Who cares who is better? They both look to be pretty good. Fred is a awesome veteran at 30 and CJ since he has actually been given carries appears to be flipping a big middle finger to the "he's a bust" before he ever got a chance crowd. These posts are silly. All it does is develop animosity for the "other" guy. Lets keep em both and worry about our lack of pass rush, quality WRs, LT ad RT.
-
Agreed 100%. Sign Freddy for something that makes sense and use he and spiller together, not necessarily at the same time, to keep both of them healthy. Whichever one has the hot hand lean towards them a little bit more. Make Freddie the "officail #1" so he doesn't get his panties in a twist and use two of what seem to be our best weapons outside of SJ when he isn't dropping balls that hit him in the hands when he is wide open.
-
Let's not get crazy here. Freddie is still a more complete back due to his power, his blocking and his experience. The problem is that he is going to be 31. When everyone ran Lynch out of town did they NOT think that the Bills would need to spend a high draft pick to replace him? Freddy's age and health have proven that one back is not enough. What if we were in the play off hunt or locked up a play off spot? We would be screwed anyway because he got hurt again at the end of the year.

Just for the record CJ is the same height and 6lbs heavier than Chris Johnson. They are both pretty good in my opinion. Now that Jackson is on IR Gailey has been FORCED to use CJ and he is getting better every week. He has been putting up better and better numbers and he has done it without Eric Wood our best offensive lineman by far and also the leader and brains of that line. When will Bills fans stop with this one sucks and the other is the best ever stuff. Freddie is damn good and CJ is proving to be damn good. How about we quit bitching about who is better and be glad we have them both and challenge the front office to use all of our good players to win games.

HAhAHAHahaHhaHahAHhHhahaHAhhahhAH! For a guy who will be 31 by the 2012 season. Man they need to share some of what they are on. No disrespect to Freddie but that is just crazy. If he was 5 years younger that would be a possibility. If he was 5 years younger we would have already resigned him ourselves.
-
I really don't want to lose Jackson. He is VERY talented despite his age. Bad teams get better by keeping their good talent and upgrading their bad talent. I don't know how much you get in trade for what will be a 31 year old RB.
-
Let Freddie be the #1 in name. Spiller has already proven to be a character guy who made ZERO waves when Fred got indignant about possibly being displaced as the starter. Give Freddie 12 - 15 carries a game and give Spiller at least 10. If either develops a "hotter hand" during the course of the game adjust accordingly.
-
There isn't a single team in the NFL that only needs one RB. Especially a 30 year old who will be 31 next year and wants, deservedly so, to get paid. Having two is NOT a luxury. I repeat. NOT a luxury. It is a necessity. Spread offense or not we need 2 guys. Spread doesn't mean you aren't going to run the ball. Spread means you run a spread formation which we are very effective running the ball out of when the RB doesn't receive first contact behind the line of scrimmage. I do agree we need WRs. Again instead of keeping talent like Lee Evans for our spread offense we let him go and have a collection of IR reserve and practice squad players for Fitz to throw to.
-
I definitely don't agree with getting rid of Freddie. Sign him to a contract appropriate for what will be a 31 year old RB in 2012 and use BOTH he AND Spiller. Maybe that way Freddie won't end up missing the last games of the season like the last 2 years. When your #1 is going to be 31 you can't run him into the ground when you have a kid on the bench that has been getting better every game behind our mediocre O-line who is missing it's best player Eric Wood. I to find it idiotic and disgusting that people are calling Spiller a luxury pick and a bust when he wasn't given a chance on the field. Well lookie lookie. The kid gets on the field and get's better every week. He's averaging 5 yards per carry and had 7.6 against a supposedly good Miami rushing D. Keeping this weapon on the bench and riding Freddie into the ground was dumb. The only good thing about Freddy's injury is that the Bills had no "Choice" but to play Spiller. If Freddy never goes down we could have had ourselves another Maybin situation where we now get to see the guy sack and pressure the crap out of us 2 weeks a year. If Spiller never got these chances we might have gotten rid of him only to watch him tear it up like every other RB we have gotten rid of because morons on this board keep calling for their heads and run them out of town. Speaking of Choice. We don't want to run Spiller into the ground either but why is he in on so many plays? When Freddy was the man all of the rest of the RBs got a total of about 3 carries per game. Now that Spiller is the man Choice is on the field all the time despite CJ out performing him by 5.0 to 3.0 yards per carry. Ridiculous.

So where is SJ's head when he drops TDs and long bombs that hit him in the hands with nobody withing 8 yards of him? Not even talking about last years drops just this years.

Isn't he already a team captain? -
Building through the draft only works if you sign and keep the good talent that you draft and develop. Good teams keep their good talent and use the draft to replace the bad talent. Buffalo does almost the opposite. Bad teams keep the bad talent because they are good bargains and replace the good talent because we won't pay fair market value for their skills.

I think Sheppard starting says two things. They feel he is good enough and has enough upside to start. The second thing it probably says is that he is the best we have to offer anyway.
-
Again, he's a 3rd round pick rookie. What were you expecting year 1?

I do fault the Bills for not giving a 1st round pick significant time on the field. There are indeed scheme players like 4-3 vs 3-4 DE's. Very different players. That being said I think Maybin works on any team that needs a 3-4 OLB pass rush specialist. Coincidentally we have a rather desperate need for that right now. Dareus who is currently playing NT and faces double teams every single play is basically the only guy generating pass rush for us. I could almost excuse the lack of pass rush with the other players if they were stout run defenders. SADLY they aren't that either! -

There we go again. Excusing our mistakes by claiming that Maybin with the opportunity and coaching couldn't produce the same kind of performance here. That's BS. I don't mean to be a jerk but what superior defensive talent do the jets have? I'll give you their secondary no doubt but good players are good players and bad players are bad players. Sometimes good players play badly but bad players are always bad players. In other words Maybin isn't some bum the Jets coached up. He's a good player that is on a team that actually gave him a chance and put him on the field not because of some far superior talent they have on defense. He is not a role player that gets significant playing time around these "far superior players" for the Jets. This guy is a difference maker with 6 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. I know it's a team game and a team defense but those numbers would make him one of our best players statistically. -

People need to admit that they were !@#$ wrong about calling him a bust before he got a chance to play on the field. Since nobody ever admits being wrong about anything people keep bringing up the same issues over and over again. Maybe if people actually admitted THE BILLS screwed up not utilizing Maybin properly and that Shawn "Good Gamble" Merriman was anything but that these threads die. Once everyone sees and admits the truth of the matter bringing this stuff up goes away. Saying "get over it" is also a cop out. Who says people aren't over it but are showing how one organization did the right thing and is getting the most out of this guy. If we "just get over it", learn nothing and ignore our mistakes we are DOOMED TO REPEAT THEM. I think we have a pretty obvious record of repeating past mistakes. So lighten up Francis. Admit that we screwed the pooch and lets try not to do it again in a year or two with somebody else. It's all about keeping the good ones and replacing the bad ones. Until we start to do that as an organization we will never be a winning franchise again. -

Fitz Has Possibly Had A Broken Rib Since Toronto?
PDaDdy replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the real question is why doesn't Fitz have any WRs to throw to? For the last few weeks he has been throwing to his #1 SJ, his #6 David Nelson and his wild cat QB Brad Smith. WR's #2 through #5 have been traded away or are currently on IR and started dropping from day 1. It's not like we had a great WR core to begin with. A little thing called chemistry is difficult to develop with the revolving door or crap he has to throw to. Might be nice if the offensive line could provide a little help now and again. -
It is what it is man. Many other teams do it as well but it seems we make wrong choices often enough. Everyone, myself included, wants to be a arm chair GM. We always do this stuff. I wanted Terrance Cody in that draft at that spot. He's the starting NT for the damn good Ravens defense now and Troup has ...well...been Troup. We always take the wrong guy and sometimes we seem to make it even worse after that! Orakpo was the far and away favorite top DE in the draft yet we decided to get a 8 game wonder, undersized DE with a quick first step. We then compounded the mistake by never giving the guy playing time and released him. Now we get to watch him sack our QB twice a year because the Jets actually put him in a game and wonders of wonders he can actually produce sacks. Good thing we got Shawne "Good Deal" Merriman which made Maybin expendable. And over and over and over again.
-
I thought we were asking what QB he looked like not how successful the teams they are on were? I know you watch enough football and understand that the QB is one guy on a team. Sand Diego has been a much better TEAM than the bills. Obviously they are 2 different QBs but I was considering the parallel watching the game yesterday. Rivers was getting beat up in the press and was tossing INTs all over the place. Funny things was he didn't have anyone to throw the ball to. Now his guys are healthy again and wonders of wonders he looks like a good QB again. I then look at Fitz and all of his fair weather fans who are ready to rip up his contract and run him out of town for the same reason. Seriously. Look at the junk he has to throw with. #1 SJ, #6 David Nelson and Option QB Brad Smith? What QB wouldn't be struggling with those targets. Let's not forget he has to get rid of the ball in 2 seconds on top of that.
-
Oddly enough he reminds me of Phillip Rivers. When all of Rivers' WR and TE Gates were hurt he looked bad. The chargers lost 5 or so in a row. Rivers was throwing interceptions and people were questioning whether he was a good QB or not. I can't help but see the parallels in that regard. Fitz looked like a probowler to start the season until his #2, #3, #4 and #5 WRs went on IR or were traded away. Let's not even mention the difference between our o-line and San Diego. Where are all of the "we have a really good o-line" guys now? Pathetic. Harriston and whatever bum they were spelling him with were turn styles. Fitz was under pressure for most of the day and half the time there was supposed to be a hole to run through the RB was getting tackled while he was taking the hand off. I don't know what some people think with the crap he has to work with right now. His WR core is Stevie Johnson who is great at getting open and making catches but can't out run anybody. Brad Smith who is an option QB and David Nelson who I like but was #6 on the depth chart but was forced into playing duty. The Amish make nice furniture but they can't spin flax into gold and they can't polish turds into diamonds.

Building The Offense NOW should be the Focus and the Priority
PDaDdy replied to Juror#8's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hears ya. We have the need for speed. Instead we traded away Lee Evans(4.3), Roscoe Parrish(4.3) goes on IR every year and Marcus Easely(4.3) has yet to play a game for us if I am not mistaken due to injuries for the last 2 years. We need guys that can "go up top, 999". What we have right now are a bunch of guys we pulled off the street and SJ. NOT a recipe for success. I have always been an offensive guy and I wouldn't hate it if we spent our #1 pick on a WR that could start and contribute day 1. I wouldn't be pissed if we got some real help on the oline. That all being said we need pass rushers in the WORST way. Some help stopping the run would be nice too. If our defense could prevent our offense from getting into a shootout we would force opposing offenses to throw the ball minimizing any weakness at run defense so I don't value it quite as highly. -
Building The Offense NOW should be the Focus and the Priority
PDaDdy replied to Juror#8's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did you watch the beginning of the season when we actually had healthy WRs? Currently the only guys we have left from when we started the season are #1 SJ, #6 David Nelson, #7 Brad Smith who is actually a QB and a bunch of bums off the street. Offense is NOT by any stretch of the imagination our biggest problem. Does it need to get better? Sure. We could use an actual #2 WR and some help on the o-line would be great. That being said our defense is horrible. We get behind and the coaching staff thinks we need to throw the ball every down making us one dimensional which takes away from the running game which is a big strength for us.
