This is a joke right? The Bills overvalued Troup & Carrington and seem to overvalue the DE's that they have drafted in the early rounds three years in a row! Chris Ellis is a bust who hardly plays and is forgettable, Aaron Maybe Maybin is a undersized tweener who so far has been a bust and was overvalued by the Bills who passed on the highest rated DE in the draft Bryan Orakapo that the rest of the leaugue held in much higher regard and has so far passed the test. This Year selecting A. Carrington seems like a similar over value in the Bills assesment of Carrington's perceived talent. I think they screwed up on the DE selection which remains to be seen. Aaron Schobel has sold his house in O.Park and will likely be retiring. Schobel has consisitently been a bright spot at DE and will be missed. © Offensive line got addressed late in the draft and selected a guy...Wang..who has been a disappointment to date. He has some of the attributes you look for in a OT but has not performed nor shown the williness to perform up to his potential. (Sound's like a poor man's Mike Williams in my book).... Eric Woods has not been cleared to practice and is not yet able to practice due to his potential career ending injury last year. It was a severe ACL/MCL injury that he may never recover from. Levitre is a little undersized but is a fairly sound player that can play multiple positions on the line. He may be a solid pick and a good player. He probably will never be the caliber of a probowl player but he's okay...and if Wood continues to progress he has probowl potential. There is still questions at left tackle and the position is still a weakness. (C-) The QB position is a postion of weakness and competiton on the Bills. There is no clear cut choice for QB and most everyone has a QB on the Bills that they wished were released, but few people have a favorite. Trent Edwards is shell-shocked ever since his first concussion. He has had maybe one or two good weeks since and many horrific performances. T. Edwards looks at his initial read and if the receiver is covered this is when Trent Edwards becomes undone. Most of the time Trent Edwards falls into a panic mode and just dumps the ball off to the closest receiver, tight end, or running back. The net gain is usually negligible. Trent Edwards also has difficulty sensing pressure on the edge or for that matter pressure coming right up the middle. Once T. E. gets into a panic mode he has a tendancy to fumble snaps and take sacks. In the duration of Trent Edwards career in Buffalo it has unfolded that there has been a steady decline, a loss of confidence, and an unwillingness to take the blame. Trent Edwards also supposedly had a hand in Turk Schonert's dismmisal as the Offensive Coordinator and hid beneath the protective cover of Dick Jauron last season. When things continued to get ugly and Alexander Van Pelt was fired as Offensive Coordinator and Dick Jauron as coach, Trent Edwards blamed both coaches for the offensive blunders last season. In my humble opinion Trent Edwards needs to be released prior to the regual season! For the other QB's R. Fitzpatrick is a adequate at best back-up QB. He has bright moments, but is mostly plagued with poor Quarterback play. There would be no ramifications for releasing Fitzpatrick as he is not a potential starting QB in the NFL and with his many years in the NFL and is expendible. The smartest move(s) the Bills could make this off-season/pre-season is to continue to evaluate the talent/or lack of at the position. Determine which QB's have a long term future with the Bills. I think when it all plays out that B. Brohm and Levi Brown will remain on the team due to their youth, and potential that they have. With Edwards and Fitzpatrick what you see is what you get. If Edwards blinks the wrong way this off-season he will be a roster casualty! I think the Bills are in the process of carefully evaluating QB Free agent's, and potential free agents that may be cut prior to the regular season. I don't know which veteran Free agent they should go for (Mark Bulger??) but I think that they desperately need a QB that has had a healthy dose of victory at some juncture in his career. They need someone with the experience that can help mentor the 2 young QB's they have on this roster so this doesn't occur again in the future like it did with Lossman & Edwards. (D) The Bills haven't shown much in Tight End even though I was excited last year about the prospects of Shawn Nelson. He hasn't had the impact yet that he is capable of which should hopefully come to fruitation this year. The other TE's are marginal. Overall this position has average talent. © Wide Receiver is not a positon of strength to date. Hardy has hardly been a impact player in anyone's opinion to date. He is hardly used due to multiple injuries and may be a bust. Stevie Johnson has great training camps but has not been an impact player in the regular season. I feel he could be a good WR, but can't be taking seriously until it happens. Marcus Easley gives me hope based on about 7 or so games in his senior year of college. Prior to that the offense was not a passing offense and he had no impact. Which Easley are we getting remains to be seen and the talent level in the NFL is far greater than his little school. Lee Evans is a solid wide receiver and will be again this year barring injury. He hasn't had the opportunity to excel due to the floundering Quarterback positon and the lack of multiple receiving threats the Bills have had in past years. T. Owens should have been retained in my opinion at a lower cost, but obviously there must be more going on behind the scenes on this front than the general fan is aware of. Sure, he lost a step, drops passes some, doesn't dive for a catch..but he is still a force that would a dimension to the Bills offense. Seeing that the Bills already issued #81 this season he probably isn't coming back to the Bills. Josh Reed isn't great but he's been fairly solid for the Bills overall. All receivers stats suffered last season and I only hold Reed partially responsible. I think it would be smart to resign Josh Reed if he is still available? Overall, this position is one solid receiver short (C-) The running back positon was a positon of strength overall prior to the draft. It seemed foolish to me despite the talent of C.J. Spiller to draft him with the Bill's #9 pick in the draft. This was a luxury pick that the Bill's didn't have! The Bills already have the highly productive Fred Jackson and with a better attitude M. Lynch is a highly capable back who just needs to get his head screwed on right, while he still can! If the Bills trade Lynch prior to the regular season for needed positional talent at another position then the whole scenario makes sense and I will praise the braintrust of the Bills instead of mocking them. But, to date I will stick with the latter and tell you that if they keep Lynch that the Bills don't need 3 starting runningbacks and one will probably be the odd man out on the bench and that will probably be Lynch. By drafting C.J. Spiller the Bill's also showed Fred Jackson a lack of committment and trust in his abilities and the coach already said that he isn't in the business of worrying about players feelings, that he only worries about wins! This is a good attitude for a coach to have, but maybe not to convey to his players. Gailey's & Nix's lack of confience will probably catch up to them at free agency time down the road. (B+) Kickers are important, but not important enough to try to sell your season ticket holders on purchasing tickets for the upcoming season. Especially when they send a portrait to potential season ticket holders of Moorman punting during the horrific Cleveland Brown's game last year! Not a good marketing move!! Of course we know that Lindell/Moorman are a super tandem of kickers and the grade reflects (A) I'm running out of time..and the D line still isn't up to par! Surprise...okay, but yes it is improved with Dwan and Troup will probably be an adequate upgrade. I don't think he was the best selection, but okay. Overall I'll give the D-Line average marks which a marked improvement (C+) Linebackers is intersting..alot of new personnel including undrafted DE's and OLB's that may fit the 3-4 scheme. Carrington is intersting with upside. I don't have a lot of confidence in Pozluzny like some of you as he seems injury prone. Mitchell has not had the anticipated impact either. I think once the Coaches figure out what personnel fits and where to make the cuts this unit could be a unit of strength. I'll give it a (C+) for now but expect them to be a (B) by season's end when they gel as a unit and become more accustomed to the 3-4 defense. Defensive back has consistently been a positon of superiority for the Bills. I think that will continue and give the Bills a (A-) at that position. I hope Byrd can have as productive of a season as last year and won't have a touch of a sophmore jinx. I hope Leodis McKelvin continues to grow as a player as I think he has the potential to be a great player! (A-) General Manager (C+) Head Coach (C+) Marketing (D) But, until they snap the ball these grades are based on interaction with the team, the fanbase, and the media, and drafting, and finding personnel to fill their roster. Overall, I see the Bills have an unusual year, with a horrific first five games. I think when the Bills gel as a team there will be marked improvement, but a little too little too late! I think when all is said and done that Brohm OR Brown will become established as the quarterback of the future! I think it will likely be due to injury when one of the two get their shot and I think they will show promise, keep us tuned in and give us a reason for hope providing their is a season in 2011. I was not thrilled by the draft, but their are some potential gems that have high risk/high reward potential. If things work in the Bills favor they may be a 8-10 game winner in 2011! But, with new coaching, systems, players, and a tough schedule my prediction for the 2010 Buffalo Bills is: 5-11

2010 NFL POWER POLL ALL 32 NFL TEAMS!!!!
tonyjustbcuz replied to tonyjustbcuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There wasn't any correlation between Cincy and Buffalo....#17 thru 32 was in a 2nd column...and when I entered it the column lost it's spacing that's it......I did this quickly (3 am) and thought some people would be surprised how high I had the Jets and how low some other teams were.......I really was looking for other people to rank the teams as well because I like to see the various projections which usually have a great variance. -
Let's see...for controversy sake I'll try this myself first and try to pick a few outlandish picks to stir the pot up a bit!! #1 Indianapolis #17 Wash #2 Baltimore #18 Carolina #3 New Orleans #19 Miami #4 NY Jets #20 Seattle #5 Dallas #21 Tennesee #6 Minnesota #22 S.F. #7 New England #23 Arizona #8 Houston #24 Tampa Bay #9 Green Bay #25 Chicago #10 Atlanta #26 St. Louis #11 Philadelphia #27 Detroit #12 Pittsburgh #28 Cleveland #13 NY Giants #29 Oakland #14 Cincinatti #30 Buffalo #15 San Diego #31 Jacksonville #16 Denver #32 k.city

The Bills defy logic at every corner...I thought the more competition the better? I thought Josh Reed really came into his own in the past few years. It's not he's fault that Captain Checkdown can't throw a 10 yard pass half the time...I've seen Edwards throw it into the turf many times, overthrow, underthrow, hold on to long, get sacked which leads to concussions. It's not because all his receivers are covered and often it is not because the line didn't hold off defenders. I've seen Trent on occasion have all day and he stares down his primary receiver and don't look for other reads or look of his intended target. Cornerbacks must love T. Edwards! As far as Josh Reed I don't hold him that responsible for his lack of production last year. If your QB can't get you another series of downs on each possession then it affects everyone's stat's. I also am not a huge T.O. fan but he would occasionally catch a big pass and get everyone excited, now we don't have that. Yes, it sounds as Spiller has big play ability but he is a unproven commodity at this juncture in the NFL. He isn't going to be catching the ball deep most of the time if any either. So, he may catch a little swing pass or something and take it for 10 or 20 yards, but it will probably be rare that he is going to bring it to the house when he makes a reception. We should've kept T.O. and Reed, especially Reed as he comes cheap and provides experience, and depth at the position. Right now, we have some rookie free agents, a mid-round draft pick, Hardy who has been a non-factor and may still have injury problems, Stevie Johnson who occasionally makes a play and Lee Evans who is a good to very good receiver, but not a hall of famer at this point. So where is the depth??? Get Josh Reed back soon!!!!
-
I don't know what's worse...not having a big arm like Fitz, but occasionally connecting on a big throw.............Or, having the potential to throw a big pass w/Edwards but avoiding ever taking that chance? I'd like to see them both gone and get Bulger for a year or two with Brohm and Levi being waiting in the wings! At least Bulger knows the position well and can teach the rooks!! What's Edwards gonna teach the young QB's except to make sure their cautious and don't throw the ball down the field!

CJ Spiller to get about 12 carries per game
tonyjustbcuz replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like there may be an odd man out of the trio of RB's and I think that it will be Lynch. I think You'll see Spiller get about 15 and Jackson about 15 which doesn't leave much for Lynch. I sure hope he gets traded for something or someone at this point! -
Isn't Iit convienient to put words in someone's mouth that they didn't even say...Never said they suck....Ever! They are a 5-11 team + or - 1 win period! I surely think I could've done a better job than the Bills have in the past 10 years! I probably should be making millions as u mentioned, obviously the Bills have squandered millions over the past decade and have a worse record than 0-0 ! So the professionals have netted the Bills a sub-500 record and your satisfied with that! WeLL I am not and never will be....Many better moves could've been made...and I would've made them...I don't have time now...but I would've taken Orakapo last year over Maybin in a heartbeat...yeah there's many other but I have to feed a crying baby...I'll be back to mention some of the moves I would've made....I will!

EXACTLY! Someone who gets it...Yes!
-
Wood may have a career ending injury or may never be the same, Pozinjury or whatever is out more than he plays so far, Mitchell has been a disappointment so far, I Hopes should't count but I hope to, but so far he's a bust, Leodis could become great and move on like Clements did as CB's demand a big buck in F/Agency......We're in trouble if this is the best of the Bills for the future! yikes!
-
Oh yeah...Byrd! Good one and I agree...but like other farm systems for the NFL....EACH TIME A PLAYER achieves a productive status they go to the highest bidder at FA time!...u say no?.....Jabari Greer, A. Winfield, Pat Williams, Nate Clements...Leonhard, I'll stop but that list is a lot longer.........Anyone want to add to it feel free! So what I'm saying is even the Byrd will fly away for FA.....

Gailey hasn't coached a game yet for the Bills, SpILLER Hasn't played a down, Moorman is a punter which is a bad sign if u make a case w/a punter! Which leaves u with F. Jackson who the Bills thought enough of to use their 1st pick in the NFL Draft on a RB...WHICH DOES'T seem like a vote of confidence to me, or anything I would base my optimism on if I were you! So tell me again exactly what is right? Aaron maybe Maybin I suppose when Modrak who is still here said no thank you to Bryan Orakapo DE who is awesome!!!! The Road not taken strikes again!!!!
-
You just topped me and my original post...lol...and I agree w/everything you have said. Look people, it's not that I wanted the past decade to work out as it has, but you have people out there practically denying it was that ugly! If it's been ugly what drastic changes have been made for us to believe that it's going to be any different? Has-been retread coaches from Georgia Techwho have been on their couches for a couple of seasons!, and coaches who have mostly advanced one coaching position like C. Modkins O Coordinator w/out any experience as a O/C ! At least Vav Pelt had some NFL experience. Oh, but Chan Gailey will make all the O Calls until he feels Modkins is ready! So we have an O/C Apprentice? and that should sit well with me? You have to like Chris Ellis DE right? K. Mitchell...just where has he been? Paul PozInjury you make me pozitive w/your team spirited lip service! Hardy has Hardly been on the field, C. Kelsay was released wasn't he, Schobel just sold his house, Lynch may not show? and if he does is that a good thing? One of the bloggers named 4 or 5 of our better players including Moorman! He is good granted, but if you have to make your point of optimism with the punter as part of your argument, then u have made my case! I would love to have u in court as the defense attorney!...lol I could go on..but it's unnecessary...right now high expectations are unwarranted regarding the Bills. Believing the Bills are on the right track is believing that you can build a castle without the right tools! I think we'll end up with a shoddy shed that leaks and we dress it up with a shiny new mailbox to portray hope!( SPILLER!). Last year we planted a tree (T.O. to sell some tickets...), but the tree didn't really take root as there wasn't enough nutrients in soil around it, so the tree has been re-planted somewhere else. Just a couple of quick analogies, but u get the point!! Please someone...give me legitimate reasons why we will win 8 games or more this year without sidestepping the question because I'd love to bill'eave this year as well, but I like to base my feelings on reality..rather than some idiot telling me to drink bleach....and then go on about Brian Moorman...who I like as well...but that's a sorry reason to bill'eave in the upcoming season.....What do u think?

Well with our well water we already add bleach prior to the system that we have that purifies our water...and our water is cleaner and more pure than municipal water or bottled water so I'm not as dillusional as you must be drinking your tainted water. 2011 Season you will get your wish more than likely as there probably won't be a season. Other than that what I stated is just the sad realities of the Bills. I am just a realist that won't put the blinders on just because I love the Bills. It is what it is! Until there is a change in philosophy beginning with ownership we will likely remain a bottom 10 team! If you feel differently, good for you..eternal optimism is a good quality even when the situation dictates the opposite emotion.

Isn't it ironic that we by passed Colt McCoy deep in the draft, but we take some unknown, inexperienced RB that Indy discarded named Colt Simpson. "No offense O.J."..... Wasn't there a free agent offensive tackle available not too long ago....Levi Jones or something like that? So instead we draft a small time QB in the 7th round Levi Brown..."No offense Jim".... Then didn't we just pick up a RB named Mendenhall? Well, yeah I know we did...but isn't the other one the one that matters? We picked up another unknown! I also know we picked up some hall of famers! Well actually their college players that went undrafted, but the Bills have high hopes for some of them. At least their optimistic! Yeah, but the names sure are iconic football names from the past: Destin Harris...."Darn not Franco" Sean Allen...... Drats not Marcus Antonio Coleman...Well not Monte Bell, Jones, Johnson (at least he's not Rob)... So after this big splash in free agency and the draft what are your feelings on how much we improved, regressed, or stayed the same???? To me, I like as Robert Frost put it "The Road not taken", but I like that road better than the road we took !!! It's also so ironic that the best player that this franchise has selected in the past five years is at a position that we didn't really need to improve on in contrast to severe needs at QB and OLT. Just remember, praise their selections if you want..but mark my work when we struggle this year...we're all going to say..boy they lost some close games...if we just had a better QB and better blocking for the QB we would've won 8 or 9 games at least. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that when it's all said and done and everyone has spoken their piece...and Donte predicts the playoffs again, and Chan Gailey talks about turning it around like the Dolphins and Jets did...We're still going to be 5 wins and 11 losses until we ADDRESS OUR NEEDS with big boy college players that played against top competition. This little tweener team of little guys from little colleges that can play more than one position including special teams like Spiller..is not what I want my team to be like....You don't see Pittsburgh or Baltimore get manhandled, and you see that quality teams like N.ENG and Indy have the skill positon guys which you need...The Brady's, Moss's, etc....Who do we really have at WR for sure besides Lee Evans?????? Parrish?? yeah right, Hardy? Hardly....Easley? It won't be Easy for the rook! Stevie (I wonder) Johnson? Not so far? Who??? Maybe, we should get the old but better than anything we have on our roster Marvin Harrison if he's not back with Indy! Core players?? Pozluzny...no Pozinjury is out more than in! Schoebel? Just sold his house! Sounds like that ship has sailed! Byrd (break...smile..2 more years GONE!) to highest bidder! u say no???? Hmmmm...Pat Williams, Nate Clements, Antwoine Winfield, Sam Cowhart, Jabari Greer, that Leonhart guy whose quite good!....etc.... It starts at the top..and as long as they hire coaches and staff on the cheap and avoid QB's in the first two rounds...they won't ever make it back to the playoffs! I see people predicting great things...that they are building towards..but it's all a facade. Even when they bring a player along like Peters, they repeatedly have shown that they are not willing to pay what it takes to keep him. That is a fact and history continually repeats itself. The top teams keep most of their superstars..Indy will retire a Colt and Brady will spend several years on the Patriots unless he gets plagued by injuries. Good teams keep their stars, the Bills like the Bisons is a good place to watch some young players develop and if they become a desirable player move on to a "real" NFL Franchise!!!! I hate to say all this, but it's the way it is and I'm a diehard supporter of da Bills regardless of the product they put on the field every year. But, I'm not going to call a pile of sh*t a pile of Gold !!!!!
-
No, seriously...who knows! One thing about this GM/Coaching tandem is that they are unpredictable so far! I can't figure out what their doing in free agency half the time...and I for sure couldn't figure out what the heck they are doing in the draft...so logic tells me that they will trade Lynch...which means that he's not going anywhere it's probably F. Jackson they'll trade...lmao, on that one! I'm back to who knows??? But, this new pickup from Indy doesn't have squat to do with their overall objectives as this RB has very few carries in his time in Indy and sounds more like a special teams specialist to me to date.
-
Unfortuantely, I think the Jets have an outstanding opportunity...but the Bengals? Nah...not even close...but Jets are a good pick!!!
-
The exact reason hasn't been disclosed, but if you were to rationalize some of the potential reasons these may be included: 1. Baltimore may feel that Gaither is worth more than just Lynch and want an additional pick in the draft with Lynch. 2. Baltimore may not want Lynch at all, especially after trading with us for our last featured back: McGahee 3. Gaither may have made it known that he will not extend his contract if Buffalo trades for him making a trade less desirable to Buffalo. 4. Baltimore may want to keep Gaither. 5. Gaither may have a real injury even though it's being portrayed as minor in nature. That could also lessen what Buffalo is willing to give up to get him. 6. Baltimore just switched him to right tackle recently and a right tackle does not have the same earning power as a LT. Buffalo may try to pay Gaither right tackle money which Gaither's agent would probably try to discourage a deal to the Bills in that event. 7. There may be other interested teams, and Baltimore may be holding out and stalling to see if they can up the ante and get a bit more for Gaither's services.. I am sure there are other scenarios as well....

Excellent ESPN Article on Ed Wang

Still wish we would've grabbed somebody in the 1st couple of rounds besides getting Wang in the 5th...
