Most Exciting Bills Game Ever
jethro_tull replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the only reason i say it was not as exciting as the 77 second miracle vs. the broncos is that it seemed like the oilers choked and went into the tank in the third quarter. in the broncos game the bills were being outplayed against a very good broncos team and to come from behind like they did in such a short amount of time was spectacular -

OK, things just became a little rosier with the news that cordy glenn will be ready for the opener and seantrel henderson is impressing in camp. -

I don't necessarily disagree with this and when the Bills secondary is / was healthy they have shown that the team can be much more competitive. The secondary no longer becomes the weakest area on the team. However for the offense to succeed, and for the team to compete with the best in the league, an improved run blocking OL is mandatory. You will not compete at a higher level without it. The OL (when healthy) is the weakest area of the starting 22. There were times when the defense put them in a position to win but they couldn't get it done. -

Yeah, but with whom? -
The offensive line improves significantly in run blocking and downfield penetration. While pass protection was OK, run blocking was horrid when it mattered last season. Sure the stats show decent run production but digging a little deeper it seems as most teams gave our run offense a bend but don't break attitude. Consider- 3rd down conversion - 29th 4th down conversion- 29th Red zone TDs- 29th. Our line could not penetrate well enough to get those crucial short yard conversions. Watching the games last season I dreaded the 3rd and short, 4th and short plays. They almost always failed as indicated by the above stats. It also seemed like a high amount of 3rd and long plays as well. When you can't get run penetration on first and second downs, good defenses will eat you for lunch on those 3rd and long plays. Especially against young QBs and receivers that have a hard time getting seperation. Key to the season remains the OL. So far in camp it is off to a rocky start. I'm hoping that Cyrus can truly make a contribution this season although he is now playing on the second team.

Here's how we save the Bills if they're sold to JBJ
jethro_tull replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the immortal words of Bryan Cox, Bills fans are a "different breed of species". If the team is sold to an owning entity who tries to move them out of town, eyes have not seen the wrath that will follow. These are the Bills for God's sake and they've been the Buffalo Bills for 54 dam years. If there is ever a threat to move this team, grandmothers from Cheektowaga will start packing heat. -

I envisioned something like this happening. Jon BJ succeeds you think we're going to just sit and take it? There will be extreme amounts of fan energy- some destructive, yet some constructive. And it wouldn't go away anytime soon unless they say uncle and sign some kind of long term comitment. And yeah, as someone mentioned ron jaworski aint fooling anybody as a sincere voice. hs's a shill traitor who deserves to be stripped of whatever title he has. he's second only to roger goddell as the king WNY embarrassment at this point. BTW truth be told only 1 of the last 15 successful NFL bidders were a partnership. The NFL prefers single owners with deep pockets who can cut the check. Our other saving grace is that the NFL owners will most likely not approve the sale of a buyer with intent to move the team. But yeah, if BJ wins the bid- someone will organize a Jon BJ cd and record "demolition". similar to what a chicago DJ did with disco records. any takers? -
Peition on change.org for stadium on Lackawanna waterfront

Thanks for sharing your frustration. The Bethlehem site needs to be cleaned up with or without the stadium. The publicity of the stadium should help get people energized and active, which is what this is going to take to get off the ground once again. It seems like the area is in need of a grass roots organization to rally the voters and demand that local state and federal elected officials report on where they are with respect to- *Federal Brownfield funding agreement (no funding agreement reached since organized in 2003) *Industry zoning (if the waterfront is still zoned for industry, then this needs to be revised ASAP). *State of NY clean up planning (dormant since 2009). Unfortunately, possibly linking the cleanup to the new stadium may turn people off- especially ones that do not want taxpayer funds supporting a new stadium. If they are linked, they may not support the cleanup because of that link. Good luck! -

Agreed. But in hindsight the Lackawana plant was built too close to Buffalo. They should have zoned much better- example in Chicago- where they put the steel mills in Gary, Indiana! Agreed completely. However, there is nothing wrong and everything right IMHO to piggy back off of the new stadium publicity to get people in gear over a project that is 25 years overdue and has been eligible for federal funding since 2003. Piggy back away and get it done while putting the stadium where it makes sense. -

interesting. seems like the clean-up is doable and should happen ASAP. just think the stadium should be further north. completely disagree. the area needs revitalization and every chance for WNY to shine in the national spotlight is a chance for additional growth and investment. waterfront stadium traffic patterns can be managed. i have been to games in chicago which is right on lake michigan and traffic is very manageable. candlestick park is on the bay and look at the amazing shots you see of the water during the games. buffalo IS the waterfront! -

Sir, the cleanup of the Bethlem site is more than a nightmare. It is 500 acres of acid tar, acid sludge, fuel storage, contaminated sediment, sulpher, hydraulic oil, benzene, pyridine, benzol, napthalene, 15 different waste metals and cynanide. The contaminats extend up to 40 feet deep below ground level. This is no ordinary nightmare. It is a 500 acre plot of hell on the shores of Lake Erie. BTW the Ralph Wilson Stadium site occupies ~ 130 acres. -

Here's some info on the State's activities to help clean up the site- http://www.dec.ny.go...umseh0709fs.pdf It seems as if it has been stalled since 2009. I suggest local area residents get highly vocal to the following officials: Mr. Stanley Radon NYS DEC Region 9 Office 270 Michigan Avenue Buffalo, NY 14203 (716) 851-7220 Mr. Larry Thomas NYS DEC Central Office 625 Broadway Albany, NY 12233-7258 (518) 402-8594 Mr. Cameron O’Connor NYS Department of Health 584 Delaware Avenue Buffalo, NY 14202 (716) 847-4385 -
Peition on change.org for stadium on Lackawanna waterfront

This is what I believe. The downtown south waterfront is where the stadium has to be. This is the backbone of Buffalo. The area was made great as a waterway to the East via the Erie Canal. The harbor. The shipping. The grain elevators. The atmosphere of an over the water western sunset. This is Buffalo! Linked to other "anchors" of the downtown area, the stadium and the events (as mentioned) will work together with other nearby infrastructure, attractions and facilities and create a synergy. A synergy where this grows because of that, and that grows or is spawned because of this. A synergy where the area can grow greater than the sum of its individual parts. As much as I would like to see the steel plant blight be obliterated from the lakefront landscape, liknking it to the stadium construction will never happen. The costs would be astronomical and it would be at the expense of the best possible location for the stadium. The Bethlehem site renovation should still be aggressively pursued. From what I've read it is caught up in a world of bureaucratic red tape involving the succeeding corporate ownerships. They still owe the Federal Government disclosure reports concerning the amount and type of hazerdous materials on site. This has been ongoing since 1990 and the report was due in 2004! In 2003 the site was named a "brownfield" but there is no agreement reached or plan to receive Federal funds. The "people", constituents of elected local, state and federal officals, have every right to make this a hotbed issue and demand that hazerdous disclosure and superfund agreemants be reached. -

I've thought about this alot. The idea of a new Bills stadium and cleanup of arguably the largest footprint of blight in the area is a carrott too enticing to ignore. In one fell swoop the area would take a giant step towards transormation and revitalization. An act of epic proportions that would be truly historical. But is it the right place for the stadium? This is a once in a generation opportunity for WNY and the decision makers had best be careful. After all it is a business, and business success is greatly linked to location. The location should be selected that will give the team the best chances for long term success. Providing geographical renovation would be a nice bonus but should not come at the expense of the team's growth. Is there a location that would provide a unique, memorable NFL experience that would represent the backbone of the Buffalo area? An experience that no other market could provide? What is unique and endearing about the area that could be presented and enhanced during an NFL weekend? Does that unique and endearing feature of the area lend itself as the site of an NFL stadium and business? Some say not to overthink this. I say think about it and get it right. http://www.bestdesignedcity.com/ -
The New stadium must be a dome
jethro_tull replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are only EIGHT GAMES A YEAR! Let football be football for God sakes! Even the NHL thinks playing hockey open air is special. Domes are for basketball, roller derby and arena football! -
I am drinking the Whaley Kool aid and it is gooood!

everyone thinks ej is injury prone but in reality when a db comes full bore shoulder to the knee what else is going to happen? it also seems like that one injury never fully healed either and thus the off season surgery. in other words he isn't necessarily fragile but learning to be more caustious / protective is not a bad idea. -
Joining in this community and wishing JK and family all the best thoughts and prayers for recovery and strength. Without question my number one sports hero of all time and yet such a mixed blessing life. The good Lord never promised a smooth journey whan you choose to walk with him, yet does promise a time when all tears will cease to be. My dad just had very successful kidney and lymph node treatment at Roswell and swears by that place and the professionals thet work there.. I don't understand why Jim doesn't check them out. Aren't they the best in the world? Man this really sucks. I hope by God that Jim can make it to Andre's induction ceremony. I am choking up already just thinking about it. God bless.

Bills hire Jim Schwartz DC, Todd Downing QB coach
jethro_tull replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed jabber! The best thing about this hire IMHO is what this says about the Bills organization- whoever took the lead here (Marrone?) is operating proactively and professionally and decisively. No mumbling bumbling botched prolonged searches that we saw the Bills do many times in their history. This hire was an act of confidence and decisiveness. Way to go Bills! -
Yeah but unfortunately Byrd and Glimore play in the BACKFIELD. How on God's green earth does this mean that the defensive line is not as bad as the OP suggests? Jabber, I think the post mentioning you as the next Jerry Sullivan is quite a complement. While I won't go quite that far, it is refreshing to see a more realistic point of view on this site. Opinions that aren't so clouded by rose colored fan vision. There is absolutely no doubt that the defensive line completely underachieved during Sunday's game. Sure they looked a little better than last year's defense, and the schemes allowed more pressure on Brady than I've seen in a while. But they just did not get it done when it counted, notably against the run- but especially during the Partiots last and game winning (unfortunately) drive. The players on this defensive line, if they truly lived up to their hype, billing, paycheck and draft class, SHOULD HAVE EATEN BRADY FOR FRIGGIN LUNCH ALL DAM DAY LONG and WON THE GAME by stopping them when we needed them to!

no. 1 on the list- poor offensive line runblocking. very few lanes were created and virtually zero downfield penetration.

I'm afraid Chan was right about Spiller
jethro_tull replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
very astute observation. the bills line had very little success opening lanes. freddy is better at making his own gap but once through the line there was nothing. having the plays somewhat telegraphed did not help either. however, a lane is a lane and they were few and far between. downfield penetration by the bills o-line was nearly non-existent. basically a failing grade on OL run blocking today. -

very nice drive on the time delayed NFLN . good coaching makes our third stringers play better than last season's starters. i'm watching the game last week wondering who the heck they're going to cut?
