So did you skip the majority of the post that included stats? Wilson is not a great passer by any stretch of the imagination. In 4 1/2 years he has 6 300 yard games. That is over the course of 70 games. Add in the playoffs and he has 8 games over 80. So 1 in 10 games he will throw for 300 yards. The comparison wasn't made because of height or running ability it was made because of their passing ability and perception. I'm sure you would love Wilson to be the QB of the Bills. Until he was.

This is as good a place as any to put this: What would you say if I told you there was a starter currently in the league that is in his 5th year starting, had 1 300 yard passing game in his first 19 starts, has 6 300+ yard passing games in his 4 1/2 years in the league, and has a career average of 221 ypg? Would you want this guy as your starter? What about a guy who has 5 tds to 1 int this year, has led his team to an average of 19.5 ppg, and 3 times led his team to 12 or fewer points, and cost 18.2 million against the cap this year? Would you want this guy as your starter? This guy is Russell Wilson and most everyone here would love to have him as the starter. Tyrod may not be Wilson yet but it isn't far fetched to think he can be (the numbers aren't far off when you compare the starts of their careers) or that you can win with this type of production as evidenced by Wilson. You can win a Super Bowl even as Peyton and Wilson have demonstrated recently. Tyrod certainly has some growth to do and he can certainly be better but he isn't the worst qb in the league or even really close to it. His is a middle of the road starter and could potentially grow into much more. This hand wringing because he didn't jump in and start going stat crazy needs to stop. His record as a starter is 12-9. Watch some other games around the league and you will realize that we could be much worse off.

I don't have a good feeling about this week. The fins game not only laid a blueprint, it may have exposed the Bills as well. The Pats* have an incredibly well rounded offense. They can stretch the field, they can play the short passing game, or they can pound the ball. Whatever a team struggles to stop the Pats* will focus on. The poor tackling yesterday was frightening to see. There were several times the Bills had Ajayi wrapped up or stopped and he broke the tackle. Even Damien freaking Williams got stopped at the 5 and carried defenders into the end zone. Pats* get back Brady and Ninkovich from the last time they played. The Bills get Shaq Lawson and lose Shady. I hate to be doom and gloom I just don't see how the Bills win this game. However, Sunday morning I will be convinced the Bills will win. Right now I see an ugly game and ugly final score.

Even removing Seifert still places him at #5 just for his era before the discussion of guys like Dan Reeves or Marty Schottenheimer or Mike Ditka or Jim Mora. If one was inclined to make a list of the top coaches of all time I think Marv would have a hard time cracking the top 20-25. However to knock Seifert based on Holmgren and Shanahan is something I won't agree with. Yes he did inherit a great team and had a great coaching staff but that can't be a knock on someone. Who is to say Holmgren and Shanahan (also not a great coach - rode Elway's coat tails imo) are as successful as they were without Seifert's teaching them? Does Marv get credit for Ted Marchibroda and Jim Kelly who ran the Bills offense? I don't want to go too far down this rabbit hole as I love Marv and all he did for the Bills I just don't view him as a great coach.

No I don't think he was a great coach. He had a great collection of talent but just looking at who he lost to in the SBs would you rank Marv over Parcells, Gibbs, or Jimmy Johnson? I don't think he was a terrible coach by any means but I don't think he is in the pantheon of great coaches in the league. I love Marv but even in his era I don't think he was a top 5 coach. Shula, Parcells, Gibbs, BIll Parcells, and George Seifert all go in front of him. He is on the Schottenheimer level of very good coach but not great imo.

I hate to be conspiracy theory guy but this is what I have thought for a long time now. I think the Pats* got caught cheating again and that is why the team took the punishment. No way Kraft lays down a first round pick and money for no reason or to be a good soldier. It has always sat wrong with me that the spygate tapes were immediately destroyed. What was the point of that unless there was more to it than we know. A second go round of cheating and I could see the league office and other owners not being happy about it. If you recall the week before Brady was incredibly smug about "maybe they need to learn the rule book" with their substitutions and eligible receivers in the Ravens game. Ultimately I can't see the league digging in on this issue for no reason. It makes more sense to me that they are digging in but not disclosing the true reason as it would be bad for the league than just to get Brady and the Pats*. I want to start with I agree that Brady is great and a first ballot lock. Now to say they would have done nothing without Brady is a bit of revisionist history. In the first SB win he went 16-27 for 145 yards. In the next 2 he played very well but all 3 games were 3 point or less wins. In the 4th the Seahawks blew it. So 2 Super Bowls were won on Vinatieri's leg and 2 sealed by the defense. I agree that Alex Smith isn't Tom Brady but I do think that he has been aided throughout his career by playing for (imo) the best coach of all time. They make each other so I won't say that his success is all BB or vice versa just that he landed in a perfect spot for a QB and he took that opportunity and ran with it. I think if you switch Manning and Brady the conversation switches about which is clutch and which is a playoff choker. Brady always had the better coach and most years had the better team.

That was an off season trade with a bunch of caveats that don't apply to a Marshall trade. 1. off season trade 2. The Pats* had a qb in waiting 3. IMO they knew that Bledsoe wasn't a difference maker at that point in his career 4. It involved a 1st round pick - Marshall isn't garnering anywhere near that. You had to go back 10+ years to find a good example which kind of goes along with my point of I don't think it will be in the division if he is traded (I would be shocked if he is - maybe this off season at the earliest imo)

Alshon Jeffery has struggled with injury problems himself. Could you imagine having that much money tied up in a position with guys who weren't on the field? He is a great player. When healthy. Would love it but even if he is available as Kirby said I don't see the Jets trading him in the division.

I did some digging as this conversation piqued my interest. 19 carries a game equals out to 304 carries in a 16 game season. In 2015 only 1 rb had more than that In 2014 only 2 rbs had more than that (Shady was one) In 2013 only 1 rb (Shady) had more than that In 2012 5 rbs had more than that In 2011 only 1 rb had more than that In 2010 7 rbs had more than that It (surprisingly to me at least) doesn't appear that most rbs do average 19 carries a game. There is still a lot of football left so his total could go up or down but I came to 2 conclusions: 1. Shady has proven that this workload can be handled by him as he has done it twice in the past 2. Running Back By Committee really has taken the league by storm as I went back for team carries to 2010 and every single team in the league every year was over 20 carries a game. 19 carries a game actually is a lot in the current NFL.

I think what Big Cat was getting at (and he can correct me) was that the Rex issue was unrelated to the Mario issue. Mario sucked last year and it is on Mario that he sucked. It seems he is positing that Mario is to blame for Mario and Rex is to blame for the units overall failing not the failures of Mario individually.

I have to say I have seen a lot of one game at a time mentality from all sides. Rex, the players, even the fans. I have been tuning into John Murphy on my ride home (app) and it has been refreshing to hear the players. Sunday - watch the 1pm (or whenever Bills are on), have the 4pm game on but doing things around the house (unless I am too drunk from the Bills game, watch the Sunday Night game in its entirety or until I fall asleep Monday - watch the entire game stressing out about fantasy Tuesday - Waiver wire for fantasy Wednesday - see who I and others got off the waiver in fantasy Thursday - the entire game Friday - obsess about fantasy and tinker Saturday - maybe Bama or Cuse, usually the big Saturday night game. I would add week 11 as a possibility. If the Bengals get it turned around and the Packers continue to look like garbage that is. The Bills would also have to still be on their roll. I don't think it will happen but 11, and 13 are small possibilities, week 17 if it is for the playoffs is another possibility. The Rex/Jets, symmetry of last season, and trying to break a 16 year drought would be a lot of story lines for the NFL to sell.

Holy crap! That led me to do some more digging... Shady is 2nd in the NFL in Rushing but 8th in attempts Shady is 2nd in ypc .1 behind Ajayi who has about half of the amount of carries Shady has the 2nd most runs of 20+ yards and is 2nd for runs for a first down Shady is tied for the league lead in tds with 6 Shady is 6th in the league for yards per game from scrimmage. Wow what an impressive 4 game run he is on!

As teams get smaller to defend the quick pass they become vulnerable to the "ground and pound." The Bills zigged when other teams were zagging. It is how Seattle was dominant and how NE has been trending especially now that they have 2 big body tes and blount being used even with Brady's return. The Bills are actually ahead of the curve!

I too think they use the tag on him this year and I am perfectly okay with that. I think that the idea of using the tag on him was why it was so important to get the Tyrod restructure done before the start of the year. Although I don't think Gilmore is worth top 5 money, for 1 year I wouldn't be mad. A long term top 5 money deal would, imo, be a bad business decision. Your post reads as though he needs to be top 5 to be elite and I don't think that is the case. He can be borderline elite/ very good and still not worth top 5 money. Unfortunately the money will likely bear a top 5 contract for him. Some team with a ton of cap space will throw a big deal at him (if not franchised) and he will likely take it. 16 teams have more than 38 million in cap space for the upcoming year. Also your links have not done much for your argument. One had Gilmore as the 11th best cb (at least 2 of the guys on the list haven't played well this year), and the other is from so long ago it has Peanut Tillman (who has since retired) as one of the top cbs in the league.
