Byrd Skipping mandatory mini-camp
first_and_ten replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK all that being said, What happens now? Do the Bill agree to a deal to get him into camp that guarantees no tag next year or do they play hard ball and use the tag again next year? Or do they trade him? On a side note, I kinda hate Eugene Parker, Mr "fair negotiator" -
The Hall of fame will take Belecheat on the first try because they want that whole cheating scandal to be gone and forgotten. They basically covered it up. They did what they had to with the fines and the taking of draft picks but in essence they swept it under the rug by mimimizing the impact of the cheating. They burned the tapes. How many superbowls has this cheater won since he was caught? Even people on this board minimize the cheating. They claim that "they all do it". Do They all do it? I didn't see anyone else scarfing over a number one draft pick. By the way it was very convenient that they has 2 number one picks that year. Made it easy on the league and the Patriots. I don't know what can hurt the integrity of the game more than cheating. In my opinion, he should have been tossed out of the league

I do see the distinction, my point was understanding why he might be miserable. I don't believe I said that player moves were made solely to boost optimism. I stated that player moves boosted optimism, which they do. I certainly hope the intention is to make the team better. Unfortunately that has not always been the case. One could argue that the Owens signing was done to sell tickets and create a buzz. **** RACK EM !!! ***

Ed Reed played a defining role in Baltimore for years, Hard hitting, play making leader. Byrd is not in that class right now. Heck, even Reed is no longer in that class. -
Well, I don't know about "crap like this" but you have to admit the optimism is built uip in Bills fans by various marketing gimmicks and player moves during the offseasons, then the wheels come off and all hope is lost. It's been a tough 13 years.I can understand someone becoming a "miserable douche" with this franchise. Although, I see no need for calling someone a douche.

He died young. I wonder if his heart attack was related to the use of PEDs. Not sure, but i believe his 3 touchdowns in one year is a record for offensive linemen.

Why I am not optimistic about this team

The logical explanation for letting Levitre walk is that they didn't feel 8 million dollars a year was worth the price to pay a guard, especially since they tied so much money up in Mario Willaims and then have to worry about signing Wood and Spiller. Not to mention the situation with Byrd. I'm sure they would have loved to keep Levitre, but I'm guessing after intitail talks with his agent , they could see right away that his asking price was too high. And seriously, can a team build a winner paying their guards 8 million dollars a year? -

AFC's most important players

I have to disagree. That's a big "if" on Kyle returning to form after those two surgeries. Mario Williams clearly has the athleticism and the talent to be a game changer. It's extremely important for Mario to be a dominant force if this Bills defense is going to be good. With all that money tied up with Mario and for him not to make a difference? That's going to spell doom for the Bills. So, I have to agree with that writer -

This whole Byrd negotiation or the lack of, makes me lose my love of the NFL just a litle more. Why can't Byrd be satisfied with being in the top 4 paid safties in the league? If Parker has this so called reputation of being a fair but tough negotiator then why would he demand that Byrd be the highest paid safety in the league? It seems to many that this is a stretch, to say the least. The greed of players in this league makes me dislike the NFL just a bit more. These types of situations will drive fans away slowly but surely. I know a player has a limited life span in the NFL, but can a player live comfortably on 8 million? I think so. Why do players always want more and more? Why can't more player be like Kent Hull , who wanted to stay with the franchise he came in with and worked out the contract that would make that happen. There is no sense of loyalty except to the almighty dollar. A team cannot pay every good player thay have over market value. The team will never win a championship that way. Most players don't care about championships. Thay care about making the money.Next comes Wood, and Spiller. Will they also ask to be the highest paid player at their position? I wouldn't be surprised. It almost seems like a ploy to get out of Buffalo. Ask to be the highest paid, then they get their ticket out of Buffalo. It's a bit discouraging as a fan and makes me care less about that No Fun League. -
Byrds INT count is padded...

Why can't Byrd just be happy with top 4 money? I just don't get why these players let agents brainwash them, It's very disheartening as a Bills fan. Wait till next year when Wood wants to be paid like the top center in the league. It gets old. It makes me like football less and less. -
If the busuness cannot survive with only two employess and it's a necessity to have four, then, yes the owner has decisions to make. That's what free enterprise is all about. That's still better than paying 4 workers poverty level wages. You're lawn mowing business is an interesting scenerio but ,again , like the previous statement, the owner and the consumer have decisions to make as being part of the free enterprise system. Does having to raise prices make paying a worker poverty level wages ok? If the minimum wage is raised, then all lawn mowing companies will be at the same level playing field and the market will re-adjust from there. It's not like your lawn mowing company is the only one affected. They will all have to pay a better wage. So it will even out. The better companies will do well. And grass grows and needs to be cut. I don't cut my lawn any less because the price of gas has tripled over the years. I adjust , but I still cut my lawn. The problem is not a low minimum wage? Tell that to the millions working for poverty wages. Talking about the marginal revenue product is for people who aren't marred in the cycle of poverty created by this minimum wage. Yes, companies have formulas that decide how much work units are required to prduce their product but like you said that is affected by the minimum wage. So of course they want to keep the wage low. They want to maximize profites. Is this good for the country or just good for the people maximizing profits on the backs of people in poverty? You say we don't need to increase government involvement? That's funny. Have you seen how much the government has helped big business in this country? From tax breaks to less regulation? Have you ever considered that raising the minimum wage might actually help the economy? Do you think the workers who make more with an increased minimum wage will be saving that newfound fortune? No, they will spend it, The economy might very well benefit from an increased minimum wage.

Will less sacks this year equal more wins??
first_and_ten replied to Ludwig van's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Quarterback pressures are a result of trying to sack the quarterback. Teams that pressure the quarterback naturally get more sacks. Not sure how this writer you speak of can argue a defense can get more pressure on the QB than lasts years team but fewer sacks. -
#22 - Can Dareus have a breakout season?
first_and_ten replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone deals with death and the ensuing grief differently. I can't imagine what it must have been like to lose a loved one that way. He gets a pass from me. Who's to say whether that tragedy won't affect his entire career. It might. It might even work to make him a better football player. Who knows. Whatever happens though, the NFL is a business and ultimately his play will determing his future financial success. I wish him the best.
