BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on man. I'm trying to see the other side but lets not get ridiculous. Perhaps your goal was to take what you perceived as my strategy in phrasing and approaching the question and use it against me but lets keep it real. If you HONESTLY believe that we don't have someone working with Trent on his "footwork, throwing motion, etc" as you put it I guess your entitled to your opinion. It is, however, akin to claiming that the offensive coordinator hasn't give Trent a play book because you didn't see him hand him one. I'll give you that's it's an assumption but it's one you accept like the concepts of 1 and 0 that all modern math is based on. These "concepts" can't actually be proven but we accept that they work. Actually yes I do. When they snap the ball and run them I know with 100% certainty what play was called OR audibled to. Don't forget Trent can change the play if he doesn't like it. I do know that the coaching staff and Jauron as well as players have said many many times "we had plenty of opportunities but we didn't take advantage them", "we have to get TO and Lee more involved." This sound like the talk of people that are instructed to not take chances and check down constantly? (Would really love an answer although I doubt I will get one) One play does not a precedent of bad coaching make. Not to mention Jauron was justified because Trent threw a pick. Should be self explanatory that he was given good advice advising him against things that cause him to fail. I'll reference my point earlier. If I was QB of the Bills and I played the way I was coached can I blame my inevitable horrific failure on bad coaching? Or, is it just that I don't have what it takes? -
BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very plausible. I wonder if EXACTLY that conversation has taken place. It is very close to the very specific question I asked. If Jauron hasn't had that conversation with Trent yet that IS bad coaching in my opinion. Whether Trent follows through or not and obeys or gets benched points to his personal performance again. AVP/Jauron could try to coach me to do those things but it's up to me to execute or not. I'm just not capable. Perhaps Trent isn't either. Where they ARE responsible is making the decision to bench or start me. Unfortunately this doesn't excuse the reasons for why I would suck but at least they would be trying to get what was needed out of me or move on to the next guy. -
BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doesn't throw a tight spiral on long balls. Under throws deep balls. Over throws or throws high on intermediate routes. Misses open WR. Rarely gives WRs a chance to make a play when they are not wide open. (Edwards DID do this in garbage time at the end of the Miami game and gave Lee Evans some opportunities to make plays for him and he did) At times shows poor pocket presence and takes sack he doesn't have to when he could throw the ball away ala Brady. -

AH....a ray of light! This is at least something that bears consideration and you've put more thought into it than "Jauron sucks maaaaaan!". I do believe Jauron to be a conservative play it safe coach. I don't know this 100% but, trick plays aside, it's something that I could reasonable infer from the general game plan I see on Sundays. I suppose that it is possible that if Jauron is driving it into Trent's head to not turn the ball over that Trent's interpretation is to play it safe and constantly check down. This does however seem to be in conflict with public statements made by Jauron of getting Evans and Owens more involved in the offense which I assume means throwing the ball down field. Unfortunately it might be that Trent thinks throwing the ball down field and playing safe mistake free football are mutually exclusive. This could also be because the times I have seen Trent throw down field the balls are often questionable without even a good spiral on them. -
BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm completely fine with my stance that Edwards sucks. If anything it makes me feel worse about it because as Edwards sucks so do the Bills. If Edwards IS being poorly coached then perhaps all we need at the end of the year is a new coach. If Edwards just sucks on his own then that means we need a QB AND a head coach at the end of the year. Also, as I engage in forum discussion and Edwards apologists keep trotting out that he is being poorly coached I can with clear conscience tell them that they don't have a leg to stand on. -
BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I said before if that is the answer then that is the point. If nobody can provide any specifics of how Edwards is being poorly coached then how can we say it is so? Unsubstantiated opinions for the most are are less than useless speculation as it can cloud our vision as to the real issues. I have heard people say SO many times Edwards is being poorly coached. Instead of taking the condescending "you're an idiot" approach which so many people in forums do, myself included, I just thought I would give people a chance to elaborate. So far nobody has risen to the challenge of defending their claim that Edwards is being poorly coached. Mind you this doesn't 100% prove that he ISN'T being poorly coached but it does seem to say that nobody really has any factual clue. The things I see him fail at on the field are due to Edwards being a 3rd round QB that isn't NFL starter caliber unless surrounded by a fantastic team. -

Please define and quantify the bad coaching as it applies to Edwards sucking? As I said I really am trying to keep an open mind on this and suspect there is some truth to it but without backing up that claim it's just hot air from a justifiably angry fan! -
BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well if that is the answer I guess that is part of the point. How can we allege bad coaching when nobody really has a clue? At best I think all we can do is to evaluate any player based on on field performance. Any opinion that is even close to being worth anything has to be based on what we can observe and quantify skewed for performance of the people around that player. Saying the coaching sucks but then not being able to back that up is a cop out and turns a blind eye to it actually being the players fault they are performing poorly. -
BAD COACHING....OR EDWARDS SUCKS!?!?!?!
PDaDdy replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My "GUESS" is you are correct!! I don't want to guess, I want some sort of proof. I can make a valid claim the Edwards sucks because of his on field performance which I can observe and more importantly QUANTIFY. I guess I'm asking for some sort of quantifiable proof of bad coaching as far as Edwards specifically goes. I'm open to the idea that it's bad coaching but I want to see claims supported with proof. -

I'm trying to keep an open mind on this because I too "feel" there could be some issues with coaching but I don't "know" anything. Can you speak to some specifics of the bad offensive plays being called? (Remember Trent can AND DOES change plays to his liking at the line via the audible which he has been green lighted to use) Specifically how is Jauron a wuss as far as coaching Edwards goes? Yes our offensive line play is pretty offensive especially after the injuries to our backup quality tackles we are now down to guys that probably wouldn't make anyone elses active roster. This is negatively impacting Trent's performance but I am asking the question specifically about bad coaching! -

If not for anything else it should be fun to see some of the bs that people come up with. -
This is a serious question I have. It's something that I have heard almost daily since I have been on this board. One of the FAVORITE excuses for Trent's poor performance on the field is bad coaching. It appears to me that that excuse is 100% pure unsubstantiated speculation. My questions are these... Can anyone quantitatively or qualitatively give me any specifics on exactly HOW Edwards is being poorly coached? Is anyone privy to certain drills he should be running and isn't? Is anyone privy to what the coaches are telling him to do with the ball? Does anyone know that he is not being taught how to read 3 - 4 defenses? Does anyone know that he is not being properly instructed on his pocket presence? Does anyone know if he is being told to check down even though coaching and the WRs publicly state they have to get the ball down field? To make your point credible please provide specifics as to how he is being poorly coached!!! Questions are not specifics. "Jauron sucks" is not specific. "He wouldn't look like crap on the field if" is not specific. I can say HONESTLY that I don't know one way or the other if Trent is being properly coached. My problem is that many people claim they do but don't really have a clue either.
-
Another question I have. Can anyone tell me how Edwards is not getting the proper coaching? I hear lots of people complain about it and use it as an excuse for Trent's poor performances but nobody has ever given any specifics about the "bad" coaching.
-
Strongly disagree. You can say they are marginally better but I would be ecstatic to take Owens and Evans into battle any day. I don't know that GBs TEs are setting the world on fire either. Ah, I get it. You're one of those stats don't matter guys. I have NO idea how you can say GB, giving up 20 sacks, is better than Buffalo giving up 16. Sorry that's just ridiculous!!!!
-
If 77 - 127, 60.6%, 1098yds, 6 tds, 1 int, with a passer rating of 101.1 is struggling WITH an even worse line....I WILL TAKE THAT ANY DAY OF THE WEEK AND TWICE ON SUNDAY!!!!!
-
If we need tackles that badly...and I think we do....we should have paid Peters and taken care of him instead of creating the contract dispute and earning Peters the ire of many fans. They so hated him that they were blind to his 2 time probowl talent and questioned his obvious talent at an incredibly early age. He had only been playing offensive line for a few years. We screwed the pooch.
-
I agree to an extent. Drafting a tackle imo would have been an admission by the front office that we should have kept Peters. They were determined not to pay him his due!!!
-
You can't coach talent . You can't coach arm strength. You can't coach balls and you can't coach the "IT" factor. Stop blaming coaching for Trent's failings!!!!
-
SOOOO....Honestly....Who is still happy we got rid of that fat over paid underachieving over rated line now? Our guys are young and there might be a few guys worth keeping. Not sure we have anyone that would start for anyone else but worth keeping. We have Green Bay to thank for preventing us from having The #1 worst line in pass protection. We are #2 with 16 sacks in 4 games and Green Bay has 20. Of course they have played some healthy real defenses so far. I'm sure Trent agrees with many it was a good idea to not pay Probowl Peters. As a side note and another jab at Trent Edward apologists, Aaron Rodgers is playing GREAT with an even worse line!!! What is Trent's excuse again?
-
I've got a GREAT plan. How about we take a look at the top 3 QBs as ranked by the draft pundits. Find the one with a BIG, not just "adequate" arm, some physical size, some "escape-ability", has overcome some adversity, has played in a PRO offense and a wonderlic score that proves he is not brain dead!! If you find these qualities in one guy and don't compromise I think you have a great chance of minimizing your chance of getting a bust. A question I keep asking myself is a difficult one. If you could somehow qualitatively rank QBs like great, good, avg, below avg and poor I would love to see on average what round/pick the QBs that fall into those categories were drafted. NO I don't mean QB rating as it is only part of the puzzle. Ball-less checkdown artists with good completion numbers can cheat that system. It seems to me that all of the new QBs worth a damn are all first round guys. Perhaps a 2nd rounder or 2 in there for variety. Why do we think we can win with a 3rd round QB? Tom Bradys only come around once in a blue moon. There are of course exceptions but generally guys go late because they aren't as good or don't have as much potential as the guys that go before them. Just because there are exceptions we shouldn't invalidate the rule! Draft a QB EARLY for the BEST chance of success.
-
There in lies the problem. We only used one of those picks in the actual draft. We gave away first round picks for Johnson and Bledsoe. We should have spent those on rookie QB prospects. Perhaps we might have hit on one and we wouldn't constantly be dealing with crap.
-
If we draft a tackle in the first round Russ Brandon should be kicked square in the nuts. With how high our draft pick could be we would have to pay Jason Peters 2 time pro bowl money to a completely untested rookie. CAN YOU SAY DUMB AS HELL!??!?!?!

Dude. Ralphie was all giddy after a 5 - 1 start and coughed up the cash just before the wheels flew off? -

RIIIGHT. Mularkey started JP over both Drew Bledsoe AND Kelly Holcomb. Holcomb was so good he went on to be the starting QB of.....of ....wait. I was ok with Holcomb as a back up but he has the same problems as Edwards. It always seems like we are choosing between weak arm checkdown QBs vs big arm QBs. CAN'T WE FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN DO BOTH!!!! Very frustrating.
