Donne Henderson - Candid Interview
maddenboy replied to elroy16's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alert: Its an AUDIO link. Warning to those of you at work. -------- As far as our DBs, I feel confident in that group. Especially with the pressure we expect to generate. But why does it take years for Leodis to "learn" to look for the damn ball? Lastly, I think Bills draft a CB in rounds 6 or 7, just cause it seems like every team drafts at least one or two every year. Competition is good, I guess. -
Bills finish 20th in USA Today Power Rankings...
maddenboy replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We all know, Rankings of any kind serve 2 purposes. Clicks. Discussion by the author of each entry on the list, to incite discussion. And clicks. That is all. -
probably the perfect time of the year to do it. The tuesday after the SB. (thinly-veiled bump)

Rex Ryan wants best defense EVER!!!
maddenboy replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. And not only that, but it would be perfect smack for BB to say, in effect, "I can beat you with my team, or we can trade teams and I'll beat my team with yours." I dont think BB is trippin on any one player (not named Brady) -
what do we need to do to get to Pats level?
maddenboy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To beat them consistently, you have to be Better than them. "Just as good" wont get it, because they out-coach you. Maybe its scheme. Maybe its 6 DBs on the field every play, with our stout D-line. Also, its being able to do 2 things very well on Offense, since they are about taking what you do best. That 2nd best thing needs to score a lot of points. -
Browns seem done with Johnny Manziel; enters rehab
maddenboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"He continues to lie to his executives, to his coaches, to his teammates, to the media, and most of all, he continues to lie to himself." This is what I meant when I said I think JFF is finally serious. -
Browns seem done with Johnny Manziel; enters rehab
maddenboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think JFF is serious about this. Dont know if it will last. As public as he is, he would never allow it to be leaked that he needed treatment. Unless he authorized the leak. If, instead, he had sneaked off to rehab, i'd be skeptical. If he can stay sober for even a couple weeks, clean out the cobwebs, etc., He's got a shot. -

Crazy idea that could work
maddenboy replied to Franchiseneedsme's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Houston, sure. Revis, notsomuch. I've been swayed by many articles and arguments that the "shutdown corner" is a thing of the past. Based on so many 3, 4, 5 wr sets. The idea that one guy can shut down one side of the field is kind of dead. Also, along that line of thinking is the corollary that you shouldnt pay a corner like a shutdown guy, because even if he's that good, you really dont need that. And i am led to understand that Rexy's defense needs a shutdown guy to make it work, so he can blitz all day. But he needs to adjust a little. Too much talent on this D to "need" to blitz all day. -

"Tom Brady Cannot Stop"--Interesting NYT Profile
maddenboy replied to MattM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That article cannot stop. Its basically a "day in the life" piece, covering several periods of Brady's life. And how he only eats nuts and twigs or something. If it had been about somebody I like, I probably would have enjoyed it. -
Isnt the combine always in Indy? I remember in 1993 I was in Indy for a conference. And lots of athlete types were in the Hotel. I chatted with a couple who said they were there for the combine. Being in law school, I started drooling. But they all had agents already. And they all were super confident that they would set the NFL on fire. Ahhh, the good ol days.

at this point in my long and storied Bills Fandom history, I really want just one thing in my QB. Brains. I assume that most QBs in the league can make most of the throws. But I no longer need a Howitzer unless its attached to a good QB brain. Same for running ability. Or height. There are some guys at the margins of this. Like Fitzy. Supposedly good Harvard brain, actually adequate QB brain, but we can do better. If Glennon has smarts, lets get him. If not, he's just Jeff George, etc., rinsed and repeated.

Contrarian Offensive Philosophy
maddenboy replied to D. L. Hot-Flamethrower's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont think the Fullback really presents a big headache for the Defense. He's just an extra blocker. Defenses usually play gap control. As long as they have every gap covered, it doesnt matter how many backs are in the backfield, unless one of them will be an extra blocker. So maybe you study tendencies and shift to one side. Still not a big headache. Even if the FB carries, he's still going to a gap/hole that we have covered. -Enter the split backfield, 2 back formations (no fullback). Which anyone knows who has played madden. NOW there's a problem. Both backs are legitimate threats to carry. To both sides. Or up the middle. And one may be a decoy. Or might go out in pass pattern. To me, the 2back set is better to achieve your goal than a fullback set. -
2 reasons (if i may speak for at least a small portion of the group). First, we dont really care about stats. Like the posts who want us to look at P.Manning's first year stats, blah blah. When Foles was good, he was hot. Making good throws. With confidence. Leading the squad. Looking occasionally to 2nd and 3rd reads (although there isnt that much of that in Kelly's offense). EJ has not shown any of that. 2 QBs can throw for 60% completion, and finish 12-4 and 3-13, respectively. Second, we dont want to wait around to see if, maybe, we can see some "mild improvement." This is why we were happy to have Orton last year. There's only 16 games per year. We dont have time to sit around and hope. "Show me something, EJ." "Show me you have what it takes to be a Franchise QB, irrespective of stats." And hurry up about it.
-
If, as you point out, "there are two QB needy teams at #1 and #2," then maybe Foles to anywhere is just smoke. Smoke designed to raise Foles' value. Because Kelly has to trade Foles (or Sanchize) + stuff to either the team at #1 or the team at #2.

former active bills player you'd most want back
maddenboy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other. Because "none of the above" was not an option. Feels like this tread was started as a Lynch love-fest. But he didnt want to be here. Why would I want him back . . . here? Same for Peters. Fair to wonder if their production would fall off if they were forced to go somewhere they didnt wanna be. -
POLL: NE Cheating - What should be done?
maddenboy replied to dtgolder's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marcellus Wiley made this point on local Los Angeles radio today: -If the penalty for cheating to win the superbowl is only 750K and a 1st round pick, dont you think everybody would do it? (of course that was the Spygate penalty. And with coach contracts a secret, Kraft probably gave BB the $$ back in the next deal. And the draft pick is #32 anyway. Sure didnt stop BB from cheating more.) And especially for a repeat cheater, the penalty needs to be something to make it not worth it next time. -- btw, Wiley is great on talk radio. The show, "Max and Marcellus" is really well done. Marcellus is both from Compton, and also went to Columbia. He's not bad at all. -
can they please stop with the "Assistant Head Coach" thing? Its so stupid. If you like a guy, say so in the press conference. If you think he's future HC material, say that too. I wonder if the players are moved or fooled at all by this nothing-ness called AHC. If I were a coach and they offered me that title, I would decline. Why lie to the world? I'm the OL coach in Jacksonville, so what? ---- Edit: Now I see that he had that same meaningless title in NYJ, so i guess anything less would have felt like a demotion. If he's that kinda dude. But still, who are we fooling here?

Bills fire pro personnel director
maddenboy replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if his contract was set to expire, doesnt it help him to be let go early in the draft process? -
Do we really want this? I mean, we are not winning the superbowl in 2015. So maybe instead of carrying weight, maybe lets look to '16 and '17. Younger and cheaper at RB, and better at QB. The Bucs arent looking for somebody to "carry" Josh McGlennon, and the Jets arent looking for somebody to carry Geno. A QB is your guy, or he isnt.

(Attorney - former Tax consultant - tax rules change a lot though). I'm pretty sure that state taxation rules are based on the Source of the income. Which would be NY. (but, compare: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901427-why-does-income-from-a-non-income-tax-state-get-taxed-on-my-state-return TurboTax uses the term "residency," which might be more accurate. TT focuses on your residency when the income was earned. DM should be considered to have earned his 4M in NY).

The salary cap no longer works as intended
maddenboy replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The cap works. It does not achieve perfect parity because of the QB situation in the league. There arent enuf QBs. But without the cap, imagine if New England had unlimited cash to spend. Brady, Dez Bryant and Calvin Johnson. And Adrian Peterson. I'd think that would skew your percentages even more sharply. -
NYS Stadium study favors 4 sites (3 downtown)
maddenboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Underground Parking. I've mentioned it a couple times in various threads. Why not just dig an 8-15 story underground parking structure? Doesnt solve the Tailgaiting issue, but would make parking a non-issue. Ingress and Egress might be a B word, so make multiple exits, with multi-lane paving.
