Look at teams like the Jets who had to eat a ton of dead cap just to get Trumaine Johnson off the team. Look at the defensive line, the Bills brought in quick, penetrating players and it backfired. The league changed how they call holding which disproportionately affects these type of players and Star's covid opt out caused them a lot of problems. Now the salary cap drop which pre-covid no one could have predicted and Beane has given himself enough flexibility to maneuver. That's how you can compete year after year.
