Had this almost exactly during the exact same time frame. All of January and some of February with an awful dry cough and eventually after coughing so hard for so long my chest and stomach were aching terribly. Only difference was I didn't seem to have a fever, though I never checked so I suppose it could have been a mild one. Not sure if it was Covid but I suppose it easily could have been. I don't know anyone who has been confirmed but I know a lot of people in the "was very sick in January" category and some of those did test negative for the flu. Would be nice if they can get an antibody test widely available so people like us who might have had it could know and maybe have some anxiety about getting it again relieved.

Right, Frank wanted the work done for the land piece of the casino to be union workers but Marty had to agree to use non union after promising the union work to Frank to close the deal with the gaming commission IIRC. Frank found out and firebombed the office as payback on that. The season starts with the casino up and running and their offices repaired with some deal already cut with Frank and the mob so we can assume they worked it out in some way. Just thought it odd that they didn't mention it at all even if just as a passing comment or something between characters. I was thinking maybe I missed something since that was a big piece of the finale but based on some comments in the thread I guess it was glossed over by their writers. Still an excellent season though like others have stated.

Quick question for those who finished season 2 and at least started 3.... Did the show address at all the fact that the Byrde's office was fire bombed by Frank and the KC mob the end of season 2? Maybe I am mis-remembering how that went down in season 2 but it seemed kind of odd to me that season 3 just starts with them working with Frank and the KC mob without any mention of how things had unfolded in season 2. I feel like there is some resolution/negotiation piece missing that would have connected the dots better between the two seasons. Thoughts?

For hot dog joints Ted's is pretty good but I am a Zorbas guy myself. That is my "must-visit" when back in the Buffalo area. As for hot dog brands I have been converted into a Hofmann guy since moving to the Syracuse area. Nothing like a Hofmann coney with some spicy mustard fresh off the grill.

Favorite fast food places not available in WNY
Metal Man replied to Jrb1979's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I guess there is the possibility that Haddie B's to the Nashville locals is how most WNY folks view Anchor Bar. If I make it to Nashville again this season I might have to venture out to some local suggestions for hot chicken to put that to the test. Haddie B's was great though. I can usually handle things on the hot side but for my visit there I only chose "Hot" for my heat level which was still two levels from the hottest, just below "Damn Hot" and "Shut the Cluck Up". I think I made the right choice as it was extremely spicy but not quite too hot too eat and enjoy. Definitely a different hot than wing sauce. I believe it was cayenne pepper based. In any case it was very good stuff. -

Well I will officially remove that from my list. They do a good job of advertising, at least good enough for me that I always felt the need to try it. -

I always hit Earl of Sandwich any time I am in a city that has one. I also have been thinking about Haddie B's hot chicken since going to Nashville for the Bills game last fall. That stuff was delicious. Every SU game I have watched this season had commercials for a fast food place called Zaxbys. Never heard of it before that but the food looked pretty good, at least on TV. Any one of those 3 coming up North to WNY or CNY would be great. -
I'm just glad the Bills got in a couple times with the old format to break the streak. It would have been rough to finish the drought by sneaking in as one of the new 7s for me. It just never would have seemed as legit in my mind.

Ha, no doubt engineers are a different breed. We are an informal shop, hoodies/jeans are more the norm, so I suppose that plays into it too. Good employees with solid experience have been difficult for us to find so for me a polo would be more than enough of a sign of respect if we really valued the person. We had the ghosting thing happen a couple of years ago. Kid just didn't want to do the work that new people typically start out with because he was bored with it. Didn't seem to get that everyone starts out somewhere and you have to prove yourself before you get put on the best projects, again the entitlement thing. In any case he just took some PTO one week and then never came back. I've been out of college and in my career for 20 years now so I guess things have changed a lot as I was just happy to be employed and earning a decent salary when I got my first job.

I work as an engineer for a defense contractor and perform interviews all the time. I can say for me and my coworkers we really couldn't care less about how dressed up someone is. It surprises me that someone would discount a very qualified candidate based on not having a suit on or not being dressed up "enough". I have found the main problem interviewing today's out of college kids is that they come in with a sense of entitlement thinking they have already earned the best positions just by completing a program. When asked about having any interest in learning and working with a certain newer technology I actually had a guy answer "Not really". I guess the approach of appearing eager to do whatever is asked of you from a prospective new employer is outdated now.

FYI, Yankees lost the series but it wasn't a sweep. Also you can't really say the cheating didn't help at all. Yankees were only 8 games back in the final standings so even if it only helped in some of Boston's home games it could have been enough to give them the division title therefore changing how the entire postseason played out.

That's right. I remember the back ones now too. As a teenager it was always those, Galleria or Thruway Mall theaters for me and my friends when we went to the movies. I remember that restaurant too and seem to recall a tornado actually touching ground there and messing it up back in the early 90s.

Was Holiday 1/2 those two monster screens, (for the time), on Union in Cheektowaga? I was too young to remember where I saw the original Star Wars but I saw Aliens and Pulp Fiction on those big Holiday screens. You couldn't beat the experience of that place back in the day.

Anybody get through the Witcher yet on Netflix? -
Agree with these takes 100%. It seems like the only purpose of that entire part of the movie was that Finn needed something to do.

This movie connects much more directly to Force Awakens than Last Jedi which makes sense seeing JJ is back at the helm. I enjoyed the new movie but I can see why it will be divisive. JJ spends a lot of time trying to steer the ship back into his direction and I thought the narrative suffers a bit. It is almost like he had to squeeze two movies into this one and as a result the first 45 minutes are like watching something on fast forward. All that being said it was a fun movie and I'd think most old school Star Wars fans will at least be satisfied with it if not over the top in love with it. I am interested to start seeing more of the fan takes. The critics are pretty useless these days as a gauge as they all seem to have some kind of an agenda.

2019 Playoffs. 1st round
Metal Man replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dallas has been a mystery so it isn't too crazy of a thought though I'd feel better about it if it wasn't on turkey day. The only thing I know for certain is how I have all of the games predicted in the playoff machine right now will NOT be how it looks after week 17. Hopefully all the surprises work in Buffalo's favor though. -
2019 Playoffs. 1st round
Metal Man replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The ESPN tool is a lot of fun to mess around with. Worst scenario I uncovered was the Bills getting to 11-5 and missing the playoffs. Wasn't that difficult really as the Steelers and Raiders have an easier path than the Bills. It basically all came down to that Bills/Steelers game in week 15. Assuming the Bills stay competitive that game is going to be a big one. -
Indy was 4-12 that year. IIRC the weather actually made it a lot closer of a game than it should have been so it seems like the weather came close to hurting the Bills in this situation since it leveled the playing field against an inferior opponent.

XFL Fires back against Antonio Brown
Metal Man replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That actually wouldn't affect it. Vince sold a ton of his WWE shares to fund a separate entertainment company to oversee the XFL so the two aren't connected at all anymore fiscally. https://www.si.com/wrestling/2019/03/28/wwe-stock-vince-mcmahon-shares-xfl -
This "haven't played anyone" argument is getting old. It is like all of these "experts" forgot what the league is like every year. There are only a few top tier teams and a few bottom tier teams in the NFL who really stand away from the pack. Everyone else is pretty close to each other which is why any given Sunday is a real thing. The Bills separating themselves from that middle tier shouldn't be discounted so quickly. The Titans, Jets and Giants are going to win some games, as well as Miami and Cincy, so lets wait until the end of the season before fully evaluating the strength of the wins. Also the one thing everyone seems to forget is all these teams have one extra loss on their records BECAUSE the Bills beat them.

Mods, can we get a review of the board's SOP? This statement has to be a bannable offense.

Lot 5 was my spot too for a long time. Since I moved out of the area though getting out quicker has been my strategy versus hanging in lot 5 for an hour or so after the game each week and letting the traffic dwindle away. Well that and they stopped letting you park where ever you want in the main lots which made meeting up with the group around the 5 pole a lot tougher.
-
I guess some of the vernacular was lost on me. For 20 some years me and my family/friends have always come to the stadium from the east down Sothwestern so always parked on that side of the stadium. Internally we always called that lot the mud lot and everything on the south side of the stadium was kind a mystery to me. I didn't realize my possible mistake until I looked on google maps and saw that they actually have the lot off of 20a marked as the mud lot. Sad state when google knows more about my home stadium than me.
-
Edit: Just realized you were talking about a different mud lot, off of 20A. I always thought of the mud lot as the one off of Southwestern right next to the main entrance to the Bills lot off of Southwestern. That one gets real muddy too and on some days when it is real bad they only allow SUVs to park there.
