NFL Draft: Comprehensive Linebacker Analysis
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to jri111's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just went to MYsportsrival.com to look at their mock draft. They had video highlights of certain players. WELL... 90 minutes later I have these observations: 1. You sure lose track of time on Youtube 2. Patrick Willis had many outstanding plays (Obviously, this is a highlight reel !!)He looks like a young Cornelius Bennett or Takeo Spikes at Auburn. I was very impressed. Please, if you have the time....Dozens of plays. 3.Paul Posluszny- PLEASE view them. He is not in the same class. Willis pounds defenders down. POS just kind of rides them down. POS looks and plays smaller. He reminds me of Shane Conlan but not as strong but a very good player. 4. When Marcus McCauley hits you , you go down. I love corners that can tackle like a linebacker. 5. Eric Weddle looks like he has about a 9" vertical. In The Senior Bowl videos he looks he doesn't belong out there. 6. Leon Hall at the Senior Bowl practices looked very slow to react and was beaten by receivers regularly. 7. Ryan Kalil /Center-- Senior Bowl practices dominated Okoye . I understand that drills are not the same as games but, man he came prepared to kick booty. Naturally, these are not their full body of work. I'm just telling you what I saw as I got lost on the internet. Eight days left till my Christmas. I can't wait. P.S. This is not a hate Posluszny post, just telling you my obs... Take Care -

He needs to spend a little less time watching film and a little more time reading this board ! Doesn't he know he's from Penn State ?? -
I am sold. Marshawn Lynch at #12.

I guess the only thing not to like is the "Compares To: Justin Griffith" The rest makes him look like a keeper -

Fair enough. If we pick him, I hope you are right. If the Patriots draft him, I hope he misses a key block and P. Willis or David Harris get by him and send Brady to I.R. -

We could use a fullback right now. Any word on his conditioning ? High character , etc. -
Frank Coyle on Patrick Willis
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure Frank Coyle and Mel Kiper have much, much, more knowledge about the draft than most of us, but it's always bugged me how there rankings change so much, even well after the combines. Kiper had Willis around 24th and I heard talk up some negatives about him about three weeks ago on a talk show. Now he is in his top 15. Do they not have enough confidence in their own views ? Or do they wait to hear from insiders and then reevaluate thier ratings. I don't want to get in to name calling, because they have brought alot of enjoyment to me and made the draft infinitely more interesting to those who love the draft but when a guy is 20th on April 10th and 10th on April 25th.... well what happened ?? -

I was shocked to hear that Harris enjoyed his visit there. I expected him to say that he would go Canada if he was drafted by the Saints. And to the guy who said Leonard was the best all-around back in the draft... We all have the right to our opinion but IMO you've got to take Peterson, Lynch, Pittman and Irons ahead of him, if you are serious about a Running back and they are all on the board. Not a personal attack, just my opinion. If Lynch played on the East Coast and his games weren't starting so late, I don't think there would be much debate about who the two best Running backs are. -
Bills Record in 2007?
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to The Avenger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking about the ones who put 16-0 as being less than objective as well. Or does that make me a negative nilly ? -
Trade rumors involving Detroit's pick at #2.
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe it was Tatum Bell from Oklahoma State that went along with a Tackle, George Foster -
Out of that list I go with MacCauley by a mile. Obviously, if Leon Hall goes to the Bills then they will not go CB in Round 2. If you have the opportunity, look up some video on MacCauley. When he goes to tackleyou, you go down ---> and hard. Clements and Winfield were very good one on one tacklers and I think this guy is in their league. As a Second round pick, I think he would be a great addition. Thanks. Go Bills

Pos as fast or faster than Willis?
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
[quote name='Last Guy on the Bench' date='Apr 17 2007, 02:59 PM' post='973569'field. Which is another reason I like Pos a bit better than Willis, since everyone says Pos's LB instincts are second to none. Everyone ? Other than this board, I haven't seen anyone rate him higher or as high as Willis ? So even though "EVERYONE" rates his instincts second to none they still have Willis higher. -
AsI stated earlier, if we could move down and get another top player in the second (maybe another LB) that would be nice. But what stuck in my mind was Reggie Nelson saying that his team had to be chiding by their coaches not to laugh when watching Ohio State film---seeing the lack of speed in the BIG 10. POS could end up being an All-Pro, but the SEC, currently is the Trile A to the NFL and the BIG 10 is just not deep in talent; more like a Double A league, I would just prefer a guy that's has played against the best before he gets to the pros (when investing in the first round pick).
-
Even without the injury, Willis is the far superior player. He played in a conference that has speed closer to the NFL than the BIG, bad 10. If you can move down and get another solid player in round 2 (maybe even another LB), then I would be happy taking a late first round guy---> in the mid-to-late first round.

Leon Hall is the pick
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure what that has to do with Leon Hall. I think that Marcus McCauley, Chris Houston and even Eric Wright have just as much chance at stardom as does Hall. And they , more than likely, won't be take near as high as Hall. -
Rank the Bills Needs
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to BuckeyeBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We need two linebackers better than what we have , other than Crowell and Ellison. " " " " " cornerbacks to be on the team that aren't on the roster now (maybe three) " " " " a starting running back and another RB to strengthen the position. Another WR would be great but not at the expense of the more pressing needs A TE that has potential to be a stud in a year or two. If one falls thru the cracks we may take one earlier than expected. -
Can't argue with that. It would be unfortunate if the injury limits him, as it will limit the team as well. They reall can't afford to miss at LB, no matter what round they take one... or two... or ?? It would be a bummer to follow up a starter-filled draft of last year with one that doesn't complement it.
-
We are assuming he has a big interest in him. But if the interest level is very high, as you are assuming, Arizona or Washington would seem to be the fit. Having no idea what their board looks like makes it very exciting this year. Peterson may be gone at #3 or drop to #12 . The QB from Cal was projected to go very high in 2005, and ended up being in the lower half of the first round, and Whitner was not projected to go as high as he did. But the SELECTION slot for these players seem much more accurate than the PROJECTION slot leading up to the draft. A solid draft for the Bills, would, IMO, make the team in 2008 a possible Contender to win it all.... and wouldn't that be sweet.
-
I have no idea. I just hope the Bills will line up their board on football ability. I am old enough to remember John Fina, a solid player had he been a third or fourth rounder, as he was projected. Jeff Burris was solid, but never confused with an elite player or first round worthy. I just don't see the love for this guy other than the Penn State mystique. Obviously, I am no expert but from reading and watching; I am fotuante to be able to see many college games in person and on the tube (not saying I know more than anyone else here), there seems no comparison to these two guys on the football field. When you move up the draft board three months after the season, I get a little wary. ERIK FLOWERS comes to mind. The kid from Penn State may be a future all-pro but Willis appears, by the stats and the level of competition, to be the much superior player. My hope , like 99% of this board is for a SuperBowl Victory eventually, but drafting a guy that doesn't SEEM to be worthy of that high of a selection doesn't spark excitement. However after last years draft, I will give Levy and co. the beneift of the doubt if this kid is the selection.

I vote for anybody NOT from Penn State or Michigan. As for Pos.. the more I read the hype, the more I see a "throwback player", like the fish you throw back in the lake after you see it was a waste of time to hook it. PLEASE take the 12th best player, not some great character guy who is the 25th to 30th best player. I don't want the 12th best player scoring three touchdowns on our character guy, even if he is great in the locker room. Sorry , Big 10 = slow, overrated and IMO ( I know I'm in the minority) stats achieved against Indiana, Illinois and a couple of MAC teams don't compare to what Patrick Willis did in the SEC.

Bills @ Miami Nov 11..........
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to Spikes16's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is quite the argument !! How about the mystique of Cam Cameron ? If that's what you're hangin' your hat on, I'll take the Bills future, Thank you very much !! -
I think the Bills will go 10-6
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really can't be as confident as most. Besides who's to know until after the draft. I think all we can be confident on is a split with the Jets, two losses to the Pats and two wins over the pathetic Dolphins. That's 3 wins. Clveland should be a winner and we should be able to split with the NFC East. That's six wins. Maybe a split with the home games (Cincy, and Baltimore). That is seven. I can't see anymore but, as stated, rosters, injuries, and the improvement of our youngsters brings eternal optimism. THANK GOD WE GET THE DOLPHINS TWICE !!! They look worse than last year and just knowing Randy Mueller is there is a great comfort to Bills fans !! -
Philosophical Question
BillsCelticsAngelsBama replied to Tolstoy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My best friend, who is the Warden at a "prestigous" State prison, will tell me over and over again that the determining factor is not as much the color of the inmates skin, but whether he was raised by just one parent (Usually the Mom). The odds are much harder for children brought up in a socially bad environment, especially if they have to raise themselves because the parents aren't around and/or don't meet all of their needs. Naturally, it is not a Universal that children in a good situation will live lives without trouble nor if someone has adversity in their lives will they fail... but the odds are stacked against the latter. It takes tremendous character to overcome such odds. From personal experience, my mother was killed when I was three, and I (thru the Grace of God, and my Sports coaches) was the only one of the four children in our family to graduate High School. Further, I am the only one without a criminal record. If it wasn't for mentors , I don't doubt that I could have ended the same way. However, not to belittle your point of view, because I agree with much of it, having a good upbringing, with loving parents who are involved in their children's lives is a big advantage and maybe you didn't learn the statistics in your psychology class but the reality is that the odds are that the better the upbringing, the better the chance to stay out of trouble and live a productive life.
