  1. And the Bills are what happens when you don't build through Free Agency or the Draft.
  2. I'm for it, this team needs to do something big to change an entire culture.
  3. The call on Florence had to be the worst penalty call of the year! How do we nominate it?
  4. Looks good . . . my only concern is a draft philosophy thing I have: Draft players from big-time programs. But, there are always exceptions.
  5. The Buffalo News article on this year's draft class got me to thinking . . . Rating the Bills drafts over the past five years. Here’s a summary of each, with a few comments. I highlighted the people (in bold & underlined) who are still on the team. And for what it’s worth, my Grade based on what they mean to the team NOW. 2006 First round: Donte Whitner, S, Ohio State and DT John McCargo North Carolina State 3rd round: Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State 4th Round: Ko Simpson, S, South Carolina 5th round: Kyle Williams, DT, LSU and Brad Butler, T, Virginia 6th round: Keith Ellison, LB Oregon State 7th round: Terrance Pennington, T and Aaron Merz, G Mixed results, Whitner was/is a solid player (hey, he’s now a Pro Bowler), but never deserving of a top 10 pick, Williams has been gold, unfortunately Butler quit—would have been a mainstay of the line for years, the rest—except Merz all played, but basically an uninspiring crew. My Present Grade = C- (Six years out, only one still on the team, but a good one) 2007 1st round: Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal 2nd round: Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State 3rd Round: Trent Edwards, QB, Stanford 4th round: Dwayne Wright, RB, Fresno State 6th round: John Wendling, DB, Wyoming 7th round: Derek Schouman, TE, Boise State and C.J. Ah You DE Oklahoma Only Wright and Ah You didn’t start at some time, the rest were productive players. The best of the crew was Lynch. Poz was good—not great, Edwards had his moments—but never recovered form that concussion. A solid draft on paper and in hindsight, but they just never won anything. Depressingly, not one of them is still with the team. My Present Grade = F (nothing to say) 2008: 1st round: Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy 2nd round: James Hardy, WR, Indiana 3rd round: Chris Ellis, DE, Va Tech 4th round: Reggie Corner, CB, Akron, and Derek Fine, TE, Kansas 5th round: Alvin Bowen, LB, Iowa State 6th round: Xavier Omon, RB, Northwest Missouri State 7th round: Demtrius Bell, T, Northwestern-Louisiana State, Steve Johnson, WR, Kentucky, and Kannard Cox, CB, Pittsburgh [Kannard Who?] Leodis is, well “Leodis”—another #1 waste. Bell has proved to be a serviceable OT. Johnson has turned out to be the gem of this draft (probably the entire draft). The rest: “we hardly knew you?” All-in-all, accept for the hits on two 7th round crap shoots, a very poor year. My Grade = D+ (Johnson & Bell keep it from total failure) 2009 1st round: Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State and Eric Wood, OL, Louisville 2nd round: Jarius Byrd, S, Oregon, and Andy Levitre, G, Oregon State 4th round: Shawn Nelson, TE, Southern Mississippi 5th round: Nic Harris, LB, Oklahoma 6th round: Clay Harris, DB, USC 7th round: Ellis Lankster, DB, WA Viriginia The awful mistake at the top hurts this class, but Woods, Byrd, and Levitre help make up for that mistake. The rest, are any of them still in the league less than 3 years later? Think about it: three for eight??? My Grade = B- (the big three save this class, but you can’t swing and miss this bad with a 1st round pick) 2010 1st round: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson 2nd round: Torrell Troupe, DT, Central Florida 3rd round: Alex Carrington, DL, Arksansas State 4th round: Marcus Easely, WR, Connecticut ?? 5th round: Ed Wang, T, VA Tech 6th round: Arthuor Moats, LB, James Madison, Danny Batten, LB, South Dakota State Spiller was a reach: he’s a capable RB, but still yet to live up to his status as a #9 over-all pick. The rest of them: 2, 3, 4?, and 6 & 6 are all back-up and special team level players. Aaaahhhhh? Not a good one! However, the free-agent pick-ups in this year may the best of them all: Nelson, Jones, Roosevelt, . . . My Grade = C (with much to prove next season—this one could go up or down dramatically a year from now) 2011 1st Round: Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama 2nd Round: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas 3rd Round: Kelvin Sheppard, LB, LSU 4th Round: Da’Norris Searcy, S, North Carolina 4th Round: Chris Hairston, OT, Clemson 5th Round: Johnny White, RB, North Carolina 6th Round: Chris White, LB, Mississippi State 7th Round: Justin Rogers, CB, Richmond and Michael Jasper, OL, Bethel (All still with the team) Darius is the best #1 pick in a decade- or more? Williams, Sheppard, & Hairston are regular starters—and each shows promise od staying around awhile. The rest have all shown potential. So far, it has been looked good. My Grade = B+ (based on immediate contribution, but only time will tell) Your thoughts? Flame away . . .
  6. Ryan Tannehill is destined to be a solid back-up QB in the NFL. If we draft him in 5th-7th rounds, fine. Why are we even having this discussion?????
  7. No! He's not a high 1st rounder (maybe bottom 10 for a team that can give him time to develop). If he's there in the 2nd--which a very real possibility--then maybe. Sorry, I'm not convinced. Wow! barbarian, you must a full uniform-wearing Aggie. How many games did they win in a bad conference? By the way, did you hear about the Aggie who got locked out of his car? He spent two hours trying to get his wife and kids out.
  8. I think the jury is still out on who got the best of this trade. I believe at the time the Bills thought Marcus Easley was going to step in and take his place. Well, unfortunately that didn't happen. Others (Jones, Nelson, Spiller, Smith, etc.) have stepped in, but I still don't think the BIlls have really replaced Evans. Hopefully that will happen with a solid draft pick, or key free agent signing, or maybe Easley does make it back - he seemed to have a lot of promise. Let's hope! Regardless, I think next year will be when a real evaluation can be made on who got the best of this deal.
  9. No coach in the NFL has job security after next year - every coach is one abysmal season away from being bought out (fired!).
  10. I sure hope we resign Bell - I don't see a huge market for him, but he will get paid by someone willing to take the risk/reward = it should be the Bills. My prediction is that Bell (LT) and Hairston (RT) will be the starters next season, with Pears as the capable back-up. I don't think the Bills will use their #! pick on a LT as some have suggested. There are too many other glaring needs, and it seems that online is not one of them, it really has become a strength (Wow! WHo would have thought that at the beginning of the year). Of course, we need to keep them relatively healthy for a whole season. BTW - Colin Brown played well on Sunday, and Rhinehart has proved to be a very valuable back-up guard, either side.
  11. Save your money, I've watched every game on my computer: when they win, I'm vey glad I can watch them in shape or form, and when they lose, I'm glad I didn't have to pay a dime (Except my $1200 MacBook Pro, and $30 a month internet service).
  12. Both are very good, I think the Bills got the guy they needed the most
  13. I no it's not politically correct to say this, but when all healthy--and even with some missing people along the way--the Bills oline has been pretty good this year. Some have said the Bills will pick a OT in the draft--sure, we could always use more, but the line is good enough, and there are more pressing needs for that high in the draft.
  14. Maybe you should really congratulate Mark Sanchez, he was/is. just awful.
  15. Newsflash: "Bills Personnel Decisions Have Not Been Good for the Last Decade." And in other news, the Vatican has just released a statement confirming that the Pope is, indeed, as suspected, Catholic.
  16. And about that research . . . . Bad Science: The Psychology Behind Exaggerated Research http://holykaw.alltop.com/bad-science-the-psychology-behind-exaggerated http://www.clinicalpsychology.net/bad-science/
  17. OK, this has to be the most bizarre thread ever at TBW. And worst of all, I just sat here and read the whole thing. Moreover, I'm left wondering: Just what is my testosterone level? And whatever it is, is it good or bad?
  18. If he's that good, why does he only get 12 carries a game? . . . Each game just further cements what a waste of a pick it was. Not that he's awful, but he certainly never was, and will never be, worthy of a 9th pick over-all. That is the point Frank, just accept it. But, to his credit, he did the most with what he was given, and also did well catching the ball.
  19. Brian Moreman, not sure why we're not using him more on 3rd down . . . we do nothing else on it
