  1. I think Allen and Mario would get along great. Both are outdoors-men. Unfortunately I can see him taking a discount deal to go to a contender. I would love to add him though.
  2. I'm kind of surprised that there is no mention of Watkin's pro day here... Here is a link and there is more on Bleacher Report as well. Any inside scoop from Twitter about how it went? It appears that 31 teams were there - who the missed it?! It seems he let his combine performance speak for itself. Maybe that is why nobody started a thread
  3. Yes cutting off your nose to spite your face is always the best strategy.
  4. I fancy myself a bit of a football nut and did a who? when i saw this but I loved that video. Loved everything he said including loving the physicality of the game, having to be the leader, and having to be vocal. Now I'm gonna have to do some digging...
  5. I think that is actually a good thing. With how far below the cap they are taking the hit now would be a benefit before the big dollars of the contract kick in. Say it was even a 4 million bonus. That means they will be paying 5.5 for those 4 years which makes the contract an even better deal. The numbers really seem to be in the Bills favor if AW can play as good as last year let alone get better.
  6. Chandler Jones is under contract for 2 more years so I don't think he'll be a target...
  7. Except he won't. It is an EXTENSION. JW can correct me if I'm wrong but the 4 years and 26 million will kick in after his rookie deal expires. Meaning next year he will make $1,673,185. Thomas - 2013 3,500,000 next year 5,175,000 Chancellor - 2103 3,878,402, next year 5,725,000 Goldson - 2013 8,735,295 next year 9,000,000 So after next year is it reasonable to think he would command 6.5 million on the open market? Considering that would make him the 8th highest safety right now before this year and next year's free agency (TJ Ward and Byrd will certainly command more) which would make it at most the 10th highest safety contract, yes I think it is very reasonable to assume. edited to include link to cap hits.
  8. I really can't see him sitting out and blaming health as the reason. This would be huge detriment to him going into next years free agency. Back to back years with injuries does not get someone a huge multi-year deal. If he does plain sit out then the contract will be pro rated for the games he signs for. The reason he got the full deal last year is he signed it before the 1st game so as not to lose any money.
  9. Many people have said this so it is directed only at you but.... Byrd, if he were to be tagged, could not employ the same tactic as this year. Does anyone really think a team would be willing to pay 3 years 30 million to someone who has missed time the last 2 years due to injury? It would hurt his stock much more than the isolated incident of this year. Even if he says it isn't an injury but he isn't happy with the organization's designation. He is telling every team that he isn't interested in helping the team out he is interested in helping himself out. This would also scare away some potential suitors. Add in the fact that he will be 28 next year and a 10 million per year salary would be even harder to get for 3+ years. Tagging him definitely seems to be the smart thing to do unless as some have speculated, that the Bills have made their final offer and told him if he can get more good for him and if not the offer will be here. I could see that as a positive and a way to actually improve their reputation with players around the league. The Bills will treat you fairly would be the takeaway. It may well be but how many big deals get negated in the first 3 years? The only way that happens is if Byrd doesn't live up to the deal both this year and next. Even if injured next year he would certainly get year 2 to show he had recovered and more than likely even year 3 as the first would be dismissed as it takes time to get your game back. The chances of him not getting at least 3 years completed are infinitesimally small to me. Now there may be a steep cliff after the first 3 years but I would be surprised if it dropped to 4 mill as KTD estimated.
  10. Safety is one of those positions that is becoming more valuable instead of less. Much like TE and opposite of RB. As the league trends more to a passing style it makes sense that they would and will become more expensive to keep. I put some info earlier in this thread that there is money to sign Byrd without it causing too much trouble down the road as well. I'll agree with your player comparisons and that Byrd doesn't play like them except for Reed. Both of them were much more ball hawks than they were that extra lb. Reed was a roamer and had amazing ball skills. Much of that had to do with the talent in front of him. Polamalu was the rare blend of hard hitter/ball hawk that Thomas may also turn out to be.
  11. Am I reading this wrong? Doesn't this say McDonalds has the best wings?!!?!?
  12. That is what I thought. I would think this would be great move for the Bills. It would fill a definite need and push down the priority of drafting one at 9. It would certainly give them options heading into the draft.
  13. I'm not sure. I'm also wondering, in conjunction with this, since he has been cut is he free to negotiate now? Or does he have to wait until March 11th as well?
  14. Philly is notorious for not caving to players fwiw. This deal is an incredibly rich one for Peters which is why it likely got done. 5 years and 50+ million invested in a guy who has 2 blown out achilles in his past, is 32, and has only played one full season since 2006.
  15. Yeah but being wrong never mattered to the media. This story is a total win for them. Either genus drafted to high because he is gay or too low. There will be no that is where he should have gone. Gotta generate clicks!
  16. Oh I agree 100% they were just the only 2 characters I feel that drove the show. The father had a good arc as well now that I think about it but didn't he die?
  17. Man do I agree! It went like this: 1st season - wow have you seen this show it is awesome I can't wait to see what happens! 2nd season - yeah I watch it but it isn't as good as it used to be 3rd -     4th - did they do a fourth? The carnival was brutal. I don't even remember too much about this show other than how awesome it started and then how bad it got. That to me means no show. They were the show and the characters that mattered most. Save the cheerleader save the world. Skylar's arc was a very interesting one as he battled with being good or bad. The cheerleaders wish to be normal and dealing with being a teen. The rest was just noise to me.
  18. I think you will see him re-sign with the team. According to the article he was playing less than 30 snaps a game and making 8.5 million. That isn't really a shocking cut.
  19. Alright so to compare apples to apples using the same sample size 4 out of 8 haven't been successful in the NFL. 1) Yes it did but what is to say the T A&M system isn't the same? Swope's medical history didn't allow us to see whether or not he would be succesful and to date nobody else has gone from Sumlin's system while he has been a hc. 2) While that is true that is an incredibly small sample size, and I wouldn't be comfortable claiming it will always be true. 3) Are there stats to back this up? I've seen it a few times and wondered if there was a way to verify it. I'm not saying it is wrong just want some facts. I won't dispute that the SEC puts out a lot of great talent each year but the part of your argument that I take exception to is that he succeeded in the SEC he will also do so in the NFL. That to me is too much like the player x went school y and they don't produce good qbs argument. Also according to drafttek the top corner from the SEC is the 6th best cb in the draft for fwiw. So again defense is really not as strong as it used to be in the SEC. WOW! That would be a helluva off season for him. From a 5th rounder at the Senior Bowl to 1st rounder after the combine?!!? Cha-Ching!
  20. This makes my top 10 things said on tbd that I disagree with list. It most certainly does. Maintenance and preparation of these athlete's bodies allows them to be much more healthy if done correctly. Look at some of the things Chip Kelly implemented in Philly and listen to what McCoy has to say about them. For a different sport look at the Phoenix Suns training staff. They are widely recognized as the best in all of sports and they routinely have great recovery and low injury count.
  21. I did a bit of digging on this subject to see who potentially would be cost if they signed Byrd. In 2015 the contracts of Erik Pears, Kevin Kolb, Fred Jackson, Sanborn, Legursky, Moeaki, Moorman, Hairston, Lee Smith, and Easley will be up. All of them can be replaced with younger cheaper options saving money for the bigger name players that will be up including Spiller, Dareus, A Williams, and Hughes. In 2016 the contracts of Tj Graham, Bradham, Dennis Dixon, Ramses Barden, and potentially Ron Brooks could all be replaced with cheaper younger options. This would save money for Gillmore, Glenn, and potentially Robey. In 2017 a ton of money becomes available as K Williams, S Johnson, M Lawson, A Branch, and Urbik will be off the books. This would leave money for Manuel (if he deserves it), Woods, Alonso, and Goodwin. Only Eric Wood and Mario Williams have contracts that run until 2018. So nobody of consequence needs to be lost if the Bills work their deals right. Each year money is freed up allowing some contracts to be signed as well as allowing for the money of the Byrd deal. This doesn't even add in the factor of the cap going up each year. This thought of them losing xyz is wrong imo. Obviously everyone can't get paid but living in fear of losing players handcuffs you in the present. The veterans that contribute but aren't stars are the ones that should be replaced with younger cheaper talent each year, not the studs being replaced with high draft picks. This allows your players that are worth big investments to play along side great players that are still on their rookie deals. THAT is how you build a winner.
  22. This was my first thought. The first year with #3 coming back and Dale Jr takes it down? Couldn't be scripted better.
  23. I;m surprised they didn't try to jump them over cuse
  24. While of course he isn't the only reason I can think of a multiple year stretch where the BIlls were placing 10+ guys on IR. This speaks directly to the failures of a training staff. Marrone and Whaley to a certain extent have been put in control. They also are the ones who will receive the blame if things don't get better. Their options should be more than deal with it or quit. More than likely that kind of ideology from management leads to the loss of a lot of good/talented people.
