  1. Week 11 vs NYJ

6 cathes 81 yards and 1 TD with Robert Woods and Stevie Johnson out. Carried our offense that day and showed his good hands and ability to run short possession routes...not just the deep burners

Goodwin reminds me of Antonio Brown. I would not be shocked at all if he developed into a #1 or #2 WR

  2. Personally Im not all that interested in him for the Bills.

Hes had a couple good years but I always have seen Jackson as a one trick pony. He's feast or famine. Some of the long ball catches he's had are incredibly lucky and his game by game stats are very inconsistant. Throw in his character issues off the field and his apparent DIVA personality and it makes it a pretty easy call. The dude demanded new contracts at least 2x just a year after signing deals.

Some NFL team is going to jump all over this, and Im sure Jackson will have his moments for them. But I'm more interested in keeping Goodwin and Woods on the field and keeping our locker room stable.

  3. What a brutal month we are having as buffalo sports fans. We watch our iconic goalie leave, one of our best football players leave, our Hall of Fame QB has reoccurring cancer and our Hall of Fame Owner just passed away. Our NHL team is the worst in the league and our football team is on an NFL record 14 straight playoff-less seasons.

I am hoping we already hit rock bottom but Im worried we may not be all the way there yet.

Does this mean things can only get better from this point forward?

  4. I hated the guy whenever we played against him. Wasnt it Eric Wood who said he was intentionally trying to injure someone on our Oline?...cant remember

Anyways..the guy hits like a ton of bricks and theres a reason why he stood out to me as one of the Pats I hated most. Hes not a great player, but hes very good at stopping the run.

    With that said. Welcome aboard!

  5. There is a perfect situation where stats don't tell the whole story. Ed Reed was much more than just an INT guy. He was a strong cover guy, not just a centerfielder and when he hit someone he left a lasting impression on the receiver. When was the last time an opposing player said "Damn, that Byrd really hits hard."

I like Byrd, but I don't think he's worth 9 mil/year. Will he have good stats with the Saints, absolutely, but that's because most teams play from behind when facing NO, so they have to throw the ball a lot more.

As was mentioned earlier in this thread the future rides on QB play, if EJ does not become an above average to great QB, the losing will continue. It has nothing to do with Byrd or any other FA we lost. Right now the Bills are doing nothing more than shoring up some positions that need it. The one position I personally, would like to see a decent FA signing would be WR, in my opinion we don't have enough good weapons for EJ right now.

Your claim lacks any supporting evidence, it is just an opinion. In my opinion, Reed was never known for his hitting, he was known for his elite ball hawking skills and return ability ( the latter being something Byrd does NOT have)

You would think the guy with 11 FF's would be the harder hitter, but thats just assumption.

  6. I like to think there's something in between being a homer and thinking the world is crashing down because the team didn't blow its cap space during the first couple days of free agency. He's not being a homer, he's telling people to relax.

Teams don't win championships through signing free agents, ask the past few winners. To me these look like responsible signings.

The Bills have brought in two former first round picks, 1 at LB, 1 at O-Line, re-sign a clutch kicker, and brought in a Buffalo Native, Super Bowl champion at DB. With more signings possible in the future.

I'm really happy with the Free Agents and think they will strengthen the team and improve the Bills chances of winning.

I really don't get all the pissing and moaning around here.

Byrd wanted to be free. Get over it.

You're right. No homer in any of that. Bottom line is the bills dont deserve the benefit of the doubt that they know what theyre doing. They let a player with future HOF potential walk away and signed 2 bust 1st round picks and a reserve/slot CB with his Salary.

    Just so you know:

    BYRD: 22 INTs 11 FF's 73 games played

    ED REED: 27 INTS 5 FF's 74 games played.

  7. It just gets really hard as a fan to hold any faith in this franchise after 15 years of no playoffs. You see the Bills draft a guy like Byrd in the 2nd round and like most, was wondering WHY ANOTHER DB BUFFALO!!!???? Well that guy turned into a helluva football player and instead of paying him we let him walk out the door a la....Greer, Peters, P Williams, D Whitner, P Posluzny, A Winfield etc....

Just gets really hard when you put it all together to get excited about anything. Every year its disappointment followed by renew hope and optimism that "this year" will be the year we finally get it right...only to be let down with the season over before we even play in December.

    Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

When will it ever change ?

I used to be like you. A Homer. Step outside of the box and look at the big picture. Until the bills win dont keep falling for the same Bull*****

  8. i completely understand your frustration and you make a very good point. But at the end of the day. It's something all teams do. Players leave in Free Agency, you replace then with the best you can. If that person is on the roster, in FA, or in the draft, you do what you can.

All teams have this problem. Some teams get lucky and happen to draft replacements prior to this happening. For example, the Texans parted ways with Mario Williams simply because they found their defensive pass rusher in JJ Watt prior to his release. Other teams are not so lucky, like the Chiefs after the loss of Tony Gonzales. When you have a really good player at a certain position, you always run the risk of losing that player.

It's just the way of the NFL. With all that being said, I really hope we don't draft a FS at #9. Stick with Williams and Meeks and Leonard for the year, maybe draft a mod round talent if he's a steal in the draft. Other than that, we should concentrate on other positions that mean more to this team.

The logic last year was that we let Levitre walk to sign byrd. The logic will now be that we let Byrd walk to sign Dareus Or Spiller....its a repeatable pattern with this organization and its been going on for 10 + years.

  9. Hey look at that--another marquee Bills player leaves town.

Now, I just need a Chris Brown report from mini camp saying Duke Williams looks "quick, explosive, and hungry," interspersed with a quote or two from maybe Gilmore (?) saying that Duke's "a ballhawk", and I'll be texting my friends something along the lines of: "you know, it might not be that bad that Byrd left..."

    Throw into that something along the lines of a laser of a pass from EJ against the Giants third stringers in the second quarter of the hall of fame game (when Marrone keeps him in for an extra quarter,) that results in Woods running in untouched to cut the lead to 17-7;

Mix in an ESPN.com fantasy report saying "Spiller could be one to watch this season as he looks to be fully recovered from a high ankle sprain that limited his explosiveness in 2013"

And add a final touch of the Bills leading for most of game 1, opening week in Miami, only to give up a last second touchdown pass from Tannehil to lose 24-21,

And I estimate that right around October I'll be on here saying:

"if we win or next 7, that week 17 home game against the Jets will be to put us at 9-7 and steal a wild card spot", and Byrd will be a forgotten memory, just like

    Whitner

    Lynch

    Greer

    Poz

    Levitre

    et. al

hahaha your post had me peeing my pants.

  10. This Byrd thing got me wondering about all the failjobs the Bills have had over the years at keeping talent. To summarize (feel free to add others ive missed)

Guys we decided to pay: Fitzpatrick, Kyle Williams (pro bowler), Chris Kelsay, Lee Evans, Fred Jackson, Stevie Johnson, Eric Wood, Leodis McKelvin

Guys we decided not to pay: Pat Williams (pro bowler), Nate Clements (pro bowler), Antoine Winfield (pro bowler), London Fletcher (pro bowler), Jason Peters(pro bowler), Jabari Greer, Paul Pozluszny (pro bowler) , Donte Whitner (pro bowler), Andy Levitre, Jairus Byrd (pro bowler and on pace for HOF career....compare his stats to Ed Reed they are very similar)

Guys we traded for peanuts: Willis Mcgahee (pro bowler), Marshawn Lynch(pro bowler)

The wheels keep spinning and we dont go anywhere. Why? because we sign talent to either exhorborant contract extension (fitz, kelsay) out of line with their performance or we nab them early before they could get more money (K williams)...when it comes to paying our premium talent, its always made out to be that the player is asking for too much or hates buffalo.

This is why we buff a blow.

  11. If the bills dont resign Byrd Im gonna be pissed.

If we dont use the tag on him Im going to be mega pissed, we have the goddamn cap room and the $ to at least tag and trade.

this franchise is going nowhere if they let a player like Byrd get away. PAY THE MAN

  12. Ill give you credit for creativity but the success of your play relies entirely on inept defensive play. Carpenter would obviously be covered by a CB who would trail him across the line of scrimmage to where he would boot the field goal. Also, I find it very unlikely that all downlineman would chase the QB to the opposite sideline without either A. Actually tackling the QB or B. Interfering with the lateral to the snap holder.

I think when you weigh the likelihood of this play working vs the success rate of a hail mary, you'd pick the hail mary

But again, way to think outside the box.

  13. Hakeem nicks hasnt been the same player since his injuries. He went an entire season without catching a touchdown pass and had many alligator arm drops. Hes the type of guy that some stupid team will pay a lot of $ for just based on his size and previous production but he's done as true # 1 WR

  14. Byrd is an elite safety and a consistent playmaker on defense....you look at his numbers and hes on his way to a hall of fame career. We drafted him and the BIlls in this long streak of playoff futility have a track record of letting their best homegrown talent go (peters, greer, winfield, p williams, mcgahee, clements, whitner, lynch)....its time to put an end to this terrible trend.

Byrd deserves to be one of the highest paid players at his position and he needs to be a buffalo bill for the rest of his career. If we let him get away it truly is a failjob by upper management and sign this team truly isnt interested in winning.

Also for those who still think Byrd isnt an elite player check this out:

    Byrd: 73 games played 22 INTS 260 tackles 2 TD's

    Ed Reed: 74 games played 27 INTS 276 tackles 3 TD's

  15. You've all seen the play I'm talking about - - last play of the game, down by anywhere from 4-8 points, too far away for a Hail Mary pass into the end zone.

    My question:

Can you replace the usual 5 offensive linemen for this play with some combination of backup RBs, your backup QB, and maybe a CB/return man or two at the line of scrimmage? You're not really gonna rely on any kind of blocking scheme anyway, and just hope that the totally random, wild nature of the ball movement gets the defenders out of position. And the defense rarely rushes very many guys at the QB, anyway. So why not get a larger number of effective runners/ball handlers on the field, and maybe even a second thrower that the defense might not expect?

Is there some rule that would prevent this kind of personnel package for the play?

Ive always wondered why coaches never thought to do something like this.

Another one that I thought of was when you decide to punt. In todays NFL the only strategy a team has on a 4th down is to try and draw an offsides penalty with a hard snap count. Why not come up a couple of plays where you have your punter running towards the line of scrimmage on the snap of the ball with the option to either A. Run for it B. THrow it to a WR C. Pooch punt it. If guys can kick it on the run in rugby then certainly it can be done in the NFL.

Imagine having to defend a 4th and 5 just as intensely as you would any other down...it would give the team that did it a huge advantage on Sundays

  16. For me its easily Bills vs Pats 12/28/08 when Brady was out for the year and the pats trotted out Cassel to an 11-5 record and a 13-0 victory over the bills in week 17.

    Weather report for the game:

    - Average temperature 21 degrees

    -Lowest temperature: -3 degrees

-And the kicker: 29 MPH winds with 53 MPH sustained winds and gusts up to 73 MPH.

The most miserable football game Ive ever been a part of. The goal posts were twisted, the bills sucked, Matt Cassel even had a punt that rolled via wind to our one yard line...

  17. At this point Khalil Mack has to be considered the odds on favorite to be the pick. It fills a position of great need and you can pair him with Kiko to have an elite LB core....

This defense proved today they still need to add pieces to stop the run.
