  1. My buddy is a huge phins fan & isn't too excited to see him getting signed for 7 million. Clay doesn't fit that traditional TE role & is more of a niche, split out side H back type guy.

I'm just not a fan of giving an H back 7 million dollars unless Roman has big plans for him.

I doubt Cameron will command that type of money & has the frame to be a starting TE. He has the numbers to back up his talent as a receiver & should be had for somewhere in the 3-5 million range I would think. His concussion history is worrying though.

Or Gresham. He is your prototypical TE that is an excellent blocker. I really liked him coming out of Oklahoma & he is no slouch as a pass catcher either. He definitely will not command 7 million a season. Offer him 4 years / 15 million & then take the savings over Clay to sign Iupati, Franklin, or Boling.

This is going to be run first team so getting one of those big 3 OGs is key IMO

Cameron's concussion problems are more than "worrying". This is football. One more shot to the head might mean curtains for him.

  2. I get the feeling we are turning into the Redskins - going after every big-name guy trying to make a splash like its a video game or something. Pretty soon we may be in Salary cap hell with no draft picks to fill the roster.

I mean, we traded for Cassel when there are a half dozen free agents who are just as bad as him.

    Cassel was basically a freebie.

  3. Agree on Tuel, disagree on Lewis. He played rather well under the circumstances in 2013 in actual games until he got hurt, threw some great passes, and he was ABYSMAL in 2014. He couldn't complete passes in skeleton drills.

Re: Tuel, it's pretty hard to regress when you only started one game in your NFL career. For an undrafted rookie, that one start wasn't really that bad.

  4. I don't think the Bills are done at QB.

I think they will still add another FA or even trade. Worse add a QB in the draft.

By pure numbers they have to. Ryan and Whaley were talking about going to camp with 4. I honestly don't see Tuel in the mix. So with Manuel and Cassel, they need to add 2 more.

I also don't see the Bills trying to "get by" at the position. They will load up, even if it means cutting a guy in camp.

That's just how I see it

If they let Hughes go, they will get a 3rd round comp pick. They will lose that if they sign a free agent QB. Look for them to go QB in the draft if the draft falls their way.

  5.

I'm right there with you bro ! I hope McCoy says NO & backs out that could be the best for the Bills .

He's really good but if he only gives half the effort so he can be traded what's the sense ?

We need players that want to be here . Plus with the CJ thing what does that tell Dareus & Gilmore as far as Whaley saying he want s to keep his good players ???

Sure didn't seem like that from where i'm standing !!

I read that if McCoy says no, he loses $3 1/2M of his signing bonus

  6.

That pick is essentially a 4th (though compensatory picks need to be factored).

Speaking of compensatory picks, I'm starting to wonder if that's a consideration in some of these deals. Hughes might put us in line to get pretty good compensation (relatively speaking) while signing a Locker/Hoyer/Moore would have been a hit in the formula.

Back on topic to Cassel, I see him as the babysitter to push EJ but be a guy willing to coach him up as well. I'm thinking we're leaning Petty or Grayson in round 2.

Very astute post re: compensatory picks. If we sign free agents, we lose possible Comp Picks. By trading for a RB & a QB, we keep our possible 3rd round CP for losing Hughes (if he leaves). Having a 2nd, 2 thirds, & 2 4ths doesn't sound too bad. Methinks Whaley has a plan.

  7. Inaccuracy can be caused by many things.

Maybe the kid just has poor hand-eye coordination (inferior genetics). That kind of inaccuracy cannot be cured.

But other causes can potentially be fixed:

    * poor timing

    * poor mechanics

    * poor poise in the pocket (which leads to poor mechanics)

    * bad route running by the WRs

    * unfamiliarity with the speed & route tendencies of the WRs

    * poor progressions (you're more likely to complete the pass if you're throwing to the open guy)

    * and so on.

The QB coach last year said EJ's biggest accuracy problem was in fact poor timing. Too often EJ was accurately throwing to where the guy was, instead of where he would be.

Then again, I've seen EJ cleanly launch some long balls that were off target which makes me worry about his natural accuracy.

You forgot "confidence" or lack thereof.

  8. Claussen is a FA. The only other QB they have is David Fales.

I inquired in another thread if anyone saw Clausen's last game with CHI after Cutler was benched. He threw with zip into tight windows & generally surprised me with his game. Perhaps a couple of years on the bench did him some good.

Then tampa or tennesee ends up with no qb...one of those two would move back to 20 where they would have no qb and basically would tank next season.

TB needs a QB. I don't think that TN does. Mettenberger looked pretty good.

i think if there is a chance to get Cutler then we have to do it. he's a bonehead but i think Rex and the other captains will keep him in line. he's just as talented as a Matt Stafford or Phillip Rivers imo if he plays at his potential and doesn't get into a rut and start pouting. if we had him we are in the playoffs so why not take a shot on him?

A lot of QBs with strong arms, like Cutler, are way over rated. Guys like Cousins, Hoyer, Moore etc will win you more games imho.

  9. I don't see how the Bills expect to compete for the playoffs with a below average to average starting QB (Sanchez/Hoyer) or a young developing QB.

    (Manuel).

With so many high quality FAs available at so many positions (except QB) they can fill those other needs if they really want to. They won't get a starting QB in this year's draft most likely.

It's time that Ryan learn his lesson and go get a real starting QB. I'm talking about P. Manning, Brees, RGIII, etc.

Settling for Sanchez or Hoyer or worse is not going to get it done.

RG111 is a shell of his college days & his rookie year. He looks very hesitant to step into his throws. Personally, I would prefer Cousins if we are going to trade with the R's. I know --- he threw a lot of int's, but he has guts & isn't afraid to wing it - a little like Fitz but with more accuracy & a better arm.

  10. In "Collision Low Crossers", the book about Rex & the Jets, They make fun of Matt Cassel & his lack of ability.

did anyone watch Hoyer play he in 13.5 game he had 19 interceptions and should have had another dozen. We do NOT want Hoyer - also check out who they played Tenn, NO, Jax, Oak, Tampa, Atl

A good number of those were targeted to you know who, who has admitted running the wrong routes.

  11. Have interest in Evans, Marshall or Colston.

I agree on Evans & Marshall. Colston seemed to be just going thru the motions last year. Because he was on my FF team, I specifically watched him run routes. He looked slow & lumbering. I also noticed that Brees didn't seem to target him. Not sure why.

Of course it's valuable but we need a RB, no? So why not address it now that fits the new coaching staff's plans or before we have more holes in this roster?

    Ingram fits what they want.

  12.

I will be very surprised if the Jets are able to get someone like Mariotta.

I had to review the draft order myself, so maybe someone else does too. Here it is (current signed QB in parentheses)

    1) Tampa Bay (Glennon, Lobato)

    2) Tennessee (Whitehurst, Tanney, Mettenberger)

    3) Jacksonville (Bortles, Henne, Morris)

    4) Oakland (Carr, McGloin, Schaub)

    5) Washington (Cousins, Griffin)

I think if you're the TB or Tenn GM with that roster, and you don't take a QB, your seat gets plenty hot especially if that QB shows any potential somewhere else.

It is possible that Jacksonville and Oakland hold with Bortles and Carr, though by TBDian logic they didn't light the world on fire last year (especially Bortles with those 17 INTs) so their respective teams should pull another fish out of the pond this year. So if Mariota or Winston go past Tampa and Tenn, a trade up with Jacksonville or Oakland looks possible. I hope they hold the Jets feet to the fire if they try it.

I don't know why McShay has an audience though. Isn't he the one who touted Clausen as the best QB in his draft and likewise ranked Gabbert higher than Cam Newton?

I don't think he's shown himself to be a very accurate predictor, either of talent or of how NFL teams view talent.

I think that Tenn likes Mettenberger & will therefor trade down.

  13. Fair enough,I fall on the other side. I think that if they get RG or Bradford at their best they can win a Super Bowl. It is interesting for sure.

It's interesting that you said "at their best" they can win a SB. I agree on Bradford but I just can't get over how much RG has regressed. His backup has problems but I like Cousins better because he has guts & isn't afraid to wing it. Lots of int's last year but 4 came in one game. He has a certain cockiness about him that I like. I think that he will be asking for a trade as he doesn't want to carry a clip board.

  14. I think fans here are intrigued by him because Roman would ask him to do similar things to his rookie year and limit his throw numbers.

He looks like he is afraid to take a hit in the pocket. He seems to be always throwing off his back foot. Can he ditch this bad habit? For his sake, I hope so. Roman wouldn't be able to have RG play the type of game he displayed in his rookie season because he simply isn't the same guy anymore.

  15. The reality is there is only 2 realistic trade option now that RG is seemingly off the table. Bradford, RG and Cutler are the only guys that were ever realistic trade targets. The Bills will do their due diligence. I don't think that's any different from what the level headed people on here had suggested? The Brees type of stuff was ridiculous from the 1st time that it was suggested.

I don't get all the RG111 love(like). IMHO, he was not only ineffective but he was the worst QB in the league LAST YEAR. Can he improve & get to the level of his rookie year? I doubt it. Take away his legs & sorry to say, he is below average & not a quality NFL QB. Just my opinion after watching him for about 4 - 5 games last year.
