Chicago Media- Bills are an Easy Win
jethro_tull replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In response to this opinion (which is popular) it is hard not to agree with most but not from Chicago Bears homers. It just stings a little when you hear it first hand from the source. When you hear the guy on your station basically saying the Bills will be pushovers. Kind of like overhearing your mother-in-law talking about you. -
Chicago Media- Bills are an Easy Win

Last night on 670, Mark Grote was talking about the Bear's schedule and he mentioned that the Bills were "an easy win". He also said the Dollphins game and the Jets games were "winnable" Earlier in the week the 670 late night host (Les Grobstein) mentioned that his colleages thought that the Bears would easily beat the Bills, but that he was not so sure and believes that the Bills will be much improved, that he believes EJ Manuel will be improved and that Sammy Watkins will be a huge addition to the team. Personally I respect Les "The Grobber" and he is actually an idiot savant that can recall vivid detail about any game, any year, any team, any sport. -

It's bias because it is well known that fans have the most realistic point of view about their team. Especially Bills fans! Four years ago the Fitzgailey Bills almost (and should have) beat the Cullerlovie Bears. I'd love to but why not during the game? I really like the idea of Jim Schwartz as DC when we play his old division. Dan Pompei or Brad Biggs? I actually like each. You got that right JJ. I want to see him looking up at stars from the field and the locker room. -

I love WGR! The homeliness is the best. The Score is the most obnoxious pretentious station filled with condescending "personalities" who think they are so funny. They even have a segment called "who you crappin" where they lambast people in the news who contradict themselves. -
Listening to local Chicago sports radio and most are calling the Bills an "easy win" for the Bears in the season opener. It's that same old media bias against the Bills and it kind of stings a little hearing it first hand especially since the Bears were 8-8 last year. How I would love for the Bills to prove them wrong in a big way!

Williams was drafted by a previous Chicago regime- GM Jerry Angelo. Chris Wiliams OL play was one reason that Jay Cutler was always on his back looking at the stars. Angelo could never get the OL staffed well enough to protect Cutler and is one of the reasons he is the former Bears GM. -
Should the New Ownership Fire GM and Coaches?
jethro_tull replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
sure they could. it would be an irresponsible move. Hackett is an impressive young coach with a football playcalling pedigree that started as soon as he could talk. he's adaptable, inteligent and likely to be an offensive innovator once he gets some seasoning. He deserves to keep the keys to the offense! a mental midget? why because he isn't media savvy? i completely disagree. he is a winner and will do the same for this team. agreed and well said. continuous improvement is key to their security but i would allow some slack nonetheless. It isn't too early- it is already a topic among the media and speculation that it is adding to the Marrone's pressure factor. Once again, these are thoroughly vetted guys who have the potential to grow with the team and have already installed their system and style. If the new owner comes in with the automatic pink slips, it will be an irresponsible act for this team. It will also be the first black mark (IMHO) against the new ownership and not a good sign. The first act of the new ownership should be to ensure the security of the staff for at least another season. That is team savvy. I blame the QB situation on Buddy Nix! Not saying EJ is not going to be the man, just saying they should have had a better QB sooner during previous drafts. Also that a veteran backup may not be a bad idea either. Too many holes to fill on this team but they are getting closer by the day. Whaley has done a very good job IMHO. -

In another thread we mentioned the "sky is falling" crowd who were condemning EJ's capabilities and that he has not and will never be a good QB. In that thread we asked how anyone could make that judgement based on his 5/8 of a regular season experience level. Also that he is hurried quite often, especially in camp against our awesome front 7. In addition, the receivers are hardly ever (and not once in the HOF game) getting any separation from their coverage. Basically a hurried QB and fly paper coverage means a recipe for poor QB passing perfromance. Last night's game was the first example where EJ had some time to throw AND the receivers were getting some coverage separation. In other words, the sky is not falling- and if it were, it would certainly not be EJ's fault. -

just answer the questions- hurried? separation by receivers? enough time to develop timng with receivers? it takes a team to win. -

Artvoice stadium plan (downtown)
jethro_tull replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the long term future, renovation and revitalization of the area the stadium should be built in this vicinity, just closer to the water. Buffalo is the waterfront. It is what built the area and made it initially great. It is what makes Buffalo unique. Many examples of how to manage traffic with a W/F stadium- Chicago, San Francisco, etc. You use out lots and shuttles. Soldier Field is a crown jewel of Chicago's lakefront skyline. It helps to show a vital, prosperous image. Nothing advertises a city and region better than an NFL game on national TV. Imagine a lakefront shot, possibly with a western sunset over the water (something few cities in this country have), the shiny new stadium full and illunminated. A Buffalo NY, re-born and vital. DO IT! -
According to most hosts / contributors on WGR the sky is falling because EJ continues to struggle in camp. To that I am completely contrary (at this point) and see no reason to throw in the towell. So far- here is what we do know (facts not opinion): *Our defense is pretty good- on both QB hurries and receiver coverage. *EJ has been hurried- often. *The receivers have not shown an ability to get any separation. *EJ has played 5/8 of a regular season and 1/4 of 1 preseason game. *Inadequate time to develop timing relationship with receivers. *Scott Chandler was his favorite target at 6-ft-7. Where are any other taller receivers? Aside from Lee Smith and Chris Summers (6'-5") and Tori Gurley (6'-4") the remaining (9) receivers on the current roster are 6-3 or shorter, 3 of them are 6' or shorter. So we have a QB who has played 5/8 of a season, a second year training camp vs. a very good defense that hurries and covers well, and receivers that are on the short side that haven't been able to separate yet experienced on-air reporters are calling for the hook (along with many impatient fans)?

After one season? Heck no! This would be the most irresponsible move imaginable and would set this team in reverse for another (2) years before they could move forward again. Whaley, Marrone and Hackett have been groomed for their positions and have the pedigree at this point that qualifies them to have the keys to the team for at least the next (4) seasons. Let them keep the keys! Let them drive the course and figure it out even with some speed bumps along the way. Great coaches and GMs take time to develop. Sometimes many, many seasons. There are lots of examples out there. Four more years!

Would you swap EJ for Fitz right now?
jethro_tull replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
please. hackett is a very impressive adaptable young coach who deserves the keys to the team's offense and to gather experience to become an NFL veteran. in five years he'll eclipse even gailey's best years by miles. -

I honestly cannot believe this question was even asked or that anyone would consider it. BASED ON HALF A SEASON, 1/4 of a PS game AND CAMP REPORTS? Please man! Back away from the ledge! -
EJ and the Offense will be OK, IF-
jethro_tull replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me add another (2) qualifiers to the list- *IF the OL can pass protect better. EJ seems to be hurried a lot in camp and during the HOF game. *IF the receivers can get any separation. I saw zero seperation in the HOF game. This was also a problem last season. Don't know about camp though. The combo platter of being hurried and receivers who cannot separate is enough to make any QB look bad. -
i'm sorry, this reference is lost on me. care to explain?

more of the same from him. what else would we expect? andre said it best.

Is there a team in the history of sports that has endeared themselves to their fans, so many fans, like what we watched last night? Not in the history of sports.
