An Optimist's View of the Bills Collapse

That is one of the finest posts I have read. Bravo! -
Saw this on Espn Insider...puke

If James from Oregon comes out, that guy is faster than Spiller but they have so many other needs. If Richardson or James is the highest on the board than who knows, anything is possible. -
Current Roster better for a 4-3 or 3-4?

Gailey said that no changes had been made with play calling. I really don't blame the coaching. The players all say that the calls are right. They just can't execute because they are hurt and or playing out of their natural position. You can disguise a blitz anyway you want but if you can't beat the man in front of you at the POA no exotic package is going to make up for that. I am sure there are some things Edwards could do to better but to place the blame on his shoulders and read post after post demanding his firing seems absurd. -

I believe that Chan basically tells Edwards we will get killed if we run a 34 without the players. We have to teach them the 34 because we will eventually use it full time. In the meanwhile we have enough players to run a poor mans 43 so lets do that quite a bit just to give us a chance. We have to sprinkle in the 34 as well. We can't really blitz too much because our players are NOT good enough to get through to the qb and our very weak and heavily injured secondary are NOT to be trusted with avoiding giving up the big play. And by the way most of your good players have to play out of their natural position because we have no depth. Teams that hire hot shot DC's are usually successful because the owner and GM are willing to make the commitment to give them what they need to succeed. Edwards does not have that clout. He basically has to turn tap water into rainbows with no sunlight. Good luck with that. -

I can't believe how everyone believes that firing our DC will miraculously make our defense so much improved. The real problem lies within the attempt to abandon a semi successful Tampa 2 (with noted flaws in run defense) to a pure 34. It is like trying to turn fat Jared (pre subway) into Arnold Schwartzeneggar (sp). It ain't happening overnight. It could of happened sooner if we got rid of everyone that didn't fit and draft and pay good money for players that did. We decided to build through the draft and run our hybrid 34 43 joke of a defense where we don't have the players to be successful at either. No DC can succeed with this situation (not even Wade Phillips). Until we have a true NT and at least 1 good OLB (I still hold out hope for Merriman) and quality depth we will never be successful. I am not totally against letting Edwards go at seasons end but he will sadly be a martyr to a front office and owner that are willing to let the team go a few more years without winning in the hopes to rebuild a long term foundation for success. Flame away! -
I think it is hard to compare our offensive line with Wood and Bell to what CJ has to work with. You can also factor all the injuries to wide receiver making our offense more run based. It is very possible that CJ will not succeed but it may not be totally his fault. I like his speed and athleticism and believe he has made great strides this year but I would be pleasantly surprised if he can overcome all the adversity in front of him. I always think positive and hope for the best. I don't think anyone wants our beloved Bills to fail. We are just being rational based on what we see but everyone is pulling for him.

the center position
Chris in Syracuse replied to nashvillebills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am thinking early rounds. Maybe 3 or 4. Wood has proven he cannot be trusted. I would seriously start looking for a replacement and trade him for some value. He is a good player but just can't stay on the field. He is no good to us on IR. -
Why isn't Bell starting at LT?
Chris in Syracuse replied to Chris in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope you are right. -
Chan didn't expand on why Hairston will start at LT. Is Bell still hurt or are they just fed up with his injuries and hoping Hairston can do the job so they can cut Bell at the end of the season? I liked the way Bell was playing and want to see him on the field. Thoughts?

Sheppard, Moats to play more
Chris in Syracuse replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McKelvin did play poorly but, you have to apply pressure on the qb or any qb will eat any cb for lunch. I think Mckelvin is totally being scapegoated for something that is not entirely his fault. He was burned cleanly once but the rest of the times I thought he had solid coverage. -
Prediction Thread

If Merriman gets a few sacks we win 38-35. If we put no pressure on Brady we lose 41-14. I think we win in a shoot out putting a little pressure on Brady 38-35 by a last play field goal! -
I don't see him playing any full games. He will be a situational pass rusher in the beginning and as his stamina and health hopefully increases he may be ready for full time duties by mid season. I think he will stay healthy enough to play if they use him wisely. IF he goes full from game one than he will be on the IR by week 4,

Bills-Broncos Official Game Thread

It is hard playing with the cast I bet. I still have hope for him. -
The whole line looks out of sink. There are times when he may be expecting TE help but chandler goes somewhere else. He is not a terrible LT but needs some TE help. He is not like Peters and can't be trusted on an island. I wish we had that type of LT but we don't.

If they are not calling holds, someone should tell Bell, then he might have a chance. -

Hangartner on his way out?
Chris in Syracuse replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That makes a lot of sense. The big question is can Urbick play. He may have the size and nastiness but does he have the technique? Can he develop in such a shortened amount of time . I would rather start a smaller, weaker, but more fundamentally solid player than what Urbick has shown us thus far. We still have a few weeks before the regular season so lets see. I don't have the stats in front of me but is Rheinhart more that mold? Who would be better if Urbick can't handle it? If Urbick and Rhenhart prove their worth than Hangartner becomes expendable. -
Lee Evans playing well in Baltimore
Chris in Syracuse replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he really said that he wanted to be traded than I agree Nix did the right thing. He had a chance to produce last year and didn't. NE trades players while they still have value. I like that philosophy. He didn't show enough in camp to warrant us keeping him and if he does not want to be here (like whitner) we don't want him! -
Hangartner on his way out?
Chris in Syracuse replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is very possible. I would be disappointed if they did. He really belongs playing guard in place of Urbick. He has the most experience out of all our lineman. At the very least he can back up both guard and center positions. I think Nix wants to give Urbick and Rheinheart a chance first. If we don't see some results look for more changes. I think he stays simply because everyone else is sub par. If Urbick and Rheinheart played great you might be right. My only question is if they cut Hangartner who is your center back up?
