I think it's fair of the NFL to assume that painting the field is going to be a mundane task unlikely to make the surface unplayable. They don't paint the field days ahead of time and it's not NFL personnel in control of the field. Is it a mistake for the NFL to rely on city/team/stadium personnel to perform their tasks of getting a field ready and not contracting their own employees...perhaps, but that's a rather large change to the way it's been done for a long time and has been successful for the vast majority of it. Overreacting by making such sweeping changes would be irresponsible of the NFL despite the black eye. It's not a failure if your failsafe was triggered. It's a failsafe to prevent the failure from occurring. They had an appropriate process to prevent players from playing the game which could have impacted their health.

The NFL's protocol didn't fail, it suceeded. The responsible party was not able to present a usable field at game time. The NFL's protocol prevented the game from being played as a usable surface wasn't present. Some of you with the everything ever is Goodell's fault really need to take a step back.

I'm not a fan of the player's mom saying they should have pulled an Eli because that's overall harmful to players and the league in the interest of 1 rookie who may or may not do anything, but I don't get why this is the hill the Chargers have chosen to die on. As for Spanos, his charity efforts don't necessarily mean anything without knowing how much of it he writes off...or how much it is compared to others who have a similar amount of wealth. If I donate 10% of my worth and he donates 10% of his worth...well, news stories will get written about Spanos.

He can also block pretty well and catch. His health is key. If he's on the field, it allows the Bills to potentially do different things that teams have to account for on defense.

Don't know why this is even a concern. He was terrible in camp last season and was fine. There are also players every year who have a bad/good camp and the panic/overrating always fades.
