

    - Dak Prescott

Group 7:   We know what we are getting, it is just OK, and these deals carry mild to moderate pain in 2023 if we move on after this season, which it looks like we might do.

    - Jared Goff

    - Matt Ryan

    - Ryan Tannehill

    - Jameis Winston

Group 8:  We know what we are getting, it is just OK, but we can move on painlessly after this season, which people think we might do

    - Jimmy Garoppolo

    - Geno Smith

Group 9:  What we are getting is significantly flawed, but at least we can get out after this year without pain (and we likely will)

    - Carson Wentz

    - Marcus Mariota

    - Baker Mayfield

This FO is incredible at evaluating DB's. Dane Jackson, Levi, and Benford are all late round/UDFA, Tre is an all pro, and Elam looks like he will be a long term starter at #2.

To say nothing of Hamlin and Jacquon Johnson.  If Jackson hadn't been hurt in the Titans game then the #1 defense would have started a 7th rounder and three 6th rounders against the Dolphins two weeks ago.

The Pats* did something like this for years with Brady.  They always paid him well below market value and then funneled money into a company he owed to make up the difference.  Can't remember the specifics about the arrangement, but this has been talked about for years with Brady.

Also, generally true of any large market.  I'd imagine that big stars in LA, Chicago, Dallas, NY, Boston, Philadelphia would make more in endorsements in the local markets than Buffalo, GB, Cleveland, Cincinnati....

You make a good observation, and are probably correct. Coaches favorites are not always players favorites though. I have read lots of love from players for Josh.  Not sure I have ever really seen players speak about Edmunds in a similar manner.

Allen is the QB.  He's going to get 100x the discussion anyone else is.  That who the whole team sees as its leader / face of franchise.  I don't think we see players speak about anyone in a similar manner; Hyde, Poyer, Milano, Diggs, Morse, Dawkins??

I was at that game. I got drenched even though I had a rain pancho. I had one of the NFL approved plastic bags and all my stuff still got wet.  I still have a rain damaged program from the game.  I wanted Josh starting instead of the QB I called "Nathan Marangi" to start and when Josh came in I went nuts because I finally had something to cheer about.

I was at that game as well!  It was my wife's b-day present for me.  She held out and was a trooper through a miserable rainy day, so she forever gets credit for that!  I agree that the energy picked up when Allen entered the game.  He held his own in an unexpected appearance as described by OP.  Great journey from there on......

ESPN plus is pretty good. Really helps a lot for sports betting with the NHL and College basketball

Living outside of Buffalo, I've watched more Sabres this past year on ESPN+ than I have in the last 5+ years combined

  11. One of my favorite players and all-time best trade!  if the Bills win SB this year the ONLY regret that I would have is that he wasn't on the team.  Never know, if there's a few injuries maybe we'll make a move for him at the trade deadline to shore up pass rush for "future considerations"
