It's a center and a guard. I can't think of two easier positions to replace, to be honest. It's time to get younger.

Naive post of the day. Further we have one good lineman and he was a rookie last year You win with. a solid off. Line. They do much that goes unnoticed. Of course I am biased because I coached that position nine of my seventeen years

Could you imagine if the Bills stayed put and still came away with this haul?

    Buffalo Bills

Round 1 (12): Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
Round 1 (22): Rashaan Evans, ILB, Alabama
Round 2 (53): Carlton Davis, CB, Auburn
Round 2 (56): Jordan Lasley, WR, UCLA
Round 3 (65): Nathan Shepherd, DT, Fort Hays State
Round 3 (96): Jamarco Jones, OT, Ohio State

There is certainly a possibility the Bills package 12 and 22 (with some other picks) to go up and get a QB. If they don't, they have six picks in the top 96 to help a roster that has some areas of need. Mayfield is the most experienced QB in this class and would likely compete for the starting job with AJ McCarron. Evans is a solid linebacker with good pass-rush skills. Davis would provide insurance if the Vontae Davis signing doesn't work. Lasley has first-round abilities at wideout, but has fallen from off-field issues. Shepard is a good small-school player and could help fill the hole left by trading Marcell Dareus. Jones provides help on an O-line that traded away Cordy Glenn.

I think Will Hernandez, Isaiah Wynn and James Daniels need to be in play with pick 22 now.

 Horrible draft. I love Mayfield at 12(like that is going to happen ) but hate all the other picks.Evans at 1A is garbage. We don't need any slow, unathletic MLBs. We just shipped out the last one for a 4th rounder. The other picks suck too IMO

Slow??? Watch how fast and aggressive he plays. Just because he played at Bama, he is a very good athlete unlike Ragland.

I am amused by all the experts who know about the "can't miss" rookie QB, who can perform miracles without an offensive line, wide receivers or linebackers on defense. ..... Please remember that or offensive line was bailed out by Taylor's feet and that we have aging ,declining guards, that we lost our starting center and traded away a rotational starting tackle. Three new faces are needed there................ We have one starting linebacker and need two more. Somebody from the first two rounds would do..................... Our wide receivers scare nobody, but Mr. Miracle Quarterback is going to have those guys free down the sidelines for a 50yard gain and shaking loose from coverage over the middle and getting an average 15 yard YAC on every play. Don't think so. At least one pick in the first 3 rounds is needed............Oh, did you forget that we lost some people as FA who had "DB" as their position? Maybe one more pick in the 1st three rounds is needed here...........................................BUT lets ignore all that and trade the first two rounds from this year and next year's first for a 50:50 shot. Yea, right.

With all these needs (six plus a QB = 7) I can not see going in the direction of trading away the draft picks necessary to field a competitive team in order to get a possible star to have wet dreams about. The games are won in the "trenches". A cute rookie QB with a broken leg is not good for anything. I say we should do the following. Stay at #12 in case the QB that the Bills could live with is available. If not, they trade down and get your Bart Starr, Jim Kelly or Dan Marion with a later pick. (with arm twisting, moving up 3-4 spots and losing next year's 2nd rounder would be okay)

Here is what we could get with a trade-down from the #12 pick.

down to gets us this overall pick

    ==============================

    #14............100th player (4th round)

    #16.............78th player (3rd round)

    #18............60th player (2nd round)

    #20............55th player

    #22.............48th player

    #24.............44th player

    #26.............40th player

    #28.............36th player

    #30.............32nd player

    #32...............30.5th player (1st round)

    .

    .

From Walter Football, here is a list of the players in that 30-55 range that we get for "free" by trading down. (I don't agree that all these guys will be available this low, but it gives you the idea).

A good center, a good linebacker, a good WR or a good RB. You get an extra solid player, probably a starter, for your effort. If the best QB shots are gone at #12, build a strong team with those 7 picks and take a QB out of the top 15.

I say we trade with ourselves at 22 and get the 48th pick

    - - - run the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine or at his recent Pro Day???

ALL the combine events are optional. Why take a test that has been proven to be very culturally & racially biased based on an individuals education and life experiences at a young age? All NFL executives know this but get a bit nervous picking a team leader (QB) with a low score.

Maybe his Wonderlic score explains the answer to the topic question

They are baiting Beane..Trying to get him to overpay. It's a typical Pats ploy when they get worried that a division rival might be on the verge of a substantial improvement.

However, the current regime isn't Rex and company; it's not Trader Tom or Marv as a GM, it's not Buddy or Doug or Russ.

McBeane is patient and knows the Bills have all the assets they need to outbid anyone if it comes to that. Let them run this before we go all...

You REALLY think this move was to get the Bills to overpay. Not sure they really care about the Bills, only improving their team. But maybe you're right and maybe the Patriots were behind 9/11 and worked with the Russians to screw with the elections and the Assassination of JFK as well.

Watch Mike White be the best quarterback to come out of this draft. That would be funny. Especially if we stay put at 12 and 22 and keep our extra 2nd and 3rd.

I'm thinking I would be just as happy with Kyle Lauletta from Richmond or Mike White from Western Kentucky AS I would be with Mason Rudolph. Plus you could probably draft those guys @ 53, 56, or 65. But I still want to see a trade up if the Bills have their eyes on ONE specific QB. I'm thinking this would be quite the adrenaline rush for a GM with this many picks. We know he is aggressive based on the chess like maneuvers made last year. Can't Wait

Jamarco Jones top twenty? I like him, I think he’ll convert to a guard seamlessly, but I think he’s a 2nd day pick, maybe third day.

third day. This kind of looks like things a bit slanted towards the horseshoe. Jerome Baker is an athlete but not a good football player and they have him @ #51. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but...... yikes. AND Nick Chubb @ #14 and Billy price @ #17 seem way, way too high

But the bills went just as far in the playoffs as the rams with a fifth round cast off... sigh alright your right Carson Wentz won the playoff from IR.

i give up. Beane if you don’t trade every pick for the next 5 years to draft matt leinart or Robert Griffin I’m so done with this team

Nothing personal but you may be the worst debater on this site. Just Keep digging your hole deeper and deeper.

Wentz had to throw every chance he got because no one saw him. Darnold was playing on national television every game.

Never mind Terrytale just beat 29 years for worst debater

I don’t understand the question then.

Is wentz good- seemed like it till he blew out his knee and became a cheerleader

did the eagles win the championship- yes

did Wentz have something to do with it- partially

was it worth the future collateral they traded- TBD

Would wentz have won the Super Bowl- don’t know

Will he be able to carry the team once they shed talent without the replenishing picks- unknown

There is no conclusion on wentz. His story isn’t yet written. He made some nice plays. He’s not won a playoff game in two seasons as a pro despite being a #2 overall. Same is true of #1 Foles.

maybe the gotta trade into the top 5 crowd should follow the jets.

Would the Eagles rescind the Wentz trade if given the option to go ack in time. Of course not Great trade. One of the best trades in years.

Steve Billieve wrote "You never know what will happen. Top 3 overall QBs have a much higher success rate than those late in the first or after. We've set the board to draft a QB high, which I guess is why this is a thread at all.

Do we change the game plan now?

I don't know what the game plan was, although a lot of people think they do know. A good manager will have an up-front plan, but should be able to take advantage of changes in the situation. A military axiom is " No plan survives contact with the enemy". What IS the gameplan?

Version #1 (most obvious): The Bills were planning on tanking in 2017, so they would draft high and get a franchsie QB in the 2018 draft. They screwed up and got pick #21 and have been trying to claw their way back to the top of the draft. They traded away good players (Watkins) to get more draft picks. They desperately traded away their (often) starting left offensive tackle to get a #12 so they might trade up to a top 3 (5?) pick.

Alternate Version #2. The Bills worked in the off season to clear high salary cap, fairly good players in order to stockpile picks to rebuild the team. This includes a shot at a superior QB as well. They have been wheeling and dealing and the last guy out was the LOF to bump up one of the draft picks to #12. They will draft a QB with that draft and will get a good one. The rest of the draft (5 more picks in the first three rounds) will be used to restock the offensive line (center!), linebackers and wide receivers. They got McCarron as a two year stopgap, to give time for that rookie QB to develop. They don't have to draft an immediate NFL ready guy who will start in game 1.

I think Alternate Version #2 is what they are going with. By, the way, if we go with plan Version #1, I will HATE seeing the 5 players we could have drafted beating the Bills in games for the next 7 years.

There's no way Version #2 is the plan. IMO they have already discussed trade plans with picks #1-#4 and will know who they are getting by the morning of the draft. The league is different than 35 years ago. You can't breathe on receivers so the value of an accurate QB is more important than back then. This Version lends itself to management thinking, "what the hell, we'll take the best quarterback left". They are too focused IMO to just let the chips fall where they may. Unless they go thru workouts and have 5 QB's they like, not likely. then they could trade to #7 Tampa Bay. All these moves were not made to praying and hoping their guy is there at #12.

    11 hours ago, wppete said:

Have a feeling we are either trading for #2 or #3 this year. Rosen or Darnold.

You are on the right track for sure. the Bills were aggressive in trades last year; and that was for a receiver and O-Lineman. If they can find a partner; and I think they probably already have, a tentative one(or two)deals are already in the works. They ARE are trading for our next QB.
