Surely it can't rival the number of people who wanted the Bills to re-sign Crowell. I don't know how it was over here, but on the BBMB, you couldn't go a day without a "the Bills screwed-over/up Crowell."

Precisely. Moreover it sends a message to Marshall that beating his woman is okay, and in some cases, men with history of domestic violence can eventually end up killing their partners. The PCP gives Goodell the authority to suspend any player he sees fit. -

"Masterful?" The reason it happened is because the Chargers picked Eli, but he and dad (and maybe Peyton) wanted nothing to do with SD, since they were a laughingstock at the time. Fortunately they were able to find a willing trade partner in the Giants, which again as I said, doesn't happen anymore with top-5 picks, let alone the top overall pick. And they selected a QB, when they already had a burgeoning talent in Drew Brees, who they let get away for nothing and who it a much better QB than Rivers. There was nothing "masterful" about it. The Bills had the 4th overall pick, in 2002, and the 8th overall pick in 2006, but otherwise haven't picked in the top-10 in the past 10 years. Do you think the Colts would be where they are today without having the first overall pick and getting Manning? I know it was Smith who signed Flutie. But it was Butler who traded away a high first rounder and a large contract for a guy who 1 career start, that he couldn't even finish. Perhaps keeping Smith would have been the better move, but he wasn't going to stay without Butler. -

What are you going on about? You do realize that Marshall was suspended at the beginning of the 2008 season, primarily for beating up his woman. But he had his suspension reduced by 2 games. Then he gets arrested earlier this year for doing the same, but charges are dropped and it's "no harm, no foul." And magically the assault and battery charges are also dropped. It's all been just a huge misunderstanding for poor persecuted Brandon Marshall. Pathetic. What kind of a "Personal Conduct Policy" does Goodell run, anyway? Lynch OTOH accidentally grazes a drunk chick and gets a ticket for it, yet somehow has to have a meeting with Goodell. Then he's caught with a gun in the trunk of his car and instead of fighting it, asks to have it settled quickly. And for that he gets 3 games with no reduction? Maybe if Lynch had hit a black woman with his car instead... -

No, merely being charged with a crime isn't enough to suspend someone. From where did you pull that one? -

Wilson became "meddlesome" in the latter years of Butler's tenure because of suspect moves like overpaying to keep guys and mortgaging the future, trading a 1st and 4th for Rob Johnson only to watch him become a failure while Flutie had to be paid almost commensurate with RJ, hurting the cap further, and then that horrible, dismal, embarrassing 2000 draft. As for what Butler did for SD, with all due respect to the late GM, it was mostly AJ Smith. Butler was diagnosed with cancer before the 2002 season. And twice during Butler's/Smith's tenure, the Chargers had the 1st overall pick in the draft and willing partners to trade down (which doesn't happen anymore). -

So...Randy Moss isn't a top-5 WR. Right? Boldin had more catches and yards, and the same number of TD's (not 9 as I erroneously said, but actually 11). What's your definition of a top-5 WR? Is it catches and/or yards? I forgot that Marshall had the assault and battery charges dropped against him. How convenient. Poor Marshall seems to get into all these problems that just are someone else's fault. It's not what I can do, but what Goodell can do. But didn't. Or did. Maybe after Marshall's next transgression, convicted or not, Goodell will have the balls to do what he should have done already. Which is reason enough to stay away from him, much less trade a 1st and 3rd (and reports are that the Broncos are NOT looking to trade him, or at least aren't looking to trade him like the Cards weren't looking to trade Boldin) and the huge salary he'll want. -

Those 89 catches and 9 TD's in 12 games last year are from from "imaginary." Oh, that's right. A true "thug" gets off scot-free yet again. Good thing he was only beating up women and didn't have a gun in the trunk of his car. -

No, I meant O-line production, because that's what's most important to the team, not their ST's play (or lack thereof) for a year. I know you feel it's another feather in Peters' cap, but while he played a season there and did well, the Bills' ST's still dominated after he stopped playing them. Will the same happen at the LT position, which Bell may end-up playing a year and a half before Peters did? Stay tuned. -

Reports were that the Cards were shopping Boldin. But are the Broncos trying to shop Marshall? The asking price (new contract and picks) will turn teams off. As will an impending suspension for his off-field activities. Boldin is easily a top-5 WR but injuries have dogged him the past 2 years. This last season, he had 89 catches for 1,089 yards and 9 TD's, in 12 games. -

I agree with the longterm O-line, although I think Hangartner figures in there somewhere (RG?). But the short-term should be Butler at LG and Wood remaining at RG. Wood is a rookie and making him make a position switch will be a lot harder for him than Butler. And by putting Butler next to Bell, you don't have 2 inexperienced guys starting next to each other (anywhere on the O-line). -
I agree that the injury could have happened if he were on any team in the NFL. But the Bungles couldn't have known it would happen. And you're right there were other red flags that should have prompted them to pass on him.

If & When Demetrius Bell Takes Over at Left Tackle
ThereIsNoDog replied to Kenwick's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The I meant "production" from an O-line standpoint. It's great that he performed well on ST's for the Bills in 2004, although the ST's didn't seem to miss a beat once he stopped playing them. It's unfortunate that Bell's back injury set him, well, back, but he figures to see the field sooner rather than later. And yes I'm well-aware of Peters' abilities during 2006 and 2007. As I've said repeatedly, had he showed up during the off-/pre-season and performed at that level in 2008, he'd still be in Buffalo. Bell doesn't need to have Peters' freakish athletic ability to succeed. And the history of the NFL is littered with athletic freaks who didn't amount to a hill of beans. -
To be fair, no one could have predicted that he'd break his foot. And the contract stuff was more a function of the Raiders screwing everyone by offering that stupid contract to Heyward-Bey.
-
I'll believe it when I see it. A broken foot when you're 350# is not a good thing to have.

Wouldn't that suck if this "developmental project" started, and played well, faster than the last LT developemental project the Bills had? -

I can't see the Bills having Bell starting next to Levitre. That's too much inexperience. I also can't see Walker being benched in favor of Butler at RT. I think that Levitre will be a fine guard in time, but he's not there yet. -

You play your best players. That means Bell, Walker at RT, Wood, Hangartner, and Butler. Bell would be LT, Walker RT, and Hangartner at center. As for Wood and Butler, since Wood is a rookie, I'd keep him at RG instead of having him have to learn on the other side. Butler is a seasoned vet and knows the plays, so the transition wouldn't be as great. Levitre can sit and watch. -

These guys were no more run out of town than Wayne Huizenga was in Miami. Some owners simply want to cash-out and not own the team forever.
