Vikings testing waters with Tarvaris Jackson
PDaDdy replied to Billadelphia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ROFLOL!!!! Did he get an arm transplant that allows him to throw with some velocity on the ball? I have perhaps been to hard on Edwards. I have thought that he doesn't have the balls to throw down field. The more I think about it he probably just knows his limitations. He has a weak arm and the issue is he can't throw down the field not that he doesn't want to. It will never happen but Travaris has an NFL arm, showed some pocket presence and has some athleticism and "escape-ability". -
Clark Judge on Demetrius Bell, Lee Evans and T.O

Don't you mean Machine Gun Kelly? The guy with an actual big time NFL arm? Or, are we talking about Trentative "Noodle Arm" Edwards? -
Jonathan Stupar. Technically it would be a surprise because what team cuts it's best looking most productive TE? Other surprise cut is Chris Kelsay. Not sure what we could use the money on but he is a waste of it.

Trent Edwards Yards Per Completion Stats
PDaDdy replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know if this is on Trent or the play calling but I would contend that our WRs actually don't have many chances to make plays. Trent waits until a WR is wide open to throw them the ball. With the low velocity on his passes the defenders have plenty of time to adjust and tackle the WR as the ball gets there if not make a play on the ball and deflect it for an interception. -

Using NFL.com and excel I did run the stats. In 2008, (preseason is meaningless argument out the window), Trent was 23rd in the league at exactly 11 yds per reception. Of the worst 10 on that list Trent was the only starting QB to not have at least 3000yds! -

Wow. Good catch s122!!! At first read I thought reddogblitz was being sarcastic. Until I read your response, I just assumed it was a joke thinking "how could he possibly be serious?" -

Right....statistically irrelevant. The sample size is too small to be a good indicator. Don't get me wrong. TO WILL help this team but unless he played 3 or 4 games for significant time, 2 catches in the hall of fame game isn't really telling me much. -

That's only relevant if other teams starting QBs throw for fewer yards per completion than their backups. I could be wrong but it seems the Bills are the only team in that position. If we compared starters to starters Trent would look even worse!!!! -

What did Trent do so great to win those games? To me for a QB to win a game he's got to throw for 250 - 350 yds and 2 - 3 TDs with at least one of them being a "how did he get of that and make that td pass?". It's rare when a single guy can win a game for you but it's much more common that a single guy can LOSE you a game for you. -

How many receptions was that based on? I've got a sneaky feeling that it is completely statistically irrelevant due to low sample size. Nice try to use statistics to deceive -

That's the thing about worrying. You worry in expectation of something bad to happen. Hence people worry about the regular season that has yet to happen based on his preseason performance. Once it ACTUALLY DOES HAPPEN no use worrying about it. You just have to ACCEPT. Accept that Trent is a checkdown artist and start looking at free agents and to the 2010 draft. -
I have been trying to become a better student of the game. If anyone is better versed in the actual X's and O's please help. It seems to me by design our safeties are rendered nearly useless. The back safety who I will assume is the free safety appears to be so deep that their only value is tackling someone after a 15 yard pickup. Isn't one of the benefits of the cover 2 that you have safety help deep? Shouldn't this allow our CB to play tighter or even bump and run coverage on opposing WRs? Why do I see LBs covering WR's and getting burned on 3rd downs? By the numbers our defense is respectably ranked in the top half of defenses but it looks like they could be so much better!

I for one can truly say I was not burned last year by the false hope. I thought it was a great start but I also looked at the quality of who we beat and the injuries problems they had going on the week we happened to play them. This year my expectations are/were higher than last year. My HUGE problem with maintaining my optimism is that Trent looks even worse than the last 2/3s of last year. My expectations of Maybin were realistically optimistic. What lit me up was his first play on the field. He drew double coverage from the left side of the Steelers line! A few plays later he gets a sack. One week of practice and I noticed the kid on the field. GOOD START!!! Now lets keep it going!!!! -
The Bills are not bad --- they did not game plan
PDaDdy replied to spartacus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right on. I hear ya. We could be practicing some great stuff that we just haven't shown on the field yet. I hope our coaching staff has something that will blow everyone away and make use of what talent we do have. For instance throwing deep to deep threats. Putting play makers on the field in a position to do what they do well "X", NOT keep them on the bench because they do "Y" poorly. This was Parcell's philosophy by the way. He wanted to know what a guy did well and how to take advantage of it and put him in a position to succeed instead of using what they sucked at to keep them on the bench in favor of an "average" veteran. That all being said. It again comes down to I think EVERY team is also practicing their "real" play book and come out and play vanilla in preseason. It has just been proven in at least preseason that other teams are better, sometimes much better, playing vanilla vs vanilla. The "Billiever" in me hopes we have something like an UP TEMPO version of the no-huddle that will blow people away. Side note. It still kills me how some of these retarded football pundits don't get the different between the no-huddle and the hurry up. We have NOT been hurrying up but they are trying to blame the defense being on the field a long time on the lack of a huddle. I bet we are getting plays snapped off at about the same time as a huddling team would. -

I heard the portion of the video you were talking about. I guess no one knows 100% what the coach was saying. I took it to mean that they are focused on New England but they have their last preseason game coming up against Detroit. They still have talent to evaluate and bugs to work out. I didn't get from that that they were actually "game planning" them to take advantage of player tendencies, weaknesses etc. Any game even a preseason game is going to take some sort of "preparation" which is the word he used. I don't take that to mean they are breaking down game film on them and sweating a plan of attack. -

PDaDdy replied to spartacus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I read you right that is EXACTLY what I am saying. Vanilla against vanilla we look as bad as it appears in preseason. During the regular season when both teams game plan it's our coaching vs theirs. Unfortunately that gives me even less hope than I have had through our abysmal preseason. Again, that being said I hope T.O. is the missing piece we have needed that last 5 years on offense. Even if he is it will take a 180 turn around in Trent's style to make use of him. -

Please let's not start that silly forum argument that goes nowhere. I SAID IT!...Please show me where it says I allege that you said it? The point being I don't think ANYONE game plans and because it looked like Pittsburgh was attacking us etc and was effective doesn't mean they game planned us. Do you have a legitimate source for your beliefs that the Steelers game planned us or are you basing it on their effectiveness against us? -
The Bills are not bad --- they did not game plan
PDaDdy replied to spartacus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You saw what you saw. No doubt. JUST BECAUSE WE LOOKED INEFFECTIVE AND INEPT DOESN'T MEAN THE STEELERS GAME PLANNED US. Why do you think the Bills are the only team that ran vanilla that night and wanted to evaluate their talent? We want to Billieve so badly that we aren't really that bad vanilla vs vanilla that we start saying things like the other team must have game planned us! They are just a better team. They did win the superbowl for crying out loud. And yes, Trent IS really incapable of playing against a 3 - 4 defense. Get used to it. He needs a "3 - 4 Defense for Dummies" book. -

Sometimes these impersonal forums can create really polarizing environments. Everyone has a big strong opinion and everyone else is an idiot because you don't have to look a man, or woman, in the face and have the balls to express your opinion in the way that some do here. In truth I think a lot of us are more middle of the road or really posses both components of the true Billiever that thinks we can win in the face of any odds and the analytical skeptic that sees the light at the end of the tunnel as a train. I really DO think we have a shot Monday night, but realistically the odds are against us. I wouldn't actually throw up a post scolding people saying I'm going to tell you so if the Bills do win. That's crazy! We all hope they win. Some of us can just admit to ourselves that we are a huge underdog and the likely outcome is not a good one. -
The Bills are not bad --- they did not game plan
PDaDdy replied to spartacus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the problem I have with this philosophy; the other team is running their base offense and defense as well. They are also evaluating talent. Soooo...all things being equal we are not as good as the teams we have played. NOW, the point you can make is...a team can come up with a great game plan to defeat their opponent. I don't want to throw more fuel on the "coaching sucks" fire but do you really think the guys we have running the ship are going to "out game plan" our opposition? If anything I think the beatings will get worse. Then again if we can finally see the TO effect on the field he could be the missing link that I have claimed we needed for the past 5 years and the light of heaven will shine down on western NY and all will be right in the universe. -

Well I am REALLY not looking forward to the opportunity of telling YOU "I told you so" because that would indeed mean the Bills lost. I will try to remember to do so while licking my emotional wounds after the beating we are likely to suffer. -

PDaDdy replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Soooo....if they DO suck Monday night do we get to tell YOU I told you so? Sounds like a BS argument your making anyway. It's like the little guy in the bar picking a fight with the big guy. He's supposed to lose. He's not really risking anything as far as honor or reputation is concerned and is actually viewed as the "little engine that could" optimist that took a stand and actually thought he had a chance. Now, if by some stroke of luck he actually wins he looks like David who beat Goliath and a visionary who knew it all along!!! So, basically you're just reserving the right to say I told you so in case the 10% chance that the Bills can win on MNF pays off while risking nothing backing an obvious long shot. You're not supposed to be right anyway right? -
Training Camp pass plays....
PDaDdy replied to Steve In Atlanta 2008's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was at practice too and didn't see any more long balls from Trent than I have in preseason. I don't quite understand where you are going with the question though. To get to the point of where I think you are actually going with this. You only need to look as far as Fitzpatrick and Hamden. They throw the ball longer than Trent with regularity in preseason games. Why in the world would the coaching staff only let Trent throw short and let the other two guys fire away? No getting around it. Edwards is a check down artist. End of story. -
How a Stanford grad calls out his coaches
PDaDdy replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your take is one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is I'm taking what the defense is giving me, meaning he doesn't feel the defense is giving him the opportunity to make downfield throws and or he doesn't have the balls to pull the trigger. I feel like we have a good group of guys who want to go in the right direction who want to be coached, and that's the bottom line." meaning we have a lot to get done and our guys are ready and 100% behind the coach and will do whatever they say to get things fixed.
