In fact, it behooves GB to drag the negotiations out past June 1st so that Rodgers cap hit can be spread across two seasons. So reasonably the Pack should ask for at least the Russel Wilson package. Offering two 2nd rounders or something insulting. During which time, Lamar finds a non-colluding NFC team to pay him. Rodgers does his passive-aggressive diva thing the whole time trying to neg the Packers into "doing right by him," forgetting that he's held them hostage multiple times over 15 years. Most recently last year. The entire time, the Jets fanbase, who has already assumed this deal was done, being wailing and gnashing their teeth. They send Rich Eisen, Greenberg, and George RR Martin hate Tweets everyday which eventually makes it onto the broadcast fodder. Well except Martin. He just paints figurines and doesn't write books. The Jets will either mortgage their future picks to overpay, or GB is annoyed enough from being slandered on sports radio for months that they pull out and lose nothing except the money they were going to pay Rodgers anyway.

I’ve been saying for years that we can’t count on our division rivals to be incompetent like we were for 17 years of the drought. With the draft last year and the moves they’ve made so far, the Jets and Dolphins look like they’ve grown up. Not fun.

It's hard for me to hold it against Lamar to ask for fully guaranteed and mostly perplexes me as to why the Browns ownership didn't get forced out for wrecking the market. That deal was outrageous. The only thing the Browns seemed to win in the negotiation was paying him the 1 million for his first year they knew he'd be suspended for. Deshaun Watson is an unending PR nightmare that even championships won't erase. Yet he was the only person to have a guaranteed contract. This reset the market, but you're supposed to not notice. Kyler Murray got the same basic Watson contract just with 60% guaranteed money. It's amusing to me that teams would say "Ah, you see? Murray's contract isn't guaranteed and that was the last deal so THAT is the reset. Forget about fully guaranteed now."

If you were trying super hard to make it NOT seem like collusion, you’d at least ask these “sources” to not all say the same thing at the same time on the same day.

Yes every team is hoping that every agent forgot. You can’t un-ring that bell. And the fact that THE worst guy got the first guaranteed deal is the straw that broke the back. Lamar is a talented QB but he’s a franchise leader who gives back to his community. He’s worth more than Watson in PR alone and he knows it. It’s not his fault the market got reset. The cost of eggs is $8 a dozen and QB contracts are guaranteed.
