Show Edwards film of Owens and Evans WIDE OPEN downfield
PDaDdy replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair question Reports from people on this forum in other threads say that either Evans or TO were open on a LOT of the plays. Thurman Thomas also commented on Trent had WR open down field that he didn't see. -
Were Lee and T.O. getting open?

Just ask every defensive coordinator that we have to play this year. They'll be able to provide you that tape. -

Failure to beat wining teams. Inability to read and beat 3 - 4 defensive looks. A tool box that is 3/4 full of all of the passes an NFL QB should be able to make. Inability or unwillingness to throw beyond 15 yards. Inability or unwillingness to throw over the middle. The only promise I see is of more mediocrity and a renewed search for a franchise QB. Check my math but did we give JP this long? It's about time to break out the pitch forks and torches and run this guy out of town if he doesn't grow a set!!!!! -

AAHHHH. So this is where some of the apologists have been hiding. Offering each other assurances that everything else is to blame for Trent's failings. 1) O-line is young and got injured. Some plays Trent had 2 seconds some plays he had plenty of time. When you do get the time make the defense pay. Hey a lot of people thought our old line was so terrible and Peters was a chump. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLO. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward I guess. We are going to see inconsistency like this for a while. 2) Coaching is not problem #1. Universal rule...YOU CAN'T COACH BALLS OR ARM STRENGTH. Trent doesn't have enough of former and I wish he had more of the latter which could improve his problem with the former! 3) Did anyone else notice that almost ALL of the time Trent audibles he goes to a running play? Amazing how a good QB can make the "TEAM" look better

I can't say AVP called the best game. I also don't know exactly how many plays Edwards changed at the line. Whenever he did it always seemed to be a running play. How come other QBs can make defenses pay but when Trent get's corner blitzed it looks like he just saw a pig fly? -

"COME ON MANNNNNNN!" I don't think that Trent is coached to throw almost all of his passes in the air that are shorter than 10 yards. I don't think that he is coached to hit TEs, RBs, and #3 WRs all day. I'm pretty sure he is coached to go through his reads which usually involves looking at one of your top targets, Evans and Owens, before checking down. All you gotta do is throw the ball. -

Couple this with Evans statements in preseason about he and Owens asking for more shots down field, it sounds like a very classy way to say they were open deep and the balls weren't thrown. He didn't say "SOME" opportunities he said "PLENTY"! Maybe the plan all along is to let Trent bomb. Rebuild the offensive line. End up 3 - 13 and get a really high draft pick to get a real QB. You know, one that has a reason to wear an athletic supporter. -

A slant requires the QB to fire a laser somewhere in between the hash marks basically. Can't do that with a sling shot...but I forgot. Trent doesn't have a weak arm. He just doesn't make the throws that QBs that don't have weak arms can make. Of course I could be wrong. His arm could be just fine and he has no guts to make those kinds of plays. -

Sometimes that is without question true. Starting QBs beat the blitz at least a FEW times. When Trent DOES get 3, 4, 5 seconds he has to make the defense pay!!!!! He doesn't and checks down. I wish I saw something different but that's how it goes. -

AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!!!! -
Amongst all of the bashing of Trent and Jauron which in my opinion is veiled Trent apologist support, something occurred to me. Many were complaining about some of the calls as far as when we decided to punt. Not going for it on a 4th and 1 etc. Perhaps, just perhaps Jauron isn't a stupid as some thing and he knows he has a QB with a confidence crisis on his hands. Perhaps he did give up on the game and took no risk as he didn't want to risk further damage to and the embaressment of Edwards and to an extent perhaps the o-line? Hangartner couldn't snap the ball in the second half well. Wasn't he injured and limited in practice all week? Perhaps Jauron just knew we weren't up to the task and wanted to get us out of there? Who knows? Just something to think about I guess.

Not sure how you inferred that from what I said. I like Brandon so far. He bit a HUGE bullet scrapping the entire line and starting over with rookies and bargain basement free agents. Ultimately it could turn out great. Right now we will see some bad growing pains like yesterday. Russ didn't draft Trent. On the other side Russ didn't draft his possibly to be determined replacement either! Russ did however bring in an unchallenging free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick that in the back of some of our minds we are wondering what he might bring to the table. Jauron is not perfect but to lay it all at his feet ignores the fact that we have a personnel problem, that predates Brandon as GM, at the most important position on the team. We want to love the players so if they don't perform it's the coaches fault not our QB that we hung our hopes on while trashing the last guy we ran out of town. -
It was laughable. Your right. Trent needed hands on his ankles to take some of those snaps.
-
MAN I hate to say it but Sanchez looks like the ****. You could tell from game 1 he had "IT". It's only 3 games but this kid plays with balls, confidence, a wide open lets play to win attitude. A friend of mine is a Jets fan and I DON'T look forward to hearing about this kid for the next 10 years while we are still looking for a competent ball launcher.

We all know that it's the GMs job to do the actual drafting and make free agent acquisitions which is why many coaches have asked to be both coach AND GM. People are so desperate to make it Jauron's fault that now they think he is GM and offensive coordinator. That being said yes I think Jauron has had some input into the roster if our GM is worth anything. What I do fault Jauron with is sticking with Trent as a QB. Who knows what went on behind the scenes but Jauron should have been begging for a competent veteran QB to come in here and run this offense right. We have plenty of talent in the skill positions. It sickens that we can look this bad. -

And this "it's all Jauron's fault" will do nothing to improve this team!!! Trent stinks, he stinks out loud against 3 - 4 looks. He looks confused and he has no sack. -

Is Jauron an offensive coordinator that knows schemes to be able to decide on which of said schemes to run? Does Jauron line up on the field? These guys were put in a situation to win. THAT is the coaches job. These guys didn't perform on the field. THAT is the players job. You can't coach balls and you can't coach talent where there is none. -
Yep those plays! It's a rare QB that never has to move outside the pocket. It happens deal with it. Too bad we don't have a veteran QB that can handle that sort of thing like a Mark Sanchez.

3rd and 16 is tough to over come. I bet those other QBs at least TRY to convert instead of a check down that goes for 3 yards. What a joke.

I watched the game live at my bar but I found that my DVR didn't record the game. Does anyone else recall an announcer saying the Greg Williams and the Saints were going to be bringing some 3 - 4 looks? It would be just more proof that Trent has ABSOLUTELY no clue how to attack a 3 - 4 defense. Even the Patriots this year are supposedly going with a hybrid 4 -3 look. Could explain how we can look OK one week and absolutely incompetent the next. -

Come on man, you're not going to get 3 or 4+ seconds on every play. Not to mention how many times did Trent get harassed by the corner blitz and he did nothing to pick it up, hit a hot WR or audible out of it? Sure he was pressured on some plays. He did have plenty of time on several others. My point is when he DOES have time he needs to take advantage of a few of those opportunities and take a freakin shot.
