Jets, Bills to pursue Revis (Update-Signed with Jets)
maddenboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Revis. And I dont want Revis. But given that choice, Revis. Sigh. But I gotta agree. We can have 8 shutdown CBs, but with no QB, what's the point? -
Your next Bills QB will be...the Sanchise.

Cutler has been nagging at me all day. I dont think FO will waste time with the available scrubs. I think FO believes rams are serious about keeping Bradford. I hear Cutler's numbers and I cringe. We would be forced to keep him for at least 2 seasons. Then I remember (a) its not my money, (b) the money has to be spent, (c ) we can afford it, and (d) This FO really is about winning NOW. Not that Cutler is great, but he's by far the best, unfortunately. I got a feelin . . . . -
Fixed. In Whaley I trust. Many people sang the same song when we let Jairus Byrd walk. And Whaley won. Some will sing it again when Spiller walks. I suspect Whaley has a plan. Draft or scheme or FA, I think we will be okay here. Breathe dood. Breathe.

RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut

That really is one of the more stupiderest sayings. The phrasing should begin with the words "to stupid people . . . " -

Shaun Hill: Polian would take a hard look

For about the last 5 years, I've always had it in the back of my mind that Shawn Hill was the best backup in the NFL. Even though sometimes I cant even remember his name. -

This year's Kyle Orton. And I dont mean that in a bad way. Nothing wrong with a seasoned vet coming in. To start. We can cry all we want about needing a "franchise" guy, but they arent available. So in the meantime . . . . -
What do you think will happen with Jerry Hughes?
maddenboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
nope. I voted "signed to long term agrmt" and "draft a pass rusher" Whaley grew up in the Steeler way. Get rid of guys a year too soon, rather than a year too late. But this doesnt apply to Hughes. He's still an ascending player. And we can afford it. The Steeler way also suggests you can never have enuf pass rush, like the Giants way. I see them drafting in the 2nd and 3rd either RB+DE or RB+CB (unless a STUD TE is there at 50, but unlikely). Whaley recently echoed Buddy by saying you have to draft at least one CB every year. -
What now? (Now that McCown is off the table)
maddenboy replied to Uffalo Ills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saw the Locker highlight video. I wish people would put together a Low-lights video. Almost any player can generate a highlight vid. Maybe even somebody like Maybin or Ghoulston. I bet Gabbert has one. -
What now? (Now that McCown is off the table)
maddenboy replied to Uffalo Ills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really thought, when Orton "retired," that he was leveraging. And i'd be happy to have him back. But the way he was playing to avoid injury suggests that he's done. Just needed another $5M to pad his retirement. Done. -
Predict the starting quarterback for week 1..
maddenboy replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bradford. -
Hoyer > Locker > Cassel > Sanchez. Sanchez is . . . dumb. His only success in the NFL was in Philly, in basically a 1-read offense. And he looked okay for a couple games, but couldnt even be consistent in a simple offense. Dumb. Hoyer is a gamer. If Cleveland doesnt want you, that's not an indictment in my book. Locker is pedestrian. Fine. Cassel at least has experience, in multiple systems, so he's mentally flexible. Maybe physically scrubish.

RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
maddenboy replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They will bring in another QB or two Whoever they bring in will not be as a backup. Whoever they bring in will, even must, be someone they think can win the job. So are you really saying that EJ can beat any of the QBs mentioned as possibilities, in a new offense he doesnt know? Or are you saying they will annoint EJ the starter? (I dont think EJ will be the starter on opening day. Coach and FO are not invested in him. And I dont think he will win any QB competition in a new system). -
RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
maddenboy replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but lets flesh it out. If all the QBs are currently backup-quality (and I agree), and we are chasing them / bringing them in, there's only 2 ways to go. We are bringing them in to backup (so why would they leave their current cushy visor-wearing gigs?), or we are bringing them in to UPGRADE the QB position. Bringing them in to possibly start. Which in all, suggests that Whaley/Rex dont believe EJ is the "starter" because it doesnt "feel" like they are chasing McCown et al to backup. They think that other teams' backups can start here. So either you think we are bringing in backups, or we are bringing in potential starters. WHICH IS IT? My main point is that I think Whaley/Rex are bringing in other teams' backups because they are BETTER than what we have. And yes, they have had time to fully evaluate the QB situation. -

maddenboy replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree about competition. In another thread, I argued that we will only bring in "competition" at QB who Whaley/Rex thinks can actually win the starting job. I'm all for it. Which is to say, I dont think they are going out looking for backups. Which brings us full circle. Whaley/Rex dont think EJ is the one. Maybe they hope he can be. But bringing in backups means they are to backup EJ. They arent bringing in backups. -

RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
maddenboy replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Financially, it would be dumb. I concede. For Morale, it might be smart. You are telling the players that you are moving to a Patriots/Seahawks style of evaluation. "We are serious when we say that the best players will play, and if you cant help us, you are out, NO MATTER YOUR DRAFT STATUS." -
RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
maddenboy replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By evaluators, I mean the Pro Scouts. And by now, Rex and Roman have had plenty of time to evaluate tape. In fact, I'd expect that 75% of Rex's time and 90% of Roman's time have been spent evaluating the QB position on the team. And yeah, I'm pretty sure Whaley is in charge of the roster. Rex has influence. If this rumor is out, it is because the evaluations are completed. -
RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
maddenboy replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly, who cares? Fish or cut bait. The best teams in the league are aggressive about cutting dead weight. They trust their evaluators. Not only that, but a team w/out a QB can be forgiven for taking a shot. You have to take shots until you get one. --------- (And I wanted us to draft EJ. When Goodell said "with the 16th pick, the Buffalo Bills select E" that was all I needed. I jumped up off the couch, fist-pumped the air, and for some reason there was excess water in my eyes. I was so happy. But . . . ) -

I wanted us to draft EJ. It was in my TBD sig for over a year after the draft. Even when I made posts in the "EJ hater" category. I wanted it to be clear that I loved him once, but changed my mind. I love Tuel. I love his moxie. I love that he truly understands his job: To deliver the ball to playmakers. Deliver it. If they cut EJ, it would be odd considering they arent paying him much. But (part of the reason i'm labeled an EJ hater) i firmly firmly believe that a QB either has "it" or doesnt. If you have "it" we can develop it. If you dont, you never will. I dont think EJ has "it" -
Bills have the #2 ranked Uniforms in the league.

About 7-8 years ago, Chris Berman pointed out that only 2 teams in North American (major) sports wear Red, White, and Flag Blue. Bills. Montreal Canadians.
