For what its worth: "Analysis Read & React: Intelligent player who knows his keys and "feels" his way to the ball. Aggressiveness allows him to be fooled by those keys, like pulling guards, on misdirection and takes a false step forward on play action, but also recovers well and regularly sniffs out reverses and other trick plays to prevent big gains. Run defense: Constantly around the ball, fights traffic easily and steps into gaps instead of waiting for the ballcarriers. Tracks the ball to either sideline but needs perfect angles to beat NFL tailbacks to perimeter. Anchors and can stick bigger backs with lowered pads. Doesn't have elite size to stand up to NFL-caliber linemen, but regularly rips off blocks with strong hands and can make plays even if initially knocked backward. Pass defense: Not an elite athlete. Covers some ground in pass coverage and gets good depth in his drop, taking correct angles to stay with tight ends and bigger slot receivers down the middle. Takes time to reach running backs going into the flat. Reliable tackler in the middle zone to prevent yards after the catch on crossing routes. Tackling: Secure tackler by not a feared one -- plays strong and finds a way to bring down ballcarriers. Drops his hips, keeps his head up to drag down ballcarriers. Makes running backs pay for going out of bounds with a strong shoulder. Occasionally tries to tackle high, allowing the ballcarrier to elude. Relies on hustle and angles, not straight-line speed, to make plays outside the box. Pass Rush/Blitz: Didn't blitz often and lacks great closing speed to reach the quarterback from the stack. Sure open-field tackler who doesn't miss many once he's in the backfield with excellent tackling technique. Intangibles: Exceptional on-field hustle and instincts and off-field work ethic. Gained good weight and muscle since arriving at BC. Should garner top general and football character and intelligence grades. Serves as back-up long snapper. Why it may make sense for the Bills to trade up . . .
mabden replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills tried this when Jauron was HC and unless I am mistaken our undersized LBs got beat up, pushed around, and could not last the season. No thanks. I agree, either stay put and draft the best available player at LT or LB or CB or WR, or if nothing is worthy at the 10 spot, trade down for more draft picks. We have 3 picks of the first 100, so we should get some very good players who should be able to contribute come opening day. I trust Nix and Gailey to make the right decision(s) and feel they've been really good so far. -
I don't understand all the LT being biggest need talk
mabden replied to buffan031's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree. LT is the team's biggest need. Followed by LB, WR, CB, TE in that order. -
TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)

AGREED! This would have the potential for another Johnson/Flutie debacle which eventually cost Wade Phillips his job. Just say no. -
Just read some comments by NE owner Bob Kraft on how signing Mario Williams was a bad deal for the team because now you tie up all that money on one player and can't get an other quality players so in essence the team gets worse as a result. Yet, meager Bob shelled out 48mil for Brady in a 2011 contract extension. Is Kraft worried, jealous, or just another NE hypocrite, or all of the above? For what it's worth, he can kiss my big, pimply, white a$$. "FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Two people with knowledge of the contract said Thursday night that Tom Brady has agreed to a four-year extension that would make him the NFL's highest paid player. The extension for the New England Patriots quarterback begins in 2011 at an average of $18 million per year with a total of $48.5 million guaranteed, one of those persons said. Both persons spoke on condition of anonymity because the paperwork had not yet been filed with the NFL." http://www.nesn.com/2010/09/new-deal-makes-tom-brady-nfls-top-earner-at-18-million-per-season.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/09/tom-brady-contract-extens_n_711578.html

Courtney Upshaw, Outside Linebacker, Alabama Getting a pass-rusher is something Buffalo has struggled to do for years. Shawne Merriman was a bust at outside linebacker and now the team is playing with out-of-position inside 'backers on the edge. The 2012 draft is weak on pass-rushers, but Courtney Upshaw has the exciting blend of athleticism and playmaking skill to warrant a Top 10 pick. Upshaw will step in and be an immediate starter, with the task of attacking Tom Brady twice each season. He has Terrell Suggs-like talent and athleticism. Bills' fans should love this selection.

Watching these playoffs....makes me hate the bills more
mabden replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is tough for me to watch playoff teams play, realizing how far the Bills need to go to get to the level needed to be in the playoffs. However, I don;t hate the Bills for it. 10. Buffalo Bills: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama 2012 NFL Mock Draft -
If the Bills do not select Upshaw in the first round...

Thank You! Courtney Upshaw, Outside Linebacker, Alabama I know many of you will want a left tackle here and Jonathan Martin is on the board, but Demetrius Bell can be very good if healthy. Where were you when it all went wrong?
mabden replied to Juror#8's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that the MCM was the turning point for this franchise's demise. Maybe not directly, but the MCM combined with Wade Phillips mishandling of the Flutie/Johnson debacle, led to the eventual firing of Wade and brought us Tom Donahoe with his string of worthless coaches and draft picks. Then Ralph sort of woke up and desperately hired Marv to return us to some sense of order. Marv may have done that, but I think he really wanted to coach, and was in over his head as GM. He drafts were poor as was his choice for Juran as coach. Nix/Gailey have a lot of work to do to make up for 10 years of futility. I see positive things happening with those 2 driving the franchise, although this current losing streak is concerning and disheartening. The biggest concern I have right now is how do you instill a winning attitude amongst the players, in the face of such horrible loses. -
Assuming is Fitz starts every game, you pull him when the score differential is more than 35 points and you have a whole quarter left to play.

Does CJ Spiller want to play football?
mabden replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't call it gutless, if Spiller cuts back just a little he is in. Instead lack of vision, keeps him running right into the tackle. Jackson would have scored. -
Bills-Redskins Prediction Page

10/30 Washington Redskins (Tor) - Bills overcome the Toronto "home" crowd and get back to winning, 24 - 14. -
I would buy a thong if it came in the zubaz pattern, so that I could eat, drink, and dream Bills. A lot cheaper and much more fun!

Lets look at the postives of today
mabden replied to aussiebills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had this game as a 7 point loss. I had the Bills at 4-2 going into the bye. Would have been nice to see them win today (and they were in position to win!) But my sentiments run the same as the OP. What a great season so far. This years' team is so unlike any of the previous 11 plus years. Next up Redskins in Toronto. Go Bills! -
I believe the Bills can maintain their efforts, improve their run defense some more, and looking at the teams ahead, I don't see any explosive offensive teams other than NE and SD. Possibly the NY Jets or Giants could provide some offensive firepower, but also higher turnover opportunities. While I don;t think they would beat the record, they should keep pace with their aggressive style and mindset.

Recent posts indicate some on TBD think that Buffalo's current defensive pace is unsustainable. Giving up large amounts of yards per game versus takeaways. With 16 takeaways in 5 games = 3.2 per game times 16 games, the Bills are on pace for 51. The 1984 Seattle Seahawks hold the NFL record for most takeaways in a single season with 63.

I'm sticking with my original predictions for the season. Posted 9-10-11 10/16 @ New York Giants - Another tough loss on the road, 10 - 17. 10/23 Bye Record at the break 4 -2. 10/30 Washington Redskins (Tor) - Bills overcome the Toronto "home" crowd and get back to winning, 24 - 14. 11/06 New York Jets - Repeat of the NE game with the Bills coming from behind to win it on a field goal with 2 seconds on the clock, 17 - 14. 11/13 @ Dallas Cowboys Dallas - looking to stay alive in the NFC East, control the game from the start and win, 24 - 31. 11/20 @ Miami Dolphins - Bills squish the fish for a 17 - 10 win in 70 degree sunny weather (for a change) 11/27 @ New York Jets - Revenge time for the Jets, who cares, Bills lose 14 - 21. 12/04 Tennessee Titans - Titans are rebuilding w/o a decent QB despite Chris Johnson's best efforts, Bills win 21 - 10. 12/11 @ San Diego Chargers - SD is still a tough talented team and Rivers hoses the Bills for 28 points and a loss, 3 - 28. 12/18 Miami Dolphins - Low scoring game in the snow, Bills win it, 10 - 7. 12/24 Denver Broncos - Denver can't get running game going, Tebo can't get it done, Bills smother Broncos, 24 - 10. 1/01 @ New England Patriots - Bills already have the division wrapped up, play all the back ups and still almost win, 14 - 17. Final Record 11 - 5 (fixed) Division Title.

Stevie Johnson calls Gailey "Megamind" LOL

This post/quote has filled my heart with so much warmth. I haven't felt this good about the team in 20 years! :D :D :D :D -
NO That's what Lee Evans was supposed to be.

After watching the Bills since 1973 and especially over the last few seasons, I believe that Chan Gailey has done a remarkable job as the Head Coach. Chan has these Bills believing in themselves, plain and simple. In the NFL, all players have talent, some more than others, but the deference is how they play on Sunday. The proof was this Sunday at the Ralph. The following quotes sums it up for me: Gailey, "We Expect To Win!" Juaron, "It's tough to win in the NFL."
