Diagnosing the Bills pass protection problems
maddenboy replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree. If you do that, you are signalling run. Or at least telegraphing that the TE is not a receiving threat on this play. Better is to use the TE (chandler) to beat the blitz on a few hot-reads early. That will slow the pressure. Ergo, better QB play is the answer. I mean, look at slide 13/15. Pretty much everybody was open except the place Thad was staring at. And it seems he always stares and locks-in to his left. If true, best believe others have noticed. This. -

The Bills Have Hired a Director of Analytics
maddenboy replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Also, he's on the wrong side of 45. And McShay had him #1 also, but in the production meeting the bosses told him to drop it to #3. Makes for better (fake) TV (arguments) or something. -
EJ might be better when he gets back.
maddenboy replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Check it out sometime. Watch a few pass plays for each, just looking at the QB. Geno takes a classic drop, ball high, eyes downfield. When his head turns, his feet and whole body turn, ready to fire. When he throws, it has good velocity because he drives the ball, because his feet are properly set. He climbs the pocket well, still head up, ball up (usually), and feet moving correctly. EJ seems to try to use his "arm talent" to fling the ball to a receiver he just spotted. He seldom climbs the pocket, preferring to lower the ball and take off to find a clear patch of grass outside the pocket so he can (hopefully) set himself up to throw. I'd rather have EJ. But I really want him to work on footwork. Arm-talent is for college. -

maddenboy replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EJ's main problem is sloppy footwork. This is why Geno looks so much better to our eyes - Geno has great footwork - watch it sometime. EJ cant work on that with a bad wheel. -
Does this include the reality that a conditional 3rd is basically a 4th. Since its after the end of the 3rd round?

once again, Mods should consider pinning these for a couple days. Or, starting their own "mods" thread for All-22. Its clear that we love these as Bills fans. Git 'er done.

yubb. I mean commonman

Sadly, they do not. I find grammar and even spelling errors everywhere. Often at PFT. About 3 years ago, before he went NBC, I volunteered about 3 times, via email, to proofread for free. No reply. These errors affect the flow of the reading. You can dumb down the language all you like, to least common denominator. But at least speak English. So many times I have to pause and wonder "wait, what?" It is fun to be the grammar police once in a while, but overall, I feel there is no respect for English, especially among those who went to college and studied journalism. Come on, man!!!

My Thoughts Got Blown Up......
maddenboy replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We like Woods because he gets open. We like Stevie because of what he is supposed to be able to do after the catch. EJ liked Woods because he gets open. It looks like Thad likes Stevie because . . . he's stevie. We have all seen Thad lock onto one receiver until he gets open. I think this is why it seems Woods is MIA. Havent seen the All-22 but I bet Woods still gets open. -
Annoying Announcers and My Thoughts
maddenboy replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Collinsworth gave me something last night in the Packers game. On a successful play to the right flat (a screen or designed run) he pointed out why it worked so well. 2 packers receivers were lined up to the right. At the snap, both ran square outs. Collinsworth pointed out that, on that type of play, the receivers are taught to not look back for the ball - just run the route. Why? (as they are showing the replay to underscore Collinsworth's point). Because it was Man coverage. If the cbs see the wr look back, then they will look back and see the run coming their way. So the WRs just keep running away from the play and the man-coverage cbs blindly follow. This is what I want from a color man. Little "chess" tidbits. -
Can't Believe NFL Network
maddenboy replied to FredJackson4Ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the offseason I took to calling it the "Jets and Cowboys Network." Each week they'd have a special guest. Most commonly the Bengals and the Fish. Occasional cameos by the 49ers. I was correct. This weeks special guest seems to be the Patriots. Who, (coincidentally?) are playing the Jets. Hey BCB, you ARE aware that your avatar looks like a Dalek, right? That cant be by mistake. And I dont mean that in a bad way. -
Saints final injury report - graham practiced

For fantasy purposes, I hope he plays, gets 3 TDs, and the bills win by ten. -
What would it take for people to take the Bills seriously?
maddenboy replied to KikO M G's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're all way off the mark. A true Franchise Quarterback. One who gives you a REAL chance to win every game. One who national audiences want to see, and to hear about. One who makes the whole team better. Without one, we wont be taken seriously. With a win here and there, we will just be slightly more interesting for a week or two. -
That's a very good read. Well written. And interesting. Lamonica was a little before my time, but I'm happy to reconnect with the past greats once in a while. Puts things in perspective.

When were you most wrong on a player?
maddenboy replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Footwork. That's all it is. Geno has great footwork (I just threw up a little). When Geno's head moves, his whole body turns, ready to fire. EJ's footwork sucks. He wants to do it on arm talent alone. Sucks that he has a leg injury, so now he cant even work on it in his down time. -
Git 'er done !

Good stuff. I look for the All-22 posts here at TBD every week. I feel like I have been missing them. Then I see this one buried off the main page with zero replies. What a shame. And what a waste. It might not be worth a pin. Then again, it might be. At least for a day or so. I cant be the only one who looks for these.

HC: Andy Reid. There is no close second. Because unlike the Colts when they went 1-15 on purpose, the Chiefs tried their best to win every game last year. OC: Peyton Manning DC: Mike Pettine. Done more with less . . . .

When were you most wrong on a player?
maddenboy replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Incidently, (before my time), why did we draft RB at the first overall pick of rounds 1 and 2 in the same year???? Who F***ing does that?? Some things never change. http://en.wikipedia....Draft#Round_one -
When were you most wrong on a player?
maddenboy replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Von Miller gets an "incomplete." We see what happened to Merriman after he got off (his usual dose of) steroids. And so far Cushing isnt as dominant as before he got busted. (and i hope players are subject to testing while on IR, since PEDs help you recover faster). He might still be the "risk" level you thought. Just not exactly the risk you expected. -

I was none-too-pleased when we traded Peerless Price. I was sick of giving away all our good players. "Watch him go to a real team and be a Superstar." Instead it seemed like that old saw about him doing what everyone else does when he hits the Lotto. He retired. Or just was never that good. -
Polian was right when he said recently (paraphrasing): "Marv Levy did less with more, than any coach in history. That team was loaded. We (the league, not just the Bills) may never see such a collection of talent again."
