I think the difference is a private function versus a public function. I'm not sure what the rules are up there, but if they're within the compliance of the local rules for the number of people at a private function, it seems like it would be difficult for the NFL to enforce something in regards to private functions because every player who has family/friends over for the holidays would end up being punished. For example, Dwayne Haskins likely could have avoided trouble if he had simply had the strippers come to his room and adhered to local restrictions regarding the number of people in a gathering instead of actually going to the strip club.

Even if you don't believe McDermott is much more central to the team's success than Daboll (spoiler: he is).. firing the head coach of a playoff team for one of his coordinators would be dysfunction to such an extreme level that the job would be poison for years and years. On top of that, Daboll would never accept and still leave because you don't want to be the guy who took a HC job as a coordinator from another coach.
