This is a must win game for the Bills.
Utah John replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You never know. Josh Allen hasn't had a stinker of a game in a while. He's young and will still have a few of those to get through. Everyone's assuming he's going to keep playing as well or better than he has been, but that's not a sure thing. -
How about if AB keeps signing with the team that's going to play the Dolphins the following Sunday, and then gets cut the following Monday. He'd be en route for some killer stats after the rest of the season playing against air week after week.

Fairburn: Singletary officially out this week
Utah John replied to DCOrange's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills injury report has four players on it. Three are out but all have injuries that should be short term. One is questionable. This seems like a miraculously short list. Here's hoping the Bill's good fortune carries forward. -
Jets fans do not live in reality.
Utah John replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would be well to remember that if the Jets' MLB didn't get injured, we're 1-1 on the year. I think the Bills are in the second quintile and the Jets are in the third. We're better but not by that much, and we need to keep winning to have it mean a thing. -
The Jets and Giants did both pass on him, but come on. The Giants hit a home run with Saquon Barkley, probably the best RB in the league. The Jets took Sam Darnold, who could turn out to be just as good as Josh. Neither team deserves shame for their picks. I'm just glad Allen was still around when the Bills picked. Remember there was some serious concern about another team jumping ahead of the Bills to get him. Beane played it right and Josh was still there. There was also a lot of chatter in Buffalo that the Bills picked the wrong Josh, including from me, and good lord how wrong we were. It is ABOUT TIME things broke right for the Bills and I couldn't be happier with our guy.

Well, the guy did go to Harvard. He is no dummy. He's been able to play pro football for a lot longer than some people with more talent manage to do. He's never had the ginormous payday a franchise QB gets, but over time he's made many millions of dollars. He's a good guy in a stable marriage, and he's stayed healthy so he'll have many good years to enjoy the fruits of his labors. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a role model for all the people who are pretty good at their jobs and who make the system work for them.

Time for Kaepernick to officially retire from NFL?
Utah John replied to prissythecat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he was right about the protests, but the NFL is not going to allow itself to be shown up by a mere employee. He was in decline when he stopped playing because he has a limited game and D coordinators had figured him out. He could still be a better backup than what half the teams have for their backups. But, he hasn't been in a training camp or OTAs, let alone regular season, for a couple of years. The game has probably moved on. For him to come to a team in QB need in the middle of a season would be incredibly hard. Early after he left, I think there's no question he was blackballed. At this point I think teams don't want him because he doesn't provide the skills they need. -
Edmunds vs the run - a liability?
Utah John replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't keep track of Edmunds so I can't agree or disagree with any of these comments. However he's very tall for a MLB. I know he's very fast but I wonder if that height means he can't be quick, changing directions and accelerating like a shorter man can do (almost all RBs for example). Some quickness comes from upper and lower body strength, and perhaps he could put on more muscle without slowing himself down. When I see him I'm not sure what position God meant this guy to play. Taller than most LBs, lighter than DEs, way too tall to play DB, certainly not a DT. Well the Bills seem to be doing just fine on D and the MLB is the key to that, so I guess it's been figured out already. I will make it a point to look for him during Sunday's game. -
Just Beat the Bengals -- Don't Look Ahead
Utah John replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So if we, or newspaper writers, start looking ahead, does that mean the team will too? And lose games they should win, and disappoint us? While I seriously doubt any players are posting here, there's always the karma thing, that the players might pick up from the air in Orchard Park or East Aurora. I just don't think it's worth the risk. They're 0-0 and trying to get their first win of the year on Sunday. -
Grading Week 2 performances of NFL's next generation of QBs
Utah John replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a pretty fair, accurate article. Allen continues to look better than last year. He's gonna have a bad game sooner or later, so we shouldn't be too crazy when it happens, but for now it's nice watching him grow. -
Mike Greenberg Flips out about Jets - Get Up
Utah John replied to Rochesterfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doesn't anyone besides me realize how close we came to losing to the Jets? Doesn't anyone besides me think we WOULD have lost to the Jets if their MLB didn't get hurt? I don't think there's any reason to think Darnold won't be a very good QB. No QB can play well behind a bad O line and with a bad offensive game plan, and most QBs will have a tough time against the Bills D. But, with Darnold out for a month or so, I agree the season looks grim for the Jets. I've been in that place myself with quite a few Bills teams. FWIW, I googled 2-0 contenders or pretenders to see what people were saying about the Bills. I happened to get linked to a 2018 article. Guess which AFCE team was 2-0 last year. Miami. So it is possible to collapse really really fast, if you have the right coach. -
Two or three times a game, the refs get out their Magic Eight Ball and do whatever it says to do.

He might be playing for the Chiefs but I still wish him well. He was a good Bill and deserves nothing but respect.

A Few Thoughts about the Giants game, in no particular order
Utah John replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't be a champion until you make the playoffs. You can't make the playoffs without winning at least 10 games (most years). The Bills are playing to get Ws, not stats or publicity. I noticed my own reaction today, that I'm now watching games sort of expecting the Bills to win, unless they're playing one of the few really elite teams, and even then I expect it to be competitive. It hasn't been this say in a long, long time. Maybe we'll all get that one SB win before we die. -
A Few Thoughts about the Giants game, in no particular order
Utah John replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tough luck for Edmunds, not getting the pick and probably a pick six. He's playing well, as far as I can see, but getting very little ink. Is that a good thing or a bad thing for a MLB? -
Smart D against a team that runs well but which has an old QB and injured WRs. Barkley might be the best RB in the league right now, and the Bills stopped him enough to win.

One of the nice things about the Bills under McD is the businesslike approach. One week at a time, one game plan at a time, and good solid effective schemes to attack the other team's defense and handle their offense. This is not the week to look ahead to the Patriots. This is the week to prepare for the Bengals.

Game clock at the end with 5 minutes to play
Utah John replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems the like refs screw something up on timekeeping every single week. This should be the most basic job of all. Of course one of those times victimized the Saints. That team is just snake-bit. Did anyone else catch what happened today? The Saints strip sacked Goff, and the ball bounced to a defender, who ran it back about 80 yards for a TD, in a very close defensive game. The Saints should have gone ahead on the play. Instead a ref blew the play dead. They're supposed to let the play proceed if it's close between a fumble and an incomplete pass, but instead they blew it dead. The Saints did get the ball but way back in their own end. The Bills have been screwed by refs, but never so many times so badly in a short span of games. If what's been happening to the Saints happened to the Bills, we'd be throwing refs over Niagara Falls. Without a barrel. -
Currently the only way it would be possible is if some team's home stadium was unavailable for some reason, and their game had to be moved somewhere, and it just happened to be that an away team played both games there. In a year or two it will be possible in Los Angeles, if the same away team is scheduled to visit to play the Rams and the Chargers. I sure hope it isn't the Bills. They historically haven't traveled well to the West Coast, particularly for two games in a row.

Thursday Night Football Tampa at Car, NFL Network

A close game but not really a good game. Two pretty bad teams seeing which one would lose. Not like the Saints - Texans game. Oh my that was exciting. -
Tee Higgins future bills receiver
Utah John replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If next year's draft was done this past spring, yeah, I could see going high for a WR like Jeudy. That's probably the area with the least blinding talent on the team. At least that's how it looks now. Let's see how things go this year, and who develops. -
And why not? You're only going to get one penalty for holding, and the game will be over so who cares about the penalty in the first place?

WR Terrance Williams works out for Buffalo
Utah John replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Beane is just doing due diligence. Know who's out there, what they can do. I wonder who pays the travel expenses for these guys. Most are wannabees who aren't going to make it, and who probably can't afford unlimited plane fare. Plus how could these guys hold down regular jobs while traveling all over for workout beauty shows?
