On taking Decastro at 10
Packerland Bills Fan replied to BrooklynBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reason to pick DeCastro is that many people have said he's the best guard to enter the draft since Steve Hutchinson in 2001. Nix might take him if he has a similar grade on him and Rieff isn't in the top 20. I wouldn't be upset if they took him at #10. If Floyd is gone I think there'd be a very good chance that he is the pick. The plan at OLT would be to start Hairston, then kick Levitre out if Hairston can't cut it. Drafting an OT in round 2 would remain a possiblity and there are a few potential names out there. Reiff is the safer pick, but DeCastro then an OT in round 2 could make an outstanding OL. It'll be intereseting to see how much of a gambler Nix is. -
Bills Draft with a trade
Packerland Bills Fan replied to Damond Talbot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would be a total shock if the Bills trade down. Not that it would be a bad move for the Bills, but that a competent GM would want to trade up. Even Todd McShay thinks no one will want to trade up to 10: "That's the problem. Anyone can sit here and say, well, how about trade back? I don't know that they can. I don't know that anyone wants to move up to No. 10. My thought is in this draft, what you get at 9, 10, 11, 12, is what you're going to get at 17, 18, 19, 20." -
More Hot Air From Brian Galliford
Packerland Bills Fan replied to Lurker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I usually like what he writes, but I think he's completely missread Buddy Nix. I think that the first pick will be a value pick, one that leaves a lot of people wondering why a higher need position wasn't selected. I like Adams - in round 2. There are a number of other interesting players like James Brown, Zebrie Sanders, Jeff Allen, and Bobby Massie that could go in round 2 that I've seen listed in some publications. It just depends on how the Bills' scouting has graded them. -
The draft doesn't seem to line up well between the Bills needs and the value that's out there. There's been so many misses in the first round I wouldn't complain if they took the best player. DeCastro could be another Reuben Brown.

What does BPA mean for Bills at #10?
Packerland Bills Fan replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really think it's going to be Kuechly, but at MLB. I like Sheppard, and I know the Bills do too, but he seems a better fit inside in a 3-4. Kuechly would be a big impact player in this defense and with the line he has in front of him. -
Buddy's Plan for Left Tackle
Packerland Bills Fan replied to Owen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even though he may be rising, I just can't see Cordy Glenn being worth the 10th pick in the draft. Like Reiff, he may be better suited for guard. The only OT I like in the first round is Kalil and he would cost at least the 2nd round pick to move up to #3 to get him. I've seen the point about LOT's in Super Bowls before, but the missing stat is how many other players those teams tried to fill in at LOT before they found one? The Bills could pick one later and he could turn out to be better than Hairston or he could be another Ed Wang. As far as trading up to take Kalil, what would be lost if only the 2nd round pick was given up? A SLB like Terrell Lewis, maybe? It may be worth it, it might not be. -
B/R Has Bills Taking Upshaw @ 10 !
Packerland Bills Fan replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
10 seems a little high for Upshaw right now, but I remember last year at this time Von Miller was valued in the 20's in a lot of mocks. -
Gailey REALLY should be fired
Packerland Bills Fan replied to BuffaloWest's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think a reincarnated Vince Lombardi could win with the talent on this team. Too many years of missed 1st round picks and not retaining the talent that was developed. -
The Bills should hire Mike Mayock
Packerland Bills Fan replied to jocap55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mike Mayock liked C.J. Spiller in 2010. Here's a couple of samples: "Spiller is a difference maker,'' said NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock. "He's going to be one of the impact players from this draft class." "I think the way you have to look at C.J. Spiller in today's NFL is that he is a playmaker," says Mayock. "I look at C.J. Spiller and I say I don't really care who you have on your roster at the running back position. You can call him (Spiller) anything you want. But he's got three-phase production. You can play him at tailback … split him out wide … put him in the slot, and he also can return kicks and punts." He also had him in his final mock of 2010 going to the Bills. If he had been hired instead of Nix, the results, at least for the 1st round picks, probably would have been the same. -
Expect the Bills to draft 2 DB's next year
Packerland Bills Fan replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who knows who's going to be available to take in the draft at this point. But it's sure looking like a pick in at least the teens. -
I think Easly will pass him at some point this year.

Levitre to compete for LT spot
Packerland Bills Fan replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Nix had selected an OT in the 1st round this year or last, he'd be reaching for one. He could have traded up from the 2nd round, but instead filled a number of needs. The OT situation is a big problem, but I don't have a problem with the direction he's taken in his drafts. He was right to go after Clabo, but he was playing for a Super Bowl contender. I don't know how much you'd have to overpay to get him. Unfortunately that was the best chance to get a real quality one though free agency. A team would have to be very deep to cut a good one. I believe in next year's draft he's going to have to go away from the "take the best available player" stance and go after one more aggressively. The OT position is not one where you can just sit back an have a good one fall to you. Levitre did play OLT in college. It's not the best situation, but could do for the moment. -
I don't root for the Bills to lose, but I do root for other "contenders" for the first pick to win. If you ever watched Carolina last year it's hard to see them winning 3 games next year. I don't think 3 wins is going to get it. The Bills should show some improvement, although the schedule is going to be tough and they're going to have to play a lot of young players. They should win at least 2 more than this year. I can't see them getting the first pick.

Mock drafts ought to be illegal until the season ends. A ranking of the players projected to go in the first round is interesting, though, and gives an idea of who to follow. Hopefully Landry Jones and Matt Barkley rank right up there with Luck and give more options. The Bills were right to give a thorough look at the QB's in this draft. Maybe next year is the year they finally pick one with a first round pick. Who knows how the Bills are going to finish. They're highly dependent on this rookie class making an immediate impact. If training camp is delayed it's going to hold them back. How much is completely unknown, but I don't see a year as bad as this one.
-
According to their own scale, a team that gets 4 or more projected starters out of a draft gets an "A" grade by PFW. I see 4 or 5 starters in this group: Dareus, Williams, Sheppard and Hairston and possibly Searcy. They should have given the Bills an "A". The Bills thought more highly of Sheppard and Searcy than they did, but the Bills coaching staff got a very good look at them because they were on the South squad in the Senior Bowl. I feel good about their selections.

Bills fans are the only ones down on Miller. So many people are calling him one of, if not the safest picks in the draft. I can't blame anyone for expecting the worst. 10 years of lousy drafting will do that to a fan base. I want Dareus more than Miller, though. Getting an opportunity to get a defensive lineman of than caliber doesn't come around very often. He'd make everyone behind him better. Passing on both is another decision we've come to expect from the front office. Hopefully this run of despair ends here.

Probability of a Bills Trade Down Is Real
Packerland Bills Fan replied to dcjoev's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe (and it's an enormous stretch) Cincy trades their #1 next year and we send them our #2, then next year (another huge stretch) the pick either turns out to be #1 overall or adding our own we trade for Luck. Dream the impossible dream. Of course before the 1987 draft, the last time the Bills held the #3 pick going in, I dreamed they would somehow be able to get both Shane Conlan and Cornelius Bennett. Like that could actually happen.... -
If the Panthers take Dareus
Packerland Bills Fan replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it goes Dareus then Miller I think Peterson is the pick. It could be Newton, but my hunch is they don't think he's not enough of a sure think to pick at 3. -
If you read Nawrocki's draft book, however, you wouldn't want any of those 3 players. Way too much bust potential. Fairley is dropping due to some of those concerns. Heyward is over hyped. Wilson is a work out wonder who doesn't seem that instinctive. Dareus has some concerns too, but may just need a demanding position coach. Von Miller he absolutely loves and has us taking him. He graded him at the Calvin Johnson, Adrianne Peterson level.

Sanders is from Erie. He may be interested in playing close to home. The medical staff would have to give him a thorough check, but it could be a good fit.

I'm tired of seeing this team stink year after year. It's rare that a team wins a Super Bowl without an elite QB and it's rare that you get an opportunity to draft one. If Newton is one then get him. But don't miss. You figure a year of sitting and watching, then another 3-4 years of given every opportunity to play will mean a lot more losing.
