The more I've thought about this, the more I think they should go after him. And by that I mean, make a trade -- for one of those lower round picks. The Pats win by getting something rather than an outright release, the Bills win by getting a player with a high up-side for a relatively low risk and price. The risk reward is positive. It is only pertinent to this discussion because we won them all. If we had a losing preseason record, not relevant. I find I always want to win preseason games. It does say something--granted, not much, but generally something good.

Every win is important, get to 10 and you're in the big dance, it does not matter how you get there .... the only issue is when a tie-breaker comes into play. Then, of course, all kinds of variables enter the formula. Best approach, win as many as you can to avoid the tie-breakers. So, yes, this is a big game!

Beside McDermott, you have to tip your hat to the Pegulas' for learning on their first hire and not making the same mistake twice. The Rex hire (I still shutter when I say that) was a disaster. I get it, I do understand the thought process then, but it quickly became apparent he was not the answer, to anything. All hype, and no substance. They removed him as soon as it was prudent to do so. In McDermott they hired the polar opposite. An unknown, a high-character guy, a leader of men, someone people instantly trust, a principled person who works his plan (the process), and, of course, a high football IQ. He admitted it would take time, he (and Beane) had a plan and they've stuck to it. The Pegulas' have supported them in that plan, and the results are showing. Everything he does is the exact opposite of how Rex did it. And that is good! And it is a credit to the Pegula's for taking the risk. They learned the hard way, but once they realized their mistake, they acted swiftly and smartly. What is the saying? "fire fast and hire slowly." This entire scenario is support to that wisdom. Good work Terry and Kim, and to Coach McDermott and GM Beane.

Excellent read Thurman, thanks. As I'm processing it, the way he weaves leadership development and trust into the analysis is interesting. He grounds that in character development. I think his point is, the best young leaders earn trust by learning to make good decisions. But a team has to be willing to let them learn those lessons. We can question Josh Allen's football skills, he is still learning and growing in that. And as for decions making development, much of the script is given to him. But we have also seen him when things go off script. In those moments, he has made some incredible plays, and of course, some really big head scratchers. But I think the point is this; good QB--and leadership--development gives room for the decision making, and mistakes of youthful enthusiasm. That is where real growth will occur. I am convinced that in Josh Allen the Bills have the most valuable of attributes a QB needs, a leader his teammates trust. Will he make mistakes, yes, but he is learning and the growth is evident for all to see. And as long as that trajectory continues up, the skills (physical abilities) and mental side (character and trustworthiness) will eventually get to the same place. And in that, you have the combination that makes for a dynamic player and leader. I truly believe the Bills are in good shape at this position for many years ahead.

It was concerning this week, but not time to panic. He will be watched closely, and, yes, I'm sure other teams will try to physically miss-match him. If there is continued success (for the opposition), then time to rethink the line-up. NFL players cannot get overpowered on a regular basis, that is a ticket to the unemployment line. Stay tuned.
