  1. and you think this is a good thing? did you cheer for RJR in "the insider"? it's like a scene from "1984" where the audience cheers the ministry of peace propaganda war films showing enemies killed....sound familiar? but at least you'll be cheering for the winning side.
  2. must admit, i had the same thought. for once, we agree.
  3. kinda easy to shoot the messenger isn't it? why not hold your anger til we know what's actually happened or not happened?
  4. what's more likely is that specialty reimbursement would decrease.
  5. did she recommend a testosterone test? yup, bet that's why you're pi$$ed.
  6. yes, because medicare reimbursement is so exhorbitant....actually reimbursement would need to change to encourage needed workforce increases in primary care.
  7. good question. i'd think current medicare benefits would be great with exclusions for any elective procedures and algorithms to describe work ups/treatment s of the most common complaints/ailments with a safe harbor for docs if thet follow such algorithms. also, generic drugs only unless clear and definitive evidence of superior outcomes for nongenerics. there'd be much more but that's a good start.
  8. we could build mario williams from spare parts and clone him 20 times, then cure cancer...or maybe just provide basic care for all americans
  9. i'm not surprised some alternative opinions have now surfaced (jason recher needs to get a calender though- 2001?). and i agree that schmidt has an axe to grind. i wasn't aware of 4 of the 25 hbo consultants have rescinded their approval of the movie. your link doesn't mention their names. i suspect that not everything was portrayed in the way that everyone remembers. some could be absolute fiction. but read the couric interview transcript and tell me with a staight face that palin had any right even being considered for a job that's a heartbeat away from the presidency.
  10. i'm not convinced she hurt the campaign...pretty certain she would have hurt the country but it's implied they would have tried to keep her on a short leash. the scary thing to me is that she may have helped by shoring up the base. in my mind, that implies very bad judgement on the bases part. sorry, but comparing obama to palin is just silly. articulate us senator, ivy league law degree, well versed on complicated national and international issues versus mayor of a small town, governer of alaska who reportedly didn't know the function of the federal reserve. i will watch the netflix feed with special interest on how schmidt and wallace are portrayed. and i didn't take that as the main scene of the movie. i thought the scenes illustrating palin's complete lack of knowledge were much more important.
  11. maybe yall should actually see it before passing judgement? i came away with a new found respect for mccain. palin , as anyone with a shred of objectivity knew, was as clueless as most of her followers (i went back and read the transcript of the couric interview ). it painted her as a loving mom with too much ambition for her own good and way too little knowledge. concerning the choice to only use a portion of the book, i think it boils down to viewers and demographics. is it really a big story that hillary could be a sullen B word? that john edwards was contemptible? are they likely to ever run for elected office again? it looks like the hbo execs were right: plenty of viewers and even more buzz. lastly, it's not partisan if it's true. the criticism i've seen right wing partisan commentators make about this movie is not it's accuracy but how upset they are that campaign staff could be disloyal...as if they are the paramount of virtue.
  12. anybody seen it? read the book it's based on? i thought it was captivating (the movie, haven't read the book yet). not sure how historically accurate the insider stuff was but the producers stated that 25 insider consultants independently confirmed most of the scenes. 2 of the main characters, steve schmidt and nicole wallace have fully endorsed the authenticity of the depiction. the real indictment in the movie is of the game itself. cynical and calculating shouldn't be the most important attributes of president makers but we all know they are. this movie just brings it to life with the production quality i've come to expect from hbo.
  13. just watched it again. it gets better with age. favorite line: "perfectly formed udders...are they smelly?" the kid actors are fantastic. never cared for sacha whatever but i thought he was very good in this. still trying to forgive him for his mean spiritedness in some of his skits: making fun of very friendly and open, square dancers in one that i saw but they remained kind and made him look the fool. anyway, some redemption for him in this movie.
  14. have had a carolina brewery beer once or twice - excellent! so the actual place is in chapel hill? thanks for the tips. may have to miss some of the morning sessions on Friday...
  15. it was very simple. we ate what we killed. revenues - expenses.
  16. converting health insurance savings to wages...maybe even a tax break for doing it.
  17. legislation...people like marcy kaptur, jim webb, olympia snowe. you know...the good guys.
  18. forgot it's a friday in lent. not much seafood at beyu. a unc grad i know mentioned "squids"...anybody been there recently (he's an old timer)? thinkin beyu for dessert and music after.
  19. i'll admit that sometimes things get out of balance. that doesn't necessarily mean that there shouldn't be a higher minimum wage. and btw, if we had national health care and small companies didn't have to pay 6-10k a year for employee health insurance, better wages could be paid. of course some aholes would just take more profit unless forced otherwise.
  20. Maybe people appreciate hard work more when they're paid fairly?
  21. there was no shortage of suitors to do it. they just wanted to limit our choices to funds with expense ratios of 1% or more.
  22. + comprehensive health, dental, vision and 401k with generous match. all told, lowest was well over $30k. so you shut the f^&* up. btw, had a hell of a time finding an investment co to oversee the 401k that would offer index funds. now why is that?
  23. not exactly. i'm paid on rvu's - piecework, if you will. if reimbursement goes down, then so will my rvu rate at the next contract negotiation.
