Remember that the fans pay your salary. Remember that without fans, you'd be making the same money a Safety made in 1956. And that job at Bethlehem Steel paid more. This is lesson #1. Or #101 if you prefer. Dont believe me? Ask the coach, the GM, the owner, the PR staff, and his agent.

I think Stefan Charles is the next Wake..
maddenboy replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Charles pans out . . . I think Whaley is the next Polian. That's right. I said it. Knows exactly what he wants, and knows how to go and get it. I mean, who knew we needed another DE? (Well, some of us, and anyone who follows the Giants and Steelers model, but still.) Didnt see Nix nor Marv doing this: scouring other teams' practice squads even when we dont have a major injury to fill, and basically working weekly to improve the roster NOW. And the groceries are very tasty. -
As I watch this horrible Vikings team...

No. I'm talking about Ponder now, vs. Ponder a few weeks ago. Or last year. Tight spiral. Setting his feet to throw. Throwing precisely when his back foot hits on his drop (Thanks, Mayock). Making the right reads. -

Near the end of 3Q, I suddenly thought: We should draft a QB with our first or second pick next year. I wanted EJ sooooo bad. But look what a little competition has done for Christian Ponder. You cannot do anything without a QB. If you have two, so be it. But zero is not an option. Let EJ and the new guy fight like hell. EJ had no real competition this year. -
[closed]What have you seen in EJ Manuel so far?
maddenboy replied to UBBullsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
poor footwork. A strong preference for Wood over SJ. Unwilling to keep it on the read-option, which I am sick of. Too many underthrows. I'd rather have an overthrow 10/10. Including ones that sail 10 yards out of bounds. Zero chance for interception. (btw, the Bills never run pre-snap motion. I have watched every game on Rewind. I saw it for the first time all season on 1st and goal against KC. IMHO, motion helps young qbs and also helps receivers get off the line). -
Which one of you was this?

Not quite. Flynn is most famous, and he is indeed famous, for parlaying that one success into multi-millions of dollars. We should all be jealous. -

James Harrison (although it seems like he is working to create a personna). Night Train Lane (discussing proper use of the forearm to the head or chin of an opponent. FF to 50 second mark). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPm-6ZlTM5o Jack Tatum, if I ever felt like going across the middle. Aaron Hernandez off the field.

No. I wish he reminded me of Russell Wilson. Wilson took charge of that team from his first day as a rookie. Even in preseason, when the starting job was still up for grabs, Wilson used to text the WRs after the game to say "this is what we need to work on for the next game. . . . These are the things in the opponent we can exploit . . . (etc)." Translation: "I am a QB. This is what QBs do. I'm sorry if you guys havent had a QB in the past, but for damn sure you have one now." EJ has that "be patient with me, i'm still learning" vibe about him.

was watching Tivo of sunday night football Colts v. Texans. They put up a stat: 14 teams who were 3-5 have made the playoffs in the modern era. Including two teams from 2012. I know we are 3-6. But keep hope alive. We have some good players. And all of our players, even the scrubs, play hard. Are we winning the Super Bowl this year? No. Is that the goal for every season? Yes. But I think our glass is more than half full. Just like KC last year and the Colts two years ago. We MUST HAVE A FRANCHISE QB. Then all the talent we have will begin to shine. Until then, channeling Parcells, we are what our record says we are. period.

I think that if CJ is in on the goal line in Single Back, the defense knows its a dive. Telegraphing. I think that if CJ is in on the goal line in Two Back, it has to be with the Fullback. Again, a plunge or dive. You arent running outside and everybody knows CJ's default is to bounce it outside. I think that if CJ is in the slot on goalline, he doesnt have enuf space to operate. I dont think CJ will ever be in two back on the goalline with Freddie. How does one help the other? Decoy?

WRONG. Because Manning, or any REAL franchise QB, would have had is fingerprint all over this team since the first day of OTAs. any REAL franchise QB would always be on the players on offense to do everything right, or answer to him. Not just Manning. Russell Wilson had this attitude since the first day of his rookie year. Same with Luck. They can exude that confidence and enforce their wills, because they have command of the offense, and are constantly working to improve it. They arent just trying to be the best qb on the roster, they are trying to be the best QB ever. I wanted EJ badly (see the Sig), but so far, . . . meh.

And, this team will not be looking past anyone. Not even winless teams. This team will be frothing at the mouth for a chance to kick an ass.

I think the Mods should have a special incantation or a spell, to make trolls go away. -
i dont quite buy this. Not at the QB position. Even against scrubs, you still have to (1) read the D presnap, (2) audible if necessary, (3) read the coverage as the play progresses, (4) find the correct receiver, and (5) deliver the ball on time, and accurately. The only difference might be that, against scrubs, there isnt as much pass rush. But then again, behind the 2nd or 3rd O-line, there might be more. Or, if, like Thad, the QB stares at receivers until they finally look wide open, maybe our 7th wr was better than their 9th cb a few times. But it didnt seem like Tuel was staring his WRs down. He looked so drastically different in live action, compared to preseason, that I chalked it up to nerves. After he's had a few weeks to think about it, I bet he comes out slingin', just like he did in preseason.

Taylor Mays, based on this year's Hard Knocks, will have his attorneys keeping a close watch on this one. http://www.cincyjung...tting-ripped-by http://www.cbssports...ode-three-recap (scroll down to the ninja turtle pic. And to the description of how, in every single episode, Mays goes on and on and on and on about how much he loves his girlfriend. Methinks thou dost protest too much). ----- http://www.grantland...ke-center-stage "then came wide receiver Roy Roundtree and his RUTHLESS Taylor Mays impression, and it put the entire thing over the top. We don't have video, but he kind of made Mays look like an androgynous, overzealous exercise instructor, and he clearly nailed it because the room went insane. Long live the Rookie Talent Show." (if you havent seen it, the rookies showed a video of them imitating Taylor Mays going through drills. Prancing like a little ballerina. Everyone was laughing hard. Except Mays, of course.) -
