If his goal is to become a HC… Brady was on the staff before, is beloved in the city, knows the owner. He’s not the guy following THE guy in Payton, so the pressure will be different than it was for Allen. If expectations are managed correctly walking in the door and Gayle Benson (or whomever is representing the ownership interest) accepts that there needs to be a tear down it buys him some runway. That, and the fans love their football. There are worse places to coach.

There was a clear progression of that 90's team. We knew in 88 and 89 that was a team on the rise. The heartbreak of those playoff losses in those seasons fueled the SB run the next 4 seasons, and then you could see them tailing off throughout the rest of that decade after that last SB appearance. I remember watching Kelly throw an INT on the goal line against Miami that was returned for a TD in either '95 or '96 and it was so clear. It was a BAD decision for most QBs due to the small window, but one that would have been a Bills TD so many other times during his career because of his arm strength, his moxy, and his accuracy. But the arm was gone and the glory days were over. That's what scares the ever-living-***** out of me with this iteration of the Bills. They're sooo much fun to watch, and Allen is such a once in a lifetime talent, but one day we will wake up and it will be over. If the Bills don't take full advantage of this once in a lifetime gift it will be criminal.

I had an internal debate about whether or not to say it so emphatically. The thing that made me include it is the fact he's 28. We look at Bruce and OJ through the lens of the entirety of their career. If Allen's career ended tomorrow, I'd still say he's the best football player the Bills have ever seen. Hopefully, with Allen, the best is still yet to come.

Depending on your age, from a league-wide dominance standpoint, that would be the early 90's Bills. They were loaded with future hall of famers and they beat other dominant teams routinely with the exception of the SB's. I would say at this point Allen is the best football player the Bills have ever had, hands down, but this is nowhere near the best Bills team we've ever seen.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I have Saints season tix, so I follow more closely than the other 30 not-Buffalo teams. Allen was awful. So milquetoast, and so out of his league. Kubiak, though, was a HUGE upgrade over Carmichael. If I were the Saints, I don’t let Kubiak out of his contract until the HC is in place and vets him. Now if Brady actually does end up there, unless they have some sort of prior working relationship, presumably Kubiak would be gone under those circumstances.

Maybe they can hire a Game Day Specialist while they're at it.

IDK, the offsetting interference calls on that long Rams completion was pretty bad, as well, the Rams just overcame it.

While all of this may be true, the galling part of the play call is how it basically shut the door on any chance of victory, no matter how slim it may have been. We see improbable comebacks every season in the league, and we see decisions like this undermine the Bills chances of being one of those improbable comebacks every season, as well.
