  1. JohnC started with there were no starting opportunities in the league other than Buffalo. This is pulled from post #66 made by him: You and many others continue to make the argument that he was an attractive qb option for a number of qb starved teams. The reality is that when he had the opportunity to pursue other options no team was interested in him at his former salary or even at a lower salary rate. The stark reality is he took a salary cut with a shorter term because he had no other offers. If you believe that there is still potential for him, even with his glaring limitations, then so be it. What I am saying in a declarative manner is that when he had an opportunity to avail himself to the market there were no takers.
  2. I quoted you to add the Rovell stat and 26cb beat me to it below. he got 50k a day! That is insane! Phil was an excellent manager of personalities. He knew exactly what buttons to push and at what time. Getting the egos of Kobe and Shaq to work together as long as they did and then reigning in Kobe a second time were great work. He is the Peter Principle at work. Amazing coach terrible FO guy. I don't think his heart was in it as much as he thought it would be and I also think he was too married to his triangle. The Warriors have completely changed the game and it passed him by.
  3. huh I didn't think previews would be your kind of thing
  4. I agree 100% and am arguing from a position I don't fully support. A position I do support is not having kids teaching HS. Some sort of arbitrary have to be out of HS for 10 years before being allowed to teach it rule would help curb a lot of this. They are peers in my mind at 24 and 17. Young dumb and full of ....
  5. As a founding member of the inane "CoT" I absolutely agree with what you posted. He most likely won't be a franchise guy but I'm not convinced yet. In my mind he gets this year and we will all have our answer. If he regresses again it is all but over for his starting opportunities, if he is a middling QB again it is likely what he is a middling qb, if he improves though the Bills might have their guy and 2 first rounders next year to improve the team with. This is his prove it year. I have to jump in and defend Gunner real quick. He is always level headed when discussing things (except maybe Rex ) and has very defined reasons that he doesn't believe in TT. I fully respect his opinion on player evals and he has his reasons for not believing. He doesn't repeat them over and over and he is respectful in discussing them. I hope he is really wrong on this one though!
  6. I went into it above but maybe he likes Buffalo? Maybe he likes Dennison from his time with him? Maybe it was Cleveland or SF or the Jets who are bottom of the barrel and offer less of a chance to win than Buffalo that wanted him? Maybe (as Shaw has opined) he believes in himself and thinks he will cash in big next year? He got his security last year and again this year. Last year he made more money than he had the rest of his career combined. He now has over 20 million dollars. His signing here originally was him betting on himself, is it that unlikely that he is doing it again? I could be right, you could be right, John could be right but none of us know. I do believe that his agent reached out to teams. I do believe they thought Buffalo was the best fit for him which is why they stayed. I also however believe that there were other teams interested and we will never know their names. Tampering behind closed doors happens all the time but for a team to go on record admitting they were tampering would be unheard of and just plain dumb.
  7. They are only 7 years apart but I think the issue is more the power dynamic. I personally have no problem with people of the age of consent making the decisions they make but I can see the issue here. As a teacher she needs to treat all students the same. This kid was certainly getting preferential treatment
  8. I'm still mad about the NBA blocking his trade to the Lakers
  9. Don't let perfection be the enemy of very good. Not every team gets to have a top 10 QB that can strap a team on its back and there isn't even 10 guys in the league that can do that. The rest of the teams need to make due and you make due with the best options available. If he is the 15th - 20th best QB in the league that would make him a valuable commodity both to the team and in the league. You have been ruined by Brady. What he and the Pats* are doing is amazing but he has a fantastic team around him, probably the best coach of all time, and is in the conversation for best QB of all time if he hasn't already achieved that status. TT has had subpar talent around him, Rex Ryan, and was a first time starter. Look at recent SB QBs and you will see what I mean. Ryan and Brady are both top 5-10 QBs which was the anomaly, Cam and P Manning when they met? Cam had a great year but his career puts him somewhere around 10-15th best in the league and Manning was terrible, Seahawks both year were led by their defense as RW might be top 10 now but wasn't when they went to the SB, before that the super bowl matchup was Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco both who imo are worse than TT, Eli Manning won the SB before that and has been maybe around top 10 his career with some absolutely dreadful seasons mixed in. QBs absolutley help and make a huge impact on the game but ultimately the talent around them drives their success. Look no further than Brees and Rivers for proof of that. This was my issue with your post. A lot of conjecture passed off as fact. For starters you made up the bolded. You took a lot of your ideas on the situation and presented them as fact. That doesn't make them a fact. You also don't know for sure that he would have been cut without renegotiating although that is a pretty safe bet.
  10. We looked hard at Maine and even reached out to their travel office but didn't get much help we will definitely look into this! Please let me know how it goes! With so many recommendations for Lake George it has moved to the front of the list. I have a college buddy from Glens Falls so that might even be a perfect home base so Saratoga and Lake George can happen. Not a chance. 60s are shorts and t-shirt weather! Ithaca is only about 35 minutes from me so we do a lot of day trips there. In the fall I ref High School Soccer in that area so I spend a lot of time there. I hate the idea of paying for a room that close to home. I'd rather just sleep in my own bed (yes I'm cheap ) I live in the Finger Lakes and we do many a wine tour as well. This summer we will be doing a brewery tour as many have started to pop up on the wine trails. Do you care to share your list? If it is extensive I can pm you my email address. Hey honey we are gonna have some guests over tonight. Yeah I know him, well we talk on that football board you say I spend too much time on. Yeah he's from my hometown we know a lot of the same people. He's friends with Fitz. and then I get disinvited Sesame Place was on the list but we didn't know what else was around and neither of us were pumped about the idea of 3 days with Elmo. Thank you for this though as it might make the trip more worth it!
  11. Letchworth is out. Neither my wife or I are hikers and I'm looking for activities to do. Old Fort looks interesting if we go the Niagara Falls route it could be a nice day trip. Is it a town or just an old fort?
  12. Yup and that 17 year old is an idiot. He should have kept his mouth shut and he could have enjoyed that for a while.
  13. 5 year anniversary coming up and looking for a mini getaway with the wife. The trouble we are running into is we want to bring our 2 1/2 year old. What are some good family friendly places to vacation for a few days? All of NY and surrounding states except the City are on the table. We want to spend 3 or 4 days in early August before my wife and I go on a mini weekend get away to really celebrate. Some places we are looking into that I was hoping for feedback on (other suggestions very welcome): Lake George Old Forge Niagara Falls (we do all have passports) Saratoga Thousand Islands Somewhere in Maine (no idea where to even begin) We live between Syracuse and Rochester so it isn't a big deal to travel either direction. I get free rooms at Turning Stone so we thought of maybe using that as home base and traveling to Old Forge from there and places local to that as well. Help!
  14. I think the key here is THEY left. Harbaugh imo is responsible for the light turning on for Alex Smith. CK was not at all set up for success with the dumpster fire that SF turned into. They are on their 4th HC in 4 years. I don't think CK is great but I also don't think he really got a fair shot once Harbaugh moved on. Roman has long been praised for his run schemes and received criticism for his pass game design. It certainly may be on the QBs he had to work with but I don't think it is an airtight case to say so. Yes your opinion is the only fact. Where do you rank TT as a starter in this league? Is he top 25 in your book or hell even top 30? We are talking a league where Brian Hoyer and Josh McCown are slated to start this year. I can tell your a smart guy but this second post is dripping with both conjecture and condescension. Specifically the bolded yes his agent and teams may have tampered and discussed a player under contract but there are so many variables. You have no idea if any other teams offered the starting spot. How much money were the other teams offering? Maybe another team like the 49ers or Jets offered more but he didn't want to go to a bottom of the barrel team. Maybe the Texans offered more but he didn't want to live in Texas. Maybe the Browns offered more but he didn't want to go to the factory of sadness. Maybe he loves Buffalo and his team mates. Do you really think that if Buffalo hadn't re-signed him he wouldn't have had an offer to be someone's starter? I am comfortable in saying he would have. That is my conjecture however naive you want to say that makes me. Even the most ardent anti-TT guys have him in the top 25 QBs in the NFL he would be starting somewhere next year. There is so much you don't know about the situation that sitting here and declaring that you know exactly what happened and went through his mind when making the decision is problematic for your argument.
  15. Certainly but is 19 old enough to do that? At 35 I'm still asking my father for advice. I can't imagine at 19 trying to tell him anything lol. I'm really surprised this didn't show up yet: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/06/wwe-issues-statement-after-15-year-old-lamelo-ball-uses-racial-slur-on-live-tv It is another over blown situation and I had to listen a couple of times to even hear it but it made me think of this thread.
  16. 2 maddeningly inconsistent players. Roberson should have led the team last year and dominated but his effort just was missing on so many occasions. White was a little too passive in many games but wow what a jump shot. I think he has a much better chance to make an impact in the league than even Lydon.
  17. Yeah that was the only part I took issue with. It is a symptom of the news cycle these days though. I'm actually impressed with Lavar as I think he is just the world's best troll and gets ESPN and others to buy right into it. I do agree that there will be a little something extra for Lonzo but I don't think it will last long. Ultimately he will sink or swim on his own merits. Lavar will follow the same trajectory as every other big mouth. He eventually will fade into irrelevance. For now though I'm enjoying him. He was annoying at first but then I thought about what he is doing and it is kind of genius. NBA is a star league and he made Lonzo a more household name than the #1 over all pick. He has opened a lot of doors for his sons for all of the road blocks he may have put up. His 14 year old son is a household name even!
  18. Not being a protective Laker fan. Why? Is it his dad? You wish that a kid who, by all accounts is an incredibly hard worker, fails because ESPN wants to drive ratings? Lavar is loud and it has worked incredibly well for him and the BBB brand. He gets so much free publicity from ESPN and the like because they need something to talk about and he gives it to them. You should look into Lonzo himself and see if you still feel the same way. To me there is even a method to Lavar's madness. "My dad's a funny guy," Lonzo says. "People were coming up to me and saying, 'Are you embarrassed? Your dad said you're going to win the championship.' No, I'm not embarrassed. I know how he's going to act. I just go out there and play. Let him be him." You want rules and structure? Lonzo says his dad made sure the boys ate breakfast every day before they could leave the house. "There would always be three things," Lonzo says. "My dad took care of that. Always some type of eggs, some type of bread and then pancakes or waffles or something. I know that everything my dad made me do made me better." http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2696577-lonzo-ball-is-life-uclas-superstar-freshman-is-ready-to-win-it-all
  19. This was always expected. he and cp3 can get huge raises by opting out.
  20. So he decides for everyone when it is okay to sit or stand? Not trying to be combative as to each their own but I hate this. I'm not rude about standing if there is an elderly or otherwise incapable person sitting behind me to the point I have offered to move back a row and switch seats. However I am excited to be there, excited to watch Bills football, and there to be loud. All of that is difficult while sitting. All of that is probably why I don't sit in clubs when I go which sucks because the amenities are amazing. As others have mentioned the food, bathrooms, and (my favorite) ability to get mixed drinks are top notch and a fantastic way to watch sports. I stand while I watch the game in my living room each week when home. I get that some games can be boring and there is a lot of down time in football games but I prefer to stand almost the entire time. That is what home field advantage is all about imo. I loved my end zone seats as it was the norm to stand not sit. I have seasons in the dome for SU Basketball and purposely chose to go high up so I can stand.
  21. Again I hold firmly that he hasn't changed his comedy but many people have aged out of it. Kids still love him.
  22. PG has told teams he will be a 1 year rental only. I think he will actually head to the Lakers like it has been rumored (at least I hope) Saw another mention that Kyrie has been discussing possible spots to go to if LeBron leaves next year. Cleveland's window is slamming shut!
  23. Adam Sandler still makes the same movies he made 20 years ago. The problem isn't him it is us getting older and not finding the same immature humor funny. That said I still love immature humor so I still enjoy his movies. Many have been listed here but: 50 First Dates, Waterboy, Happy Gillmore, Billy Madison, That's My Boy, Longest Yard, Wedding Singer, Bedtime Stories, Click, Mr. Deeds, Big Daddy were all very funny to me. I enjoyed Little Nicky and Blended as well. Happy Madison has put out a bunch of good movies including probably my favorite of all time for a comedy in Grandma's Boy. That is one hell of a career! Was my go to movie for the "want to watch a movie" move. Light comedy, romance, and usually we had both seen it so no getting drawn into it accidentally!
  24. it's the offseason. people need to start putting friendly wagers out there. Ryan/Maury and I have one about wentz and Tyrod. We didn't do it for money but some ball busting/ bragging rights. Have some fun with it people. At the end of the day none of our opinions mean jack. If you think you're right make a friendly bet. Think about jeffistragic he has his rep out there on mahomes. if he busts he'll get the barbarian style ribbing. if he hits he'll get some cred. This is supposed to be entertainment. This **** ain't serious.
