Good eye. So, what's the counter that we should be expecting as defenses watch film? Double-team rushes on Knox's side, then one of the rushers peels back to defend him? Or just putting him on the ground on the way to the qb? (there was a play like this last nite Saints v Fish. Kamara looked like he did this but he stumbled coming off his possibly fake block, and when the ball arrived he was off balance and could not adjust).

yeah. opt out but with zero pay. Its easier to "opt in" out and by "easier" I mean lucrative-er.

Since when can the booth reverse calls?
maddenboy replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Best adjustment I heard on this was about 3 years ago. Proposed: Allow replay review, but the footage must be reviewed at normal speed. Not slow-mo, not freeze-frame, and not reverse play. Make it like another official on the field at the time, but standing somewhere else, would have made a different call. Because the rule (as written) is not to get the call right. If they want the objectively correct result every single time, they can do that, but the games will take 5 hours. (off topic, but it might come to this. because of gambling. The need to get the objectively correct call every single time. I predict this will only happen when live real-time gambling comes online. Something for the gamblers to do during the long delays during replay review) -
[Misleading Title] Dion Dawkins to Covid list
maddenboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
it could be like in Madden, when you suddenly notice the opposing OL numbers 77-79-68-13-65 omg! -
maybe this is an area where JA17 can improve. He has the defense in a no-win situation. We get a big play either way, with a little vet patience. Maybe a pump fake to make that defender choose. Possibly this is also what we will get when we upgrade the pass blocking. But while JA17 is our qb of the future, he still has room to improve.

NFL informs clubs 2022 salary cap projected to be $208.2 million
maddenboy replied to stosh64's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. Its not free money. And all teams have to spend their 25.7 (or at least up to the cap floor). Lots of agents and lots of deals have been done during covid, with the idea that the cap will return to normal. This 25.7 is just moving toward normal, so lots of players will get their wink-nod raises now. The benefit to the Bills is not having to spend it on chasing / gambling on a potential future franchise QB. People like Mitch trubisky are celebrating today. Tyrod Taylor maybe? Sam Darnold. Garrapolo. McBeane, notsomuch. -
Because Davis Mills embraces the fact that his job is to actually throw the ball. To guys who work 365 days per year to be world-class athletes who compete for the ball. Because Davis Mills understands that "NFL-open" is a very real thing and is his actual job to spot and deliver. Because guys who work so hard need to stay motivated to keep blocking and tackling and getting open for a QB who might actually throw the ball. Tyrod imo has always been about doing what's best for his bank account. At some point, maybe even in college, he decided he was going to perfect the craft of earning money as a career backup NFL qb. He is a perfect career backup. imo he doesnt really want to be a starter, but he is professional and shrewd enuf to know that he must always act like he wants to start.

The '21 Bills are sleepwalking to the playoffs
maddenboy replied to Hermes's topic in The Stadium Wall
This thread has moved away from the OP's Sleepwalking idea. Everybody just wants to post his take on playoff chances. wrt Sleepwalking, to me its the idea that you will bump into walls and kick furniture because, with eyes closed, you cant make adjustments and you just are on autopilot. I think that's what we have seen since camp, and why they lost to Pitt in week 1. Pitt spent all offseason (at least the cliches tell us so) preparing for the Bills, and the Bills spent it preparing for KC and then the AFCCG. We seem to take for granted, for months, that everything we have done is for the post-season. There's not much in the way of adjustments so far this season, beyond finally putting Brieda in and changing punt returners. Nobody benched, nobody called out for loafing, no accountability for failing to play NOW. So yeah. Bills have been sleepwalking like a team closing out the string (Jax, Bears, Seahawks, Giants), except the Bills are coasting since August to (what they fully expect to be) the postseason instead of vacation and draft order. -
yes, because i'm with him 24 hours per day. what is your point? Even studying all 22, you are watching maybe routes, but not necessarily technique Even studying 22, you as Qb are doing it for the next opponent, so the 11 on offense are probably not Bills players, and if they are, its from weeks ago.
-
No. A big part of good play calling is knowing what plays your team can and cannot execute. Knowing the strengths of each player. When JA17 studies tape, he is studying the other team. Not his own players. So, not yet. Maybe they begin an offseason with that as an idea, so JA17 can understand everything that's involved. So he can be involved in driving, not just riding, the weekly installations AND the plans going into that.

All-22 Grades for Bills/Saints (The Athletic)
maddenboy replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Until he doesnt. It seems that the O-line woes lead to JA17 playing frustrated. Then playing Hero. He loses patience i think. -
I think if you wanna be a career backup, you have to take every possible chance to act like you wanna start. Even if you dont. If he turned down NYG in this situation, it woulda called his heart and self-confidence into question. And presuming he "turned down" a better offer from the Bills. Which is not likely to have been made.

What is your Buffalo Bills relationship status?
maddenboy replied to cwater10's topic in The Stadium Wall
I woulda chose Shotgun instead of One before we die. Except I'm not looking for escape. After a while in a relationship, the grass is still greener on the other side sometimes, but its nice knowing where you are sleeping every night. And both me and the Bills are incapable of cheating anyway. -
agree with this entirely. Especially since NE has been training to peanut-punch at the ball for at least a month. And i'm shocked that leaked out. Because of this, I expect to see Moss inactive, and Brieda carrying a football with him everywhere he goes this week, including the bathroom and to bed. I see NE running a lot of 2-tight end sets. To make Tremaine Edmundstienberger have to make a lot of decisions. And to try to get an occasional 1v1 on the outside against Tre White's replacement.

back to the OP's topic, the Defense Align (thanks Chris Simms and Rod Woodson) I think the question is whether the rotation we use is paying off in the 4th quarter when our guys are supposed to be fresher. This should be showing up even against the run, because the old saw about how the run game wears down the defense more than the offense (which I have never understood). Are there other teams using a platoon system on the D-Line that we can compare ours to? Because with Tre White out, we need even more to be getting pressure from rushing 4, so we can stay back and cover. At least against good quarterbacks. Which we have coming up.

SNF: Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
maddenboy replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Browns. I want to see them do well after jettisoning OBJ and show people how addition by subtraction works. -
Not sure if It’s coaching , talent , effort, Do youself a favor;
maddenboy replied to DrPJax's topic in The Stadium Wall
You will be angry. That we never fire anybody. Starting with Vernon Butler and our O-line coach. And maybe the RB coach. The problems on run plays are runner (vision) and technique and personnel. And linemen on both sides who somehow end up with their backs turned during the play. But you can skip the first 15 minutes or so, where they are basically drinking beer and shootin' the shtt. -
A Few Thoughts about the Colts game, in no particular order
maddenboy replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
By extension and from other knowledgeable comments over these weeks, it seems our o-line is better at outside blocking than up-the-middle blocking. And i'm pretty sure that the new rule change/emphasis on low-blocks on outside runs were supposed to strongly favor the offense running outside. But since Moss and Motor cant run outside, we are forced to do the thing we are Not better at if we stick with Moss/Motor. Its like volunteering to play left-handed as they say. Instead of waiting for the opponent to do it for us. Hard. Headed. Coaching. Part of coaching is not calling plays you know your team cannot execute. Especially when there's an easy adjustment. -
Its starting to feel like we will miss the playoffs. And be better next year for it. Like when you lose one game badly, and later in the season you say "in hindsight that was a good loss for our team. woke us up." I can hear us in 2022 saying "It sucked like hell to miss the playoffs the year after the AFCCG, but in hindsight, that was just what this team needed. To remember to take every single play seriously, and not just start planning for the playoffs in training camp."

Sean McDermott: A Parallel to the Business World
maddenboy replied to saundena's topic in The Stadium Wall
This made me think. Its like the team started this off-season in the 2022 AFCCG. Even the drafting and offseason front-office moves. But you hear the good, grizzled, veteran coaches who have tasted success multiple time Always remind their teams that each year its a brand new team. Even if its the same players. And they are correct. To the point: Imagine that we won the Superbowl in February in Tampa. Then picture this season's laid back vibes, the goofy practices of JA17 racing backup quarterbacks, the handshakes, the silly McKittrickson videos with prank calls to coaches and teammates, and all the relaxed attitude, and we fans would have known that we had zero chance to repeat because you have to be even hungrier to repeat. You cant start the season in celebration mode. This team seems to expect to flip the switch in January. -
Has the NFL's partnership with gambling ruined your experience?
maddenboy replied to Heels20X6's topic in The Stadium Wall
Commercial breaks. It seems now, more then ever, that there is a break at every. possible. opportunity. for decades we have all known that the reason we get free TV is the advertising. But now, reading this post, I'm thinking the NFL has an incentive to maintain or increase the number of breaks. So we can get our bets in. -
you cannot bench the starting qb mid-game. But you can bench somebody else. Then the leader in your qb will get the message that he is costing other people jobs.
