  1. Evan Mathis is the best comparison to Richie in my mind and last year he over played his hand. He was offered and turned down a 5.5 million deal to play for a contender. He was a pro bowler and 2nd ranked pff og. So that is starting rate for Richie. Add in that he has several off field issues and I have to think the Bills are pushing for the 4 million a year range. Richie probably wants closer to that 5.5. I want them to keep RI but do NOT under any circumstance want to keep him at 5.5 for 3 or so years. Neither of those numbers are good for the Bills.
  2. Big Cat has answered a lot including me at least not completely excusing Rex from the performance of the D. I am just proposing that he was one of the factors not the only factor. I think Mario quitting was huge and Rex's lack of response was also an issue. I think holding up getting torched by Brady is a poor example as Brady regularly does that to Buffalo including in 2014. The last game of the year in 2014 is being discounted due to the sitting players including Brady at half. I will say this though and it is pure conjecture on my part - Rex gave the league the blueprint to beat the Pats* this year. When The Bills and Pats played a 2nd time the Pats got their record to 10-0. After that game they finished 3-5. Injuries did play a part but Rex certainly laid a blueprint down in holding them to 20 points. That was their lowest points scored all year to that point and was the 2nd least allowed all year (Den 18 in AFCCG). The defense wasn't as good in 2015 as 2014 and Rex admitted part of that was trying to play 2 defenses instead of his. I think the injuries played a huge role in that as well. As for Kiko this year showed how him missing in 2014 wasn't as big a deal as we thought as he wasn't as good as any of us thought. Dareus made similar comments in tc then manned up and played hard. Nobody is questioning his effort. Mario quitting and having questionable ethic for a 2nd team is going to be a problem for him going forward. He will certainly get paid but I don't think he will be as sought after this go around as he was last time. His contract certainly won't be anywhere near what it was last time.
  3. This is my hope. The draft is deep in a lot of the positions the Bills need. A trade down or even 2 would net some 2nd and 3rd round picks that could be very good players. Trade Cin gets 19 and 174 overall, Buf gets 24 and 87. Bills would still likely have a crack at elite DL and LB talent while picking up an extra 3rd. There are a lot of players grouped right where Buffalo is. I am really rooting for a trade down or 2 this year.
  4. He doesn't strike me as a hanger on a la Fredex. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hang it up. If he doesn't he likely is looking for a contender with an established back. He can do a lot of damage in a limited role imo.
  5. You are way too smart of a fan to put this simply on Ryan. Everyone on the defense got worse because their numbers didn't equal 2014 and that is soley Rex's fault? Kyle Williams 6 games in 2015 15 in 2014. Does that effect the defense? Or does missing a pro bowl dt for more than half the season not effect the defense at all? Aaron Williams 3 games in 2015 15 in 2014. Does that effect the defense? Or does missing your best safety for 3/4 of the season not effect the defense at all? Stephon Gilmore 12 games in 2015 14 in 2014. Does that effect the defense? Or does missing your #1 Cb for an extra 2 games not effect the defense at all? Nigel Bradham 11 games in 2015 14 in 2014. Does that effect the defense? Or does missing one of your best lbs and being forced to start UDFA not effect the defense at all? That is 28 games missed just from 4 MAJOR contributors to the 2014 defense. That doesn't include losing Searcy to FA, Wynn to IR, and McKelvin to his injury recovery. It also doesn't include the half assing of Mario for the ENTIRE year. The defense wasn't as good as any of us hoped but to lay it solely at Rex's feet is lazy at best and doesn't account for all of the other variables. For as bad as Rex supposedly is he coached the Jets (with one of the worst cb situations in the league) to 6th in 2014 - 2 behind the Bills, 11th in 2013 - 1 behind the Bills running Pettine's/his defense, 8th in 2012, 5th in 2011, 3rd in 2010). So what is more likely? He is a terrible coach that doesn't know how to coach defense? Or injuries and learning a new scheme played a large part in the regression of the defense? This team has made brain dead penalties for too long to place them at Rex's feet lol. I do agree that he doesn't publicly hold them accountable and it appears privately either. I can't disagree with any of your post. There comes a certain point where you are defencing your guys anymore you are excusing and thus allowing their behavior. I wonder if he will learn from this but don't think he will as he has been doing it this way for so long. He leans on his leaders to do that. When the leader of the d line is the biggest culprit of dogging it he didn't appear to have an answer. Ray Lewis held people in check in Baltimore and likely David Harris (although less demonstratively) in NY. Kyle Williams loss looms large in this role and I think the first NE game was evidence that Aaron Williams wasn't ready to be that guy yet either.
  6. gutless is nothing more than hyperbole. Maybe he hoped the effort would come. Maybe Rex thought that as the season went on Mario would realize the quitter label would be troublesome for him, maybe Rex thought a $100 million player couldn't possibly dog it all year long, maybe Rex thought that Mario was his best option, maybe Rex didn't want to play IK more than he absolutely had to. Rex should have benched him, that we are in total agreement. The reason why he didn't we can only guess at. The most common defense and one I can't disagree too strongly with is who else were they going to play? Lavar Edwards or IK Enkempali? Having coached in the past it is a delicate thing to handle your best player that doesn't give full effort. I always favored try hard players over elite talent that dogged it. Then again I was coaching u19 boys travel soccer teams not millionaire professional men. I didn't have millions of people judging my every decision lol.
  7. The Dolphins "highlight" has to be the most alarming. The constant defense was that he only checked out after the Jax game. As this shows it started long before that. Oops here it is again. One of these highlights was from the Fins game that was before the bye. He dogged it all year long which is in concert with Ty Dunne's article quoting a player saying it started in tc. That would lean more on Mario had already made up his mind more so than the scheme is at fault.
  8. I haven't seen it lol The most I have seen is people suggesting he gets a fitz like deal. Which after seeing what Cousins and Bradford are getting is a pipe dream. Hell Fitz himself will likely command 12-15 million after last year which is ridiculous.
  9. Pro -EJ guy here. Not a TT hater. Love what TT did this year. Can't wait to see more of him next year. I will fully admit to part of the reason I believe in EJ is because he seems like such a nice genuine guy I'd like to see him succeed. You are correct though about what people are proposing. There are really only 2 main sentiments in this thread. Give TT a bridge deal or wait for him to prove himself and then re-sign him. That Bradford deal is ridiculous. Has a player ever made more money doing less? It also causes the going rate for QBs in that middle tier to elevate both their expectations and what they will ultimately get. If he plays as well or better next year I think the reality is he will cost 15+ million which is ridiculous. If Cousins can get franchised, Bradford can sign that ridiculous deal, and Osweiller gets anywhere over 10 million, then that doesn't bode well for TT coming in cheap at all.
  10. Let me preface my comment by saying obviously I love the Bills. That said as much as I loved that he signed here there was a pit in my stomach about why. Why would he sign with a team that hadn't sniffed contention in a decade. Then the reports of the fridge came out, then the other locker room issues. Mario isn't going to a contender. He is going to whoever throws the most money at him period. The Redskins game did it for me. I own a Mario jersey. I think he is a very good player. He absolutely dogged it all day long. I purposely paid attention to him on every snap as I couldn't believe what I was seeing. If you have access to all 22 please go back and check it out. It is for lack of a better word, disgusting the effort he put forth. Mario was supposed to be a team leader. He was supposed to be our Reggie White. He ended up being a quitter. He ran away from Houston and their 3-4. Want to guess who the D Coordinator was?
  11. Quite simple really. SS, FS, etc. are generally hitting and taking hits from people the same size as them. QBs are absorbing hits from people that could outweigh them by up to a 100 lbs or more.
  12. I still want Cardale. I'm very happy it looks like he may be available in the 3rd or 4th. He has all of the tools and here he would have the opportunity to sit and learn. If he can get the mental aspect of the game down he will be scary good.
  13. I would prefer to avoid the tag situation altogether. Franchise tag for a qb is north of 20 million. I wouldn't want to pay that to Tyrod unless he straps the Bills on his back. Not play well enough to win but be the difference and reason they win. I would prefer floating him a few extra million next year and add an additional year. Then the contract can be renegotiated if the circumstances you describe happen. This would allow the team to avoid using the tag and be insurance for both sides. All of this of course is assuming that Tyrod is interested in talking deal, if he wants to bet on himself the Bills have no choice but to let him play out next year. All of this said I wouldn't be working on this until I had the rest of the off season taken care of. I like that they floated it but don't want to see them do it too quickly this off season. Russell Wilson signed his deal last off season for 4 years 87.5 million. He threw for 217 ypg, same amount of tds in 2 more games, and had a slightly lower completion % than Tyrod had this year. Over his career to that point He averaged 207.3 ypg. Was it a mistake for the Seahawks to sign him? IF and it is a big IF Tyrod is resigned it will be because of what they think he will be not what he is right now. Unless you think he is a finished product.
  14. Tyrod is effectively now on a 1 year deal. I don't want him to have the option of hitting free agency next year. I would rather sign him to an extra year or 2 with a bump in pay. The bridge idea that everyone keeps floating is best case scenario for both the team and Tyrod. It gives him security after next year if he regresses or (heaven forbid) gets hurt and it gives the Bills time to work out exactly what he is and what he should be paid. It seems like a no brainer and I have no idea how people don't like this idea.
  15. This has turned into a bit of a joke thread and some of them are quite hilarious. That said Sanborn did not play well last year. So many snaps were off target especially to the Punter. I would like to see the Bills target a Center in the draft that can be depth for Wood, eventually take over for him, and handle the long snapping duties. Someone like Jack Allen in the 3rd who could provide depth at a bunch of positions on the line while waiting to take over or someone later on in the draft like Graham Glasgow.
  16. I was going to post but as usual someone beat me to it lol. High priced free agents on Bills: Charles Clay Mario Williams Drafted Starters: Watkins Woods Wood Glenn Miller Whichever RT is starting Dareus K Williams Brown Bradham Darby Gilmore A Williams 13 of 22 positions are drafted including 4 of 5 o-lineman, both starting wrs, dts, and cbs, and 2 trades (McCoy and Hughes). That leaves Felton, Tyrod, Lawson, Rambo, and Graham who were all signed to reasonable deals. The depth of the team also includes tons of drafted players like McKelvin, Robey, and Karlos.
  17. I dove into this story as he is one of my favorite non-bills players. From what I have found it appears he told his family and Caldwell before the season it would be his last. At the end of the year Caldwell told him to take some time. Most people FEEL he hasn't changed his mind. I'm not saying this won't happen but it is no more definite than it was when it was originally floated in early January.
  18. I know I'm about a month late but I think the most overlooked change in the defenses was Brandon Spike's absence. He brought a distinct attitude to the defense that wasn't there this year.
  19. I will grant you the penalties. There is no excuse for that. However the roster was not at all similar. Maybe at the start of the year but kyle Williams, leodis, and Aaron Williams all missed significant time this year. That is a pro bowler, a starting safety, and the #2 cb from last year. Add in gillmore and Bradham missing games and we are at half the defense being different for a big chunk of the year.
  20. Weeelllll a democratic socialist isnt the same as a socialist. That said I'm not tied to voting for either party. Unfortunately I am at an age where I have only been able to vote for the last 4 elections. Each time I was forced to pick the person based on not wanting the other guy in the white house. My vote for gore and Kerry was a vote against bush. My vote for McCain was because Obama was not qualified in my mind to be president. My vote for Obama was a vote against Romney who was a terrible candidate and it was revealed after didn't even want to run. I can actually get behind some of what Bernie says. Universal health care is extremely important to me. People are acting like Bernie getting into the white house would turn the us into communist russia. I find that to be nothing more than fear mongering. Not all parts of socialism are bad just like not all parts of capitalism are good.
  21. The bolded is true on both sides. I am at a complete loss that Donald Trump is still relevant in this election. Bernie Sanders is a much better option for the white house than HRC. As a dem he will be getting my vote. I absolutely can't vote for HRC. On the republican side there are not any good options. Trump still being relevant is very damning to the republican party imo. The fact that this complete buffoon can not only last through several debates but also come out on top is making the republican party a joke. Much like HRC still being touted as a favorite is making the dems look like a joke. This entire thread is filled with a lot of snark about how bad Bernie would be. 59 pages in I'd like to ask who is a better option? HRC - liar is about the nicest thing you can say about her Trump - zero political experience, lots of ideas and no plan to execute them, the most out of touch candidate imo Rubio - numerous corruption scandals and a flip flopper on pretty much everything including his religion Cruz - smarmy and disliked are 2 words you hear often about him O'Malley - No traction, not well liked in his own state, a tax history that is worrisome. Who is left? Which of the above names do you support?
  22. While I agree he has done well with the offense.... Clock management cost them multiple games this year. I can understand some fans being upset the he is receiving a promotion. Put it this way, if he is promoted and the DC stays the same, why get rid of coughlin? It could stand to reason that this will make the coaching staff worse not better which should be the idea in parting ways with your hc.
  23. So he owns the first winning record in a decade? This year the team is likely headed for 8-8 if not 9-7 again. Even if they end 7-9 he would be .500 for the last 2 years. You're right though let's run him out of town he's terrible...
  24. I loved Keller Moore in college. I wanted the Bills to draft him. I think he could be Dalton level but the Lions had Stafford and I have no idea what he is now. I'm happy with tyrod now but would have loved Moore on this team for the last few years.
  25. This is very far from the truth. 2. Jason smith bust 4. Aaron curry out of the league quickly 6. Andre smith man boobs himself If you want to go after the Bills pick: 16. Larry English 17. Josh freeman 24. Peria jerry All busts. I even left out players that are still in the league but didn't live up to potential like Tyson jackson, Mark sanchez, and Darrius Heyward bay that went before maybin.
