asu is a really nice school...love Boone..and they have a well respected football program in these parts...I bet buddy is familiar with it since he's a chattanooga guy. I'm not that familiar with these players but the bills used to make a living off small school finds.Appalachian State Alum here.Have watched Edwards play 100% of his college games, about 95% live.
One of, if not the most exciting players I have ever seen. People will make the comparison to Vick, but I see him as more of a Doug Flutie type. Most likely the best wildcat prospect in the draft.
Ran a mid to low 4.4 40 time yesterday and could be called more quick than fast.
IMHO worth a mid to late round shot. Is more than willing to give receiver, special teams a try.
Been called on more than one occasion, 1-aa's version of Tim Tebow.

speaking of low expectations....most here concede a very bad year (or two or three) in order to rebuild...thats a pretty effective defense mechanism as well...and if you expect very little in free agency (many here actually argued that free agent signings would be a bad thing) any signing is a reason for celebration. I think the "pessimsts" here actually have higher hopes than the delusional fans but they are cognizant of the fiscal realities of a rw owned team.Yeah, but it's safe and a great defense mechanism. When you're a pessimist, if the teams does well you can say "hey, they did better than I thought," while if they do poorly, it's "see, I told you so!" -

you wouldn't take 1 superbowl and out right now for the bills?Holmgren's inability to draft worth a crap means he had to turn to freea agency with Paul Allen's check book nothing was off limits and the leaked into a super bowl with a bought veteran team one year run and out. I suspect he will do the same with the browns as far as try to buy veterans. This approach rarely works but do to his short comings with the draft what else can he do. Lets see his first and second round picks as the "football man" for seattle four years at the gm role total record of 31-33First rounders -Shaun Alexander, Chris McIntosh,Koren Robinson, Steve Hutchinson,Jeremy Stevens, LaMar King
Second rounders-Ike Charlton,Ken Lucas, Maurice Morris, Anton Palepoi
1999 resigns Sinclair,
2000 signs Reggie Tongue, and MLB George Koonce and Trades Ahman Green lets Sam Adams and Phillip Daniels leave
2001 signs John Randle, DT Chad Eaton, LB Levon Kirkland QB Trent Dilfer, WR Bobby Ingram, S Marcus Robertson......Cortez Kennedy released
2002 signs Doug Evans, Mark Rypien ,Jerry Wunsch, Jeff George, Ryan Lief, Brandon Mitchell,....Sinclair released and Levon Kirkland released
8 players were of Holmgren doing 6 draft picks 2 FA
His talent evaluating is terrible and he won't have any success in Cleveland
But a few guys on here know his name so he must be a genius right?
-
LOL man do your homework before making statements like this. Holmgren hasn't done much recently. Holmgren was the GM in Seattle up until he lost that responsibility in 2002. He went to the superbowl in 2005 as a HC.
Parcells doesn't spend money on free agents. he has done more with less in Dolphins. He managed to find a coach worth something.
so you'd rather have buddy than either of them and you trust his judgement more because.....why exactly?. and they got dansby for free i guess.
-
what measure would you propose? net income?wins at the end of next year will hardly tell who is doing a better job. -
Yea, just ask Washington how that works out.
yea, parcells and holmgren have never won anything...what do they know?...we have chan and buddy-can't go wrong
-
it probably is the $, but im not particularly impressed with either of those team's moves.
there a lot of free agency left, and I bet we make a lot more moves after the draft.
we don't need to hurry up and sign/trade for overpriced so-so older players that will create new holes in a couple years.
i'm confident the FO has a plan - too bad it doesn't include trading for Shaun Hill
why is everyone so concerned with rw's money? He's got plenty and much of it from the long suffering bills fans. I don't think he'll get any prize for dying with a few million more. From him it's expected but why do fans like you care, especially in an uncapped season?
-
i'm not sure why you think we are "sitting on our hands doing nothing." we may be, but news flash- buffalo (bills-wise) is not an attractive destination, so its not like FAs/agents and calling off the hook trying to get here
based no how many players we've been scouting for the upcoming draft, i have to assume we are at least pursuing some of these free agents as well, and i'm sorry if PFT or however you get your news doesn't report that "so-and-so declined to meet with the bills bc there's no chance he would sign there."
I'm not sold on Tredwards but delhomme is done and i doubt quinn is the answer
and LT...please
so how are cleveland and detroit doing it. maybe the players think more of holmgren than chan or buddy but I'll bet it's primarily the money their offered.
-
I don't understand why you're saying they only went 5-11. They won 6 games.
5-11 is correct if they had played indy's first team in a game that meant something.
-
And Brainiac thinks we can hold a gun to their heads and make them sign
seems to work for cleveland

the strategy is to make as much money as possible. They have the numbers from past experience over many years as to how many fans will pay to see an absolutely awful team. They compare the loss of revenue to the gain in player and coaching payroll cuts and have determined that they come out ahead fielding an abysmal team.I've read numerous complaints that other teams are getting better in our division, and that the Bills are doing nothing. I get the distinct impression that the people running the show at One Bills Drive are totally willing to fail in 2010. I really believe they will draft to fill out as many positions as possible, and then play who we have, regardless of whether or not we're missing starting caliber guys at various positions - they'll just pick them up in next year's draft, and if we have one of the worst teams this year, then that much better pick in next year's draft.O.k., here are my issues with the approach they seem to be taking. Since when is the nfl about sacrificing this year for next? How many people are going to pay those prices to go and watch a team that deliberately isn't doing everything it can to succeed? Miami showed, as did Atlanta - the Jets, that a team can turn around a lot in one off-season with the right guys running the show. Now, there is a lot of time between now and the regular season; maybe there is a real plan in place for the draft. Maybe they think they can fill our holes merely with college guys. But, it's beginning to look, especially with free agents coming and then going and signing elsewhere - that the team isn't serious about competing in 2010, that they'll be content waiting to see if there is football next year and then going the draft route.
One other thing. If your plan is to rebuild through the draft, why not trade some future picks and some odd-fitting personnel to get as many guys from college this year, so that they can develop together?
-
Lousy Ralph, if only he'd go spend $130M a year like Oakland, Washington, and Chicago...
or the vikings, saints and cowboys..we're back to the necessary and sufficient condition...big spending appears necessary but not sufficient for on the field success in todays NFL
-
i think this might have been meant as a dig at the "be patient", "keep the faith" crowd and I couldn't agree more. If rw really cared about winning, it's now or never in actuarial terms...he would be spending like a drunken sailor (or even like the jets) just to have a chance to have a winning franchise before he dies. "long term plan" is not an option at 92 and since he's stated he's gonna sell on his death you can't argue that it's being planned for then, either. Face it, the bills on field success is a low priority for ralph despite what he says publicly. Another explanation is that he, unlike many here, doesn't believe it possible to field a winner before he dies so why waste the money.Stoked or stoned? -
he has to at least give the appearance that he's attempting to acheive mediocrityIf anything Ralph should be pissed. 98 million for what. Where is the talent ? My god what a waste of money . -
The cuts are going to continue. Teams are now installing budgets in place of the cap. Those budgets will be tighter than any of the cap rules. I think the owners are trying to send a message.
and that suits rw just fine

another implication in the Cleveland signings is that valuable players CAN be brought into struggling clubs in unglamorous towns. Fujita, of course, comes from the sb winner and goes to a perennial loser for, in his words, "the bottom line". This dispels the myth that the Bills can't sign valuable FA's due to their record and location.I think these three affect us the most:1) Delhomme to CLE
2) Kennedy to MIN
3) KC Signs Thomas Jones to KC - RBF priority from 4 to 9
Cleveland's signing of Delhomme, Watson, and Fujita could signal that CLE is not going for QB until next year and Clausen falls to us. It also signals that Eric Berry is a more likely CLE pick than a week ago, and the signing of Fujita ILB means that it's less likely that they take McClain with their first pick. Result? Clausen and/or McClain fall to the Bills.
Kennedy going to MIN means that their #62 pick might now be negotiable (that's where we had MIN taking Brian Price; I still think they will target Jermaine Gresham TE in the first round.
KC won't be drafting Spiller in the first round with the signing of Thomas Jones, so I think Spiller is also there where we pick. I don't think an OT in RD2 would be good value for KC or the Bills, so KC may likely take their LT in RD1 (Okung/Campbell) and spoil our party there.
Other Signings/Trades and Their Possible Implications:
CLE now likely they pass on Hernandez in RD2 (Hernandez may now fall to NE*)
IND signs Adam Terry - Needs reshuffled now that OT is deprioritized; will now likely take DE in RD1--Griffen or Wootton
BUF signs Joe Klopfenstien - TE priority from 5 to 6; now likely no TE in RD5 (Moeaki, Pitta, Peek, Dickerson)
NYJ signs FS Brodney Pool - FS priority from 2 to 3; Earl Thomas FS more and more looks like he'll end up in New Orleans
PIT signs Ryan Clark - FS priority from 3 to 4; same result --Thomas to New Orleans
PHI signs Marlin Jackson - FS priority from 1 to 3; same result --Thomas to New Orleans
CIN signs Roy Williams (the safety); same result --Thomas to New Orleans
CIN signs Antonio Bryant - WR priority from 2 to 4; CIN won't go with McCluster in RD2, may like to deal this pick
BAL signs Derrick Mason - WR priority from 6 to 9; they have such few picks they need DE in RD1--Odrick?
MIN signs Benny Sapp - CB priority from 2 to 3; likely to go offense and take OG Iupati but could go Griffen or Thomas
ATL and DET swap 5th round picks/ATL gets DET 6th Rounder - Chris Houston trade: ATL gets CB in RD6 (Ross,Wall) - DET takes DT early (Suh RD1), then RB (Best, Hardesty RD2), OG (Jerry/Asamoah/Johnson RD3), OT (Fox RD4), SS(Chancellor RD5)
HOU signs OT Wade Smith: May drop a OT to us in RD3 but unlikely
Signings unlikely affecting the Bills:
ARI signs OG Rex Hadnot
TEN signs CB Rod Hood
IND signs OG Andy Alleman

+6Man, for missing the playoffs for a decade, this FO sure gets a lot of free passes. Switching to 3-4 but no NT, no problem. Signing Cornell Green - good move. -
You are correct that the Bills have no foundation in place to start with but you are not going to build it through FA. You need to draft correctly, which the old management hasn't , and fill in the pieces with FA's. I don't think the Bills sign guys and overpay them just to fill spots. I think they believe they will help the team. We will not know until after next season.
no doubt there trying to help the team with this move but it seems with moves like this they are content in going from awful to just bad. After 10 years of sheit, is that enough for you? maybe this kinda signing is the best they can do but they could at least publicly try a little harder to attract some names that even people on this board don't have to google to identify.

I guess based on everyone's thinking that you can't get good players from crappy teams, the Saints were stupid for getting Greer. The Bills suck and didn't bring him back. Why get him. Why should the Pats look at Reed? He was on a crappy Bills team.
the good teams have the luxury of looking at role players to add to their established nucleus and some of them wash out. no big deal if you are good to start with. It is a big deal if you're trying to rebuild with little foundation. these players haven't made the bad team they're coming from winners. are they likely to do that for the Bills? But, they might make a good team better. less likely, they make a bad team a bit better but overall: the rich get richer, the bills get poorer.
-
teams with .500 or below records make up over 56% of all teams/players....so why would we limit our search to the minority of players available???
and there's no reason to limit yourself to the losers either, unless........that's all you can get

I finally feel like we have people in charge of this organization that aren't just trying to make fans happy and sell tickets. Buddy Nix wasn't a popular pick, Chan Gailey wasn't a popular pick and so far we haven't signed some huge name to make fans all giddy.
T.O. was that move last year and in the past we overpaid lineman, traded for Drew Bledsoe, Rob Johnson, etc. and now it seems like they might really be trying to put a team together that THEY feel they can win.
I have no idea what approach Gailey is going to take with the offense or defense (don't just say 3-4 because you don't know what the exact plans are). With that being said I think they are getting and keeping players they feel fit there scheme. I am trusting them because everything else this team has tried the last 10 years and gotten us no where.
I am glad that we are signing no bodies and doing what they feel they need to to build depth and a team they think they can win with. Finally it seems like selling tickets is on the back burner and winning games might be #1 in line.
Oh and yea I did renew my season tickets over the weekend and never thought twice about it.
uh huh. These moves definitely illustrate a new philosophy and commitment to winning. Who needs top tier, established, widely coveted players, management and coaches? Conventional wisdom is for losers. We just need a little luck as rw likes to remind us. Unfortunately, he's had bad luck in about 2/3 of his seasons and he doesn't appear ready to make any drastic changes to turn that luck. Why should he if people buy season tickets after a show of such pathetic effort (ie spending) to improve? "Buffalo will support a loser as well as any city"(rw, SI, 1969)

yup, that and the bandwagon fallacy (argumentum ad populum) are favorites here. You could direct a course on logical fallacies using a few posters here as textbook examples. Negativism is rarely popular even if based on strong premises but from your reply, I'll wager you can hold your own in an argument.
-
link?Perhaps because he said he didn't want to be here and said he would sit out if we tendered him. Just guessing............. -
You're right - Washington has made big moves for years and they are terrible. Indy makes almost no moves every year and is a perennial winner. I can only remember one big move the Pats made in the past few years and they haven't won a SB since.
so, you're saying boldin wouldn't help us? Would you be upset if the bills were in the running for him? Are you happy that those fools in ne are?
