I will forever love Eli for ruining their perfect season. He has just never been an amazing qb. 14 years of starting and numbers almost identical to Tyrod's first couple starting. You can use hypotheticals but they don't really help your argument. If Tyrod is a backup qb at best then how is someone with identical numbers a hofer? He will be and I won't argue it but lets agree that luck had a lot to do with those 2 wins. At his peak Eli was a much better passer that Tyrod. For the majority of his career though he has been Tyrod.

I won't get fully into it because I don't have the time but here is a cursory glance: Of the top 5 passing teams 3 have a winning record Of the top 10 passing teams 7 have a winning record Of the top 16 passing teams (top half of the league) 9 have a winning record So I guess it matters where you draw your demarcation line. Here is a fun discussion point though: Of the top 5 rushing teams 4 have a winning record Of the top 10 rushing teams 7 have a winning record Of the top 16 rushing teams 10 have a winning record It seems to me that a team needs to be productive whether it is rushing or passing. Only the Rams, Saints, and Falcons are top 10 in both. Surprisingly 14 teams average less than 208 yards passing. On the flip side 12 teams average 250+ passing yards and 0 teams average 300 yards passing. New England is the only team that averages over 267 yards passing in a game. i did some looking a year or 2 back and passing was difficult to correlate with winning due to a lot of teams passing in catch up mode or the dreaded garbage time. Rushing teams were much more likely to have winning records partly due to having a lead and running out the clock. I would say pass first teams in the NFL aren't the norm like they once were and the numbers have started to bear that out. Most successful teams have a strong run game with their pass game (Bills have neither right now). Saints - now have a running game and are winning again Falcons - rely on 2 headed monster of Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman as much as Matt Ryan Chargers - rely on Melvin Gordon as much as Rivers Rams - as good as Goff has been Gurley has been as well Steelers - Le'veon in addition to AB and Ben At a quick glance I would say Patriots and Packers have offenses built around passing. Thank you for bringing some sanity to this discussion. Eli was never great but got hot at the right times. I feel for him here because he has done so much he doesn't deserve to be yanked but.... He hasn't been good this year or last. 2015 seems to be that last one year that great players have where they flash and then fade. Tyrod has outplayed him and we know how most fans feel about Tyrod. He has been an ironman however its all but over for him imo. He doesn't strike me as someone who would skirt the rules and go the HGH route (coughbradycough) and hang around. Players SHOULD start to fade in their late 30s. Add a bad oline that allows him to get hit often and I'm surprised his starting game streak has reached the number it has. Some fun Eli facts: Did you know he has a 110-100 record? Did you know he has 3 years of 20+ ints? Did you know he has never completed more than 63.1% of his passes in a season? and a career 59.8%? Did you know he has only thrown for more than 7 ypa 6 out of 14 years starting? Did you know he has a career qb rating of 83.8 which is the same as Joe Flacco? Did you know he has thrown 222 ints in 210 career starts. More than 1 a game Did you know he has thrown 334 tds in 210 career starts. About 1.5 per game. So the average Eli game is 241.3 yards a game combined, 1.5 tds and 1 ints. For comparison Tyrod goes for 238.3 combined, 1.55 tds and .23 ints a game. Somehow out of these numbers Tyrod is garbage and a backup qb at best and Eli is a HOFer.

It's incredible how long he has been playing professionally and how young he still is. I went with my wife who is not a blues fan but she bought me the tickets for a birthday present. After the first song she said wow he's really good is he going to do that all night? He then played for 2+ hours just killing the guitar. I had a smile on my face the whole time I couldn't shake. Just fantastic guitar work. Listening to Joe today on YouTube and this came up eventually. Really interesting and easy to get lost in.

I really thought Peterman's performance would humble a few of the so called experts on the board. I always see how the national guys have no idea about the Bills and how wrong they will be. Then they are right. Every preseason it's the same thing. Every media member crushed the Bills for the move to start Peterman and they were right. The issue to me is that most fans ONLY watch the Bills and highlights of other teams. Tyrod is clearly a middle of the road starter. It is inarguable at this point. Yet to some they will trumpet their uninformed opinion and bash others as uninformed. It's interesting if not frustrating.

Agreed. This one decision above all else really soured me on this regime. Usually it's the middle of year 2 before that happens! I am glad to see that he was able to admit the mistake and wasn't stubborn so I guess I'll give him a little credit there.

eh its all in good fun. Peterman regardless of race represented hope. Hope that the drought was over, that the season wasn't over, that he was better than Tyrod, that we FINALLY had our answer at qb. Some people aren't ready to admit how bad he was last week because of how much they wanted this to be true. Seeing that ridiculously bad play doesn't compute yet. They aren't ready to give up the hope that he maybe could be the guy and will excuse the piss poor play to keep the hope alive. I'll take Skelton for Mario level mocking if I'm wrong but Nate Peterman isn't the answer for anyone and will never have a career in the NFL. Rush judgement after 30 minutes of football but that was really really bad football. Maybe my history of being wrong when I am so definitive will actually work out good for the Bills. Please?

I don't know that a 7-9 team needed to be gutted though. Improved sure but I don't agree with gutted. I think too that the process got off the rails as they were all about the future with every move they made. The trade for Benjamin doesn't compute though. That sure seemed like a win now move. At the time the Peterman move was also pitched as a win now move. "we are better than 5-4." I don't think tear down and rebuilds need to be done in the NFL anymore. I can't think of the last successful one (not saying there aren't any). What I would have liked to see happen was work with your talent (ie build a scheme to fit them) while bringing in your guys slowly and eventually fully running your scheme.

Marrone/Schwartz. I still think Marrone was a good coach even if his choice of OC was not good. Those were the most prepared Bills teams in my memory. Just needed a qb and since we know he didn't like EJ he likely would have looked at the draft.

Under Dr. Jerry Buss they were always competitive and missed the playoffs something like 4 times in 30 years. He passes control to the kids and they haven't made the playoffs since.

I don't want to do the digging because the search function is terrible but I disagree. Both throws were panned as his fault. He threw them he owns them. I don't disagree that the int is on Dimarco but those are the fluky ones that end up on the stat line. Even excusing that one he had 4 ints and a fumble in a half of football. There should be no excuse for that.

On a roll? It was his 3rd pass!!! My favorite excuse this week is that the ints aren't all his fault. Tyrod has 3 picks on the year. 2 of them happened the same way DiMarco's did. I have not seen one person excuse either of those picks. Put the rookie in though and the line is all of a sudden bad, there are no weapons, and the running game didn't help him out. Those are all true points but they were also true with Tyrod behind center.

I did such a good job this year not getting sucked in. Them trading Watkins helped me a lot. However at 5-2 and getting ready to play the Jets I was fully on board the hype train. I'm an idiot.

The jury IS in Tyrod is a decent NFL starter. I was wrong on Wentz. I thought the way he fizzled last year was because he was figured out. He came out this year a man possessed.

I admittedly don't watch a ton of college football but make it a point to catch big games or games involving big time prospects. Every time I watch Mayfield I come away impressed. He slides well in the pocket and finds throwing lanes and I too like the fiery attitude. Long way to go until the draft but at this point I would be very happy with him as the qb. He doesn't strike me as a McDermott kind of guy though so it probably won't be him as frustrating as that may be.

I do see the difference between the 2. I just think the move in general was a dumb one. I think the coach threw in the towel on a very winnable game starting his precious 5th round rookie. Bringing in a 5th round rookie was supposed to spark the offense? Come on thats ridiculous. Peterman being brought in was a desperation move to show that Dennison's scheme can be successful and that the offense sucking has been all Tyrod's fault. Before yesterday many people bought that. Now that Peterman played worse than Tyrod ever even came close to playing it has changed to how bad the rest of the team is. The team has been bad. The Saints game wasn't solely on Tyrod even though he was also bad. We saw yesterday that Tyrod is light years ahead of Peterman. Do you really think it looks that much different in practice to spark that move? Nobody is so sure Tyrod would have won yesterday. It isn't about that. Tyrod would have played better than Peterman and that I CAN guarantee. You opine about the Chargers finding ways to lose close games but oh they aren't that bad. Peterman made it so the game never had a chance to be close. Chargers aren't terrible that I will agree with but who do you think is a tougher game? 3-6 Chargers in a half filled with Bills fans stadium that holds less than half of New Era or a team that blew out New England playing in one of the toughest places to play in the league. Back to my original post to you it's the mental gymnastics that are driving me crazy. Even before the game there was a what if Peterman plays bad thread filled with excuses BEFORE he even took a snap. Now that it is likely Tyrod will be back in we should beat the Chiefs . It's still the same crappy team this week as it was last week. The only way they win is if the defense finally shows up. What do people always say to bash Tyrod? He won't win you the game but he won't lose it for you either? Peterman lost that game for the Bills yesterday. It is okay to think Tyrod sucks AND to think that Peterman sucks. I don't mind that at all. Tyrod not being good enough for anyone is fine with me. Anyone pretending Peterman is or should be excused in any way for yesterday isn't. He was historically bad and deserves to head back to the bench for good.
