Well, with Basham gone and Miller out, he's going to get starts and more snaps, and he damn well BETTER show us more. Without a strong pass rush, our deep hole at MLB will be exposed, and we could be 2-2 or worse by the time Miller gets back.

I hear he's a little nicked up. I'm here this weekend.
-
Which I'm sure he would do, if the Bills brought him back. He is available unless another team has grabbed him.

PSE got to be a very big and complex organization, and with Kim not there to bulldog things, I think it's just too big for Terry to handle alone. The parts of PSE other than the Bills and Sabres will just have to find new homes.

Bills Bears Preseason Game on Sunday Ticket This Saturday
Utah John replied to TSNBDSC's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was very helpful for You Tube to show yesterday's Bills game. I was able to try to watch the game, and couldn't get it to play. I spent about an hour on the phone with a You Tube rep, and we finally got things straightened out. I would be royally pissed if I'd wasted an hour of a regular season game doing that. -
That's, cool, but I'm less interested in that, than I am that he sounds like a good high-ceiling project at a position the Bills need and the Browns gave him up for only an anonymous RB. We've got RBs to spare. I wonder if Beane was trying to make this deal and just lost out.

The mystery isn't why he keeps getting cut. The mystery is why he keeps getting signed.

Elam now CB4 and playing kickoff coverage in the preseason
Utah John replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
To me, the happy news is that Benford as developed into such a good player, not that Elam hasn't. Elam is not a complete bust, just a guy who's not developing as much as you'd expect from a 1st round pick. He'd probably be playing if Benford hadn't refused to go quietly into the night. -
Thanks for the reminder. IIRC Fred used a stiff-arm on his run.

My guess is that the Bills have too many leaders, and not enough top dog Leaders. At least half a dozen players have the career resume, skills, and personality to be respected and listened to by the others. But every year there's a playoff game where no one single person steps up and tells the entire team to shape up, play like the're capable of, and let's go get this game won. The Bills took the lead against KC with 13 seconds to go, and no one stepped up to say, OK, this isn't over, let's play smart and play hard. We only need two or three good plays from the ST and D, and the game is ours. Instead everyone just figured, we're the mighty Bills, this is our year, and what could go wrong? The Cinci playoff game last season was shocking. How on earth could the Bills, who'd struggled all year to try for the top seed and now had a home playoff game, and who knew the Bengals O line was a mess, NOT pull it together and get out there and win? I think all the second tier leaders all figured the other guys would get people motivated When Damar Hamlin died (yes, for a short time, he was dead), Diggs tried to get everyone fired up, but he didn't read the room. The team was in shock, and no one was willing to get back in gear and play. I think Diggs was disappointed and embarrassed by that, and if there's a lingering problem between Diggs and the Bills it goes back to that. This is a case where no one was wrong. Diggs was intent on winning that game, and he thought the team could rally and put the bad start and Hamlin's injury behind them. He was right to want to try to do that. The rest of the team was also right, not to want to do that. So the problem as I see it is there is no top dog Leader. That person ought to be Josh Allen. When Brady was with the Pats, he made it a point to introduce himself to each player as they onboarded. Hi, I'm Tom Brady. Of course they knew who he was, but it was the way he went about it that made the rest of the team follow him. (The Pats problems since Brady left are probably as much due to the loss of him as a leader, as it is as an on-field QB.) As great a player as Josh is, I don't think he's making the effort to bring the team together. He's out there dating, making commercials, living the good life of a crazy wealthy, single young man. Who can blame him? I don't. But at the same time if he was willing to forgo some of those pleasures, the team would be tighter and better.

Bills Bears Preseason Game on Sunday Ticket This Saturday
Utah John replied to TSNBDSC's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think if you move fast you can still get $50 off the season price. I don't have a You Tube subscription but I did get Sunday Ticket. Not sure yet how this will work. I thought by now I'd get info from You Tube about how to watch games on their channel, but so far nada. -
The Jets D is very good, but the O is full of holes. Very good QB, very good WR1, two very good RBs, and that's it. Lousy O line, no other threats at WR or TE. Double Wilson, stack the box, and attack Rodgers -- and the Bills have the players to do all that.

Has anyone checked on Louis Riddick? (Trey Lance news...)
Utah John replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
I look at this way. If Josh Allen is injured for a game or two, it's fine that the backup is a game manager. Depending on who the opponent is, the backup could still lead this strong team to wins. But if Josh Allen is injured for a lot of games or for the year, the Bills are cooked. In this case, it's better to have a project with talent to grow, who will spend the rest of the season learning to play QB. Maybe that guy remains the Bills' backup until his rookie contract runs out, or if he looks really good the Bills can trade him for more than they paid for him. The 49ers gave up a ridiculous amount to draft Lance and it will be hard for their brass to swallow giving him up for cheap. But if they think Darnold is a better backup that says right there that they missed this one badly. -
Yeah, that wasn't his fault, it was a precaution to be sure the Bills had a QB available in case JA got sick. But it definitely held back his development as a player because he couldn't practice or participate in meetings with other players.

When did Steve Tasker become such a homer?
Utah John replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most don't, that's true, but good ones often do. I was in the military (Air Force) and I worked for the Army as a civilian. In both cases, there were mandated annual sessions where both the supervisor and the member/employee were encouraged to discuss good and bad things. Not surprisingly most of that flowed from supervisor down but many people took the opportunity seriously, and often things got better as a result. This isn't the situation with Tasker, where he's not having a discussion with his boss, he's talking publicly about the results of his boss's actions. This is a whole different thing than a private conversation between two people. -
The key to the game will be which D line can take advantage of the opposing O line. In the playoff game against the Bengals, the Bills supposedly had the edge because of the poor O line of the Bengals. But our D line failed to show up, and Burrow carved up our injury depleted D backfield. The Bills D backfield is in better shape now, but the immense hole at MLB is going to make Rodgers fat and happy unless our D line finally plays well. The Jets D line is very good but its strength is mostly in the middle, where the Bills finally seem to have found some answers. The Bills have a good chance to win if our OTs can play at even an average level.

He'd have even better numbers if he was throwing to receivers who could catch the ball. Oh, geez. It's Jake Fromm Start Farm. The Bills PS'd Fromm, hoping to train him up and use him in future years. Unfortunately for that plan, he was signed away by the Giants. When the Giants cut him, the Bills had Keenum on the squad as the backup, and they didn't go after Fromm. Only now does the deficiency in K Allen make it clear another plan is needed. If the Commanders cut Fromm, I think the Bills should try hard to bring him on board.

Game Day Thread? Bills @ Steelers 8/19
Utah John replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall
Huh. You must not have seen the late 70s. -
I agree with all this. In particular, I think the age factor contributes to a lot of the OJ cancellation that people want to impose. He clearly committed horrible crimes and I have no respect for him as a man, but as a football player he was possibly the most dominant RB and overall player of the 70s. There is an age perspective at work here. I still watch Kevin Spacey and Woody Allen and Roman Polanski movies and shows, despite what misdeeds they may have committed. My 20-something daughter rejects any exposure to these people. We agree to disagree about this. Somehow younger people insist on pretending they're more pure because they selectively avoid works by people on their naughty list. I don't feel dirty or impure because I watch a good Spacey or Allen or Polanski movie, and it doesn't reflect badly on me that I can differentiate between the person and the person's achievements.

A lot of those brilliant long runs would have been 2 or 3 yards except for the great O line we had. That's not to take anything away from OJ but go back and watch how many of those runs started with a pulling guard or Braxton creating a gap off-tackle. OJ's speed and elusiveness did the rest. Simpson always gave credit to Lou Saban for building the offense around him, after the Rauch disaster during Simpson's first couple of years. Simpson + Saban = Mahomes + Reid The game was different then (50 years ago, what else would you expect) where rushing was king and the pass game was secondary. There was a game during Simpson's years in Buffalo against the Jets where the Bills QB did not complete a single pass, and the Bills won. Joe Namath completed two passes to the Bills, and two or three to his own receivers. It's almost inconceivable today for an NFL team to win without an effective passing game. Because it's fun to watch a great player in action.

Another talented RB who isn't getting paid what he thinks he's worth. And another talented veteran who didn't want to go to training camp. But when you're going to a new team, training camp is necessary. We'll see if he's up to speed on the first game of the season, against the Bills.

1. The Bills got bigger where they needed to get bigger, and faster where they needed to get faster. 2. Kyle Allen. Ummm....

OT…All is not going well on South Beach
Utah John replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is almost exactly what everyone said before the Bills (or some imposters) played the Bengals in the playoffs last year. In order to take advantage of an opponent's bad O line, our D line has to show up. -
Jets sense frustration from Aaron Rodgers after spotty practice
Utah John replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Statistically ours is better. And compared to the end of last year, we add Hyde, actual White, healthy Poyer, Floyd, Ford, plus some depth players that are better than last year's depth players. It's gonna be a tough game for both offenses. Both O lines don't look to be as good as both D lines, so it will come down to broken plays keeping drives alive.
